Symptom:
Customers complain about engine problems or loud engine noise. The following fault memory entries

Cause:
Defective diodes in the ignition coil (for switch-on spark suppression) can cause engine problems.
Remedial
Action:
In the event of a customer complaint,check the cylinder liner for damage. In the event of replacing
the short block, install new coils at the same time. All ignition coils must be replaced in addition
to the damaged components, see  Workshop Manual '282020 Removing and installing ignition
coils'.

Modified ignition coils have been used during production since 05 February 2016.

The following points must be observed in relation to the part numbers listed below and the
relevant vehicle (depending on equipment):

Part number indexes will increase over time. Before performing repairs, cross reference with
PET (Porsche Spare Parts Catalog), for newer parts (higher index).
•
PET must be checked to determine if additional components are needed.
•
Particular/modified components, whose part numbers are listed accordingly, are required for
the remedial action.
