2009 PONTIAC G6

My 2009 Pontiac G6 was in park. Started my car with remote starter and opened door with it. When i got in the alarm went off about my power steering. It was frozen and couldn't turn the steering wheel. It was undriveable. Luckily this didn't happen while i was on the highway. I had aaa tow it to my mechanic. Failed two codes C0460 and C0545 for the steering torque input sensor and the steering wheel sensor. The problem is intermittent and can freeze up any time while driving. Most likely need a new steering column. Estimate to fix around $700. This is a know problem on these cars that gm fails to recognize. It's quite a serious safety hazard that can happen a moments notice.
STEERING,

2008 PONTIAC G6 with 56725.0 miles

"power steering" warning message in the driver information console displayed along with chime to alert of an event. Dealer inspected and found the dtc C0460 for steering wheel position sensor, physical inspection found a worn sensor. Dealer replaced steering column and recalibrated the pscm to the vehicle, cleared codes and rechecked operation. Dealer found no open recalls in the us for this vin, but did find reference to 2012 recall in canada for power steering failure covering this make/model/year with replacement of steering column as corrective action plus power steering motor control module for 2008 specific.
STEERING,

2008 SATURN AURA with 70231.0 miles

Power steering light would come on and off and then while driving ps went out. Had to stop and restart engine and then power steering worked. Did this for several weeks and then dealership said diagnostic codes were C0550 and C0460. Found internal malfunction at pscm. Replaced and never a problem until the same thing happened 2/7/2014 with 165,000 miles. Has to be a defective pscm. Needs to be recalled. Safety issue. Gm not good at recalling.

2007 CHEVROLET MALIBU with 50926.0 miles

STEERING,

2006 CHEVROLET MALIBU with 82035.0 miles

While driving power steering light came on and when my daughter arrived home, i checked for fluids and found out this power steering was electronic. Look on line and found out about the recalls but this vehicle was not on the list. Could not take a chance of my daughter getting into an accident, she uses this car for work and college. Following day drove car to dealer and paid 438. 69 to make the necessary repairs which consisted of replacing the steering module code C0460, replaced the steering position/ torque sensor. Service manager could not understand why this was not covered under the recall because he said it was the same part being replace on the other recall vehicles. Thank you for your concern.

2005 BUICK TERRAZA with 20600.0 miles

I have a 2005 Buick Terraza with 20,000 miles on it. Recently when the temp has got cold (30 degrees) the service stability and the service traction lights have came on. After i drive the van, the next time i start the van the lights are usually gone but then when i have been driving straight on a dry road at about 45 mph or so and hit a bump the van would pull, decelerate and swerve for a few seconds and the service stability light would come on. This has happened 4 times. I took it to the dealer and they found 5 codes but they say they can't help them figure what is wrong and all they can do is drive my van around until it does it again and hope they get a code that will help them. The codes were C0253/C0870/C0460/C0196/C0187. I found other people on line who had similar problems with these vehicles and printed suggestions for the dealer to check(steering wheel sensor and frayed wires). The dealer then found a green and blue wire from the forward engine harness routed from the ebcm underneath the inlet air box were completely rubbed through. They rubbed against the transmission bolt. Hopefully this will fix the problem. I guess you got to give some dealers help finding the problem with your vehicle. This is could be a problem with these type of gm vans and it could be very dangerous depending on what wires are frayed and when they malfunction the stable trak system could throw the van out of control which could lead to a deadly accident.

2004 CHEVROLET MALIBU with 5162.0 miles

Issues that arose with my 2004 Malibu july 7, 2004. These issues are still worrisome to me even though the problem has been addressed by the fort wayne kelley Chevrolet service people. Ea04018_cat. *ak i encountered several dangerous issues with the automobile. The first issue occurred at a stop sign. I was completely stopped at the stop sign when my steering wheel started to pulsate uncontrollably. Upon acceleration it seemed to subside until i tried to turn left and at that time i had no control over my steering. I was able to get into the correct lane finally and thankfully i was only 1 mile from my home. As i turned into my neighborhood the steering once again began to pulsate leaving me without steering power and i had to break upon someones yard in order not to hit a child playing in the street. This is a huge concern. I immediately called kelley Chevrolet. We were addressed courteously yet i was still very anxious about what had happened&especially considering my daughter had a Malibu just like ours. I have a granddaughter who rides in that car and i was very nervous about the fact that this may also happen to my daughter. Kelley did address the problem promptly and gave us information concerning document id# 1521111 2004 Chevrolet Malibu service information ( noisy steering column, lack of power steering assist, dtcs C0460 and C0545, steering wheel moves slightly by itself #04-02-35-009-may 24, 2004) my steering wheel was not just noisy, it was pulsating to the point i could hardly hold it. Also the issue of the steering wheel moves slightly by itself is also a huge understatement. My steering wheel could be moved by me, however, my wheels did not turn in the direction of my steering. This is something gm must address. Kelleys took care of the problem but i am extremely apprehensive about my car or ever getting another Chevrolet with electronic steering. Ea04018_cat
