Condition
Customer states:
 The night vision system is sporadically inoperative.
 The message “Night vision system: fault. Please contact service” is displayed in the instrument cluster.
 After cycling the ignition, the functionality is restored.
Workshop findings:
 The wiring between the night vision system and the instrument cluster has been checked and found to be in
good condition.
One or more of the following DTC(s) may be sporadically stored in the instrument cluster control module, J285
(address word 0017) and/or the night vision system control module, J853 (address word 0084):
Instrument cluster control module:
 DTC B11E101 (Video line for night vision system).
Night vision system control module:
 DTC B11E201 (Video line 2 for night vision system).
Technical Background
Tolerances in the instrument cluster can cause it to erroneously detect a wiring problem.

the Elsa repair manual.
