SMOKE MACHINE NOT TO BE USED FOR
EMISSIONS TESTING WITH HEV/PHEV MODELS
This Pitstop provides information to properly test the evaporative emissions system in all Kia
2011MY~ Hybrid (HEV) and Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) model vehicles.
 IMPORTANT
A smoke machine should NEVER be used when testing the evaporative system in a
HEV/PHEV model vehicle.
Note: The electronic components, Natural Vacuum Leakage Detection (NVLD) and Evaporation
Leak Check Module (ELCM) can be damaged by the oil contained in the smoke machine.
Refer to the NVLD flow chart below and the procedures outlined in KGIS to properly check/test
the evaporative system for leaks on all HEV and PHEV model vehicles.
