Repair Bulletin: This repair bulletin provides instructions on addressing a possible customer concern regarding the operation of
Tesla vehicles. These instructions should only be performed by trained professionals.
This Service Document supersedes SB-23-20-002 R3, dated 4-Apr-23. This new revision, R4, adds front passenger
seat module connector port and resistive occupancy sensor routing direction. Each content change is marked by a
vertical line in the left margin. Discard the previous version and replace it with this one.
Condition
Certain Model 3 and Model Y vehicles may need a different Occupant Classification System (OCS) installed in the
front passenger seat before servicing its subcomponents.
NOTE: The performance of currently-installed OCS in the front passenger seat is not affected. This procedure is
required before service can be performed to the subcomponents of the front passenger seat.

Procedure
WARNING: Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) components can be hazardous if not handled properly
(refer to Airbag and Supplementary Restraint System (SRS) Precautions; Model 3, Model Y).
1. [Steps to determine front passenger airbag type]:
•
If the vehicle is equipped with a full suppression front passenger airbag (part number 1077823-00-F or
earlier), perform SB-23-20-001, “Update Front Passenger Airbag to Maintain Compatibility While
Servicing Front Passenger Seat”, and then continue this procedure.
•
If the vehicle is equipped with a safety vent front passenger airbag (part number 1077823-00-G or later),
perform this procedure only.

2. On the vehicle touchscreen, touch Controls (vehicle icon) > Software, and then scroll down to display the vehicle
firmware version.
•
If the vehicle is operating with firmware version 2023.2.11 or later, or 2022.45.12 (FSD Beta), continue
this procedure.
•
If the vehicle is operating with a firmware version earlier than 2023.2.11 or 2022.45.12 (FSD Beta),
update to version 2023.2.11 or later, or 2022.45.12 (FSD Beta) (refer to Service Manual procedure
00020003; Model 3, Model Y), and then continue this procedure.
3. Remove the passenger seat cushion foam (refer to Service Manual procedure 13070102; Model 3, Model Y).

4. Disconnect the front passenger seat OCS sandwich sensor connector (Figure 1).

5. Remove the push clips (x2) that attach the front passenger seat OCS sandwich sensor to the seat frame
(Figure 2).

6. Remove and discard the front passenger seat OCS sandwich sensor from the seat frame (Figures 3 and 4).

7. Replace the passenger seat harness with revised part number 1489060-93-F or later (refer to Service Manual
procedure 17101802; Model 3, Model Y). While installing the new seat harness:
•
Check the passenger seat module female connector (yellow port) to see if it was dislodged or misaligned
during the removal of the old seat harness (Figure 5). If the connector was dislodged or misaligned, press
firmly against the connector until it seats back into place.

8. Install the front passenger seat cushion foam (refer to Service Manual procedure 13070102; Model 3, Model Y).
While installing the foam:
•
Install a new RH front seat resistive occupancy sensor (part number 1099592-00-F or later), and then
route the sensor connector through the foam (Figure 6).

Install a new RH front seat resistive occupancy sensor box clip (part number 1130363-00-B or later)
(Figure 7).

9. Locally connect to the vehicle using Toolbox 3.0.
10. Click the Actions tab, search for “OCS”, and then select OCS1P delete Sandwich and calibrate routine
(Figure 8).

11. Click Run and allow the routine to complete. Select X at the top right of the window to exit once the routine is
complete (Figure 9).

12. Click the Actions tab, search for “Seat calibration”, and then select Right Seat Calibration (Figure 10).

13. Click Run and allow the routine to complete. Select X at the top right of the window to exit once the routine is
complete and “Pass” is displayed (Figure 11).

14. Disconnect the laptop from the vehicle.
