When shifting out of park, Jeep will shift hard and lights around prnd are illuminated and error message "service park assist system" is displayed. When this happens, you have to put car back in park and turn it to the off position to reset. Sometimes this clears it,sometimes it doesn't. After about 4 times in a row, the check engine light comes on and stays on for days at a time. This issue also happens when the car is in drive and you are actually driving down the road. It has caused me to be rear ended once and almost rear ended many more times. Luckily when i was rear ended, we were in a parking lot and only traveling at a slow speed so there was no damage/injuries. This is beginning to happen on a daily basis and it is only a matter of time before someone is killed due to Jeep's denial there is a problem and refusal to fix the issue. I have taken my car into the dealer multiple times but they are unable to recreate the issue and therefore say there is no problem. An auto parts store was able to pull a code one time (U0404) but couldn't determine the meaning behind the code and couldn't tell me what to do to fix the problem. I have found through a prior google search that this issue has been reported before and that a prior recall was issued for this problem. Of course, my car and apparently everyone else's weren't part of the recall and are therefore still not repaired considering the part to fix the problem costs around $1,000 before labor charges! I hope someone can force Jeep to fix these vehicles before someone loses their life because of it!
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,

2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE with 56825.0 miles

Vehicle loses power at interstate speed. Incidents: 5-30-2007. Wife was driving vehicle on interstate. Vehicle just turned off after loosing power. Wife pulled to shoulder of road and put into park. Restarted engine. No 'check engine light". Took vehicle to dealership for system scan. Sonya rechtorovic at landmark dodge (770-968-4900)checked vehicle into repair. Received paperwork which says "customer states while driving on interstate, vehicle shuts off. No codes in system. All systems operating as designed. Test drove vehicle and could not duplicate concern." incidents have happened again on 7-1-2009, 7-4-2009 and on 7-6-2009. Lost power at interstate speed while driving. Engine light did come on, and i pulled to shoulder of road and waited a few minutes. Took vehicle to two different dealerships. "joe brooks" at douglas county dodge at 770-942-1102 and vic daniel at landmark dodge at 770-968-4900 or 678-251-2327. Both dealerships stated "out of warranty and would be $100 just to scan the system for errors". I took vehicle to autozone and had vehicle scanned for free. Received error code "U0404 code- invalid data received from gear shift control module". Seen recall d46 for 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee to reprogram pcm. I believe my 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo has this issue. Called chrysler at 1-800-853-1403 at 1045 am on 7-6-2009 and spoke with "dan thomas". Dan looked up my vin number and stated that "no recalls are for this vehicle and if a recall does come out, then a letter will be mailed to you".
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,

2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE with 36900.0 miles

I have been to the dealer 3 times for this issue. First it was my prnd lights would all light up at the same time and my acceleration would not work. Then my check engine light would come on and go off again after a few starts. Now the check engine light is on and the code is U0404 which i am told is the shifter/electronic control module. While searching this i have found hundreds of owners with the same problem, all right after their warranty ran out. I went to the dealer while still under warranty and it was not found now that i am 900 mil;es past warranty they know what it is. I feel if this many owners have the same problem it should be recalled. I completely lost acceleration while on the highway twice and was almost rear ended.

2007 JEEP COMMANDER 4X4 with 22972.0 miles

I lease a 2007 Jeep commander. I noticed, to start, that the engine would not accelerate at a low speed. At first it felt like my foot was not quite on the accelerator so i dismissed the first couple of incidences. More recently however, my vehicle will occasionally stop accelerating at about 15 miles per hour. With my foot fully on the accelerator, the vehicle will not go ( the engine is not stalled ). It definitely feels like the vehicle is shifting automatically into neutral when i try to accelerate. The engine light on my control panel illuminates. The problem has become worse. The vehicle will stop accelerating at higher speeds and the park, reverse, neutral, and drive symbols all illuminate on my control panel - suggesting that i am in all those positions. I took my commander in to the dealership to be checked on october 6, 2008 and they said absolutely nothing wrong. I do not understand this because my vehicle is blatantly not working properly - an accident waiting to happen if i cannot move my vehicle at an appropriate speed to cross intersections etc.. I have to put my hazards on and pull over when this happens, now on a daily basis. I will not drive it distances because i am afraid that it could shift out of gear on the highway which would be dangerous. I did take it to a local car store where they did a diagnostic scan and found the code U0404 that invalid data was received from the gear shifter. I do not know what to do now that i have a vehicle that chrysler says nothing is wrong with but does not work. I do think that this is clearly a dangerous problem to have.
POWER TRAIN,

2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE with 80200.0 miles

While accelerating the vehicle lost power and the prndl lights all illuminated. After a few seconds power resumed. This has happened several times and the check engine light has come on. We have been told its error code U0404 and the electronic shift module needs to be replaced. It appears this is a very common occurrence for this year vehicle. It is a safety concern because if it happened during high traffic times it could certainly cause an accident.

Problem started with vehicle losing power on acceleration from dead stop. It did that twice before the "check engine" light came on as i was pulling out into heavy traffic. Immediately took it to garage which determined code were U0404 (implausible data received from esm), P0607 (ecu internal performance) and B1A28 (ecm mismatch with skm). Dealers had two shifter/esm assemblies in stock. That tells me this is a common problem as i have read on the internet that it is. This vehicle is pampered and only driven about 5k per year, mostly when i got to our hunting camp up state. Repair cost $1,130.99. Chrysler needs to pony up with a recall and fix this issue without cost as well as reimburse those of us who have already paid to have the defect fixed. Someone could be injured or killed as a result of this defect.

The dashboard lights came on all at once. Than was fine continued driving and check engine light came on and tried to make it home. However never made it p,r,n,d all lit up and started loosing power. Was able to make it to side of road. Check engine light code was U0404 and now the gear shift control module needs to be replaced. However after looking over other complaints from Jeep owners i see this has been a problem on these vehicles. I think its time for a recall especially that it happens every 30,000 -40,000 miles. Unreal at the cost of repair. Nothing like a scam. Will never own a Jeep again..
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,

2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE with 98000.0 miles

Multiple times while driving my vehicle has suddenly lost power. I will be going 70 mph or 15 trying to accelerate and then it stalls out and won't accelerate. I will pull off to the side of the road and turn my car off and then back on and it will correct itself most of the time. I took my vehicle to a transmission place and they didn't know what it was. The conducted a transmission flush and replaced some electrical wiring and it seemed to help for about 4 months. Now just last friday (20 april 2012), i was trying to accelerate after pulling out into traffic and almost got broadsided because the car just wouldn't accelerate past 2.5 rpms and 10 mph. Luckily the car heading straight for me slowed down and i was able to get out of the way for on coming 55 mph traffic. I looked on numerous websites and an ungodly amount of Jeep owners have reported this same issue. I took my vehicle to the Jeep dealer yesterday (23 april 2012) and they said they had to replace the electronic shifter module. I was getting codes U0404 and U0103. It cost $1051.50 to fix. I checked on-line after, and that is what everyone else said that the Jeep mechanics would recommend even though it would just break again 3 months later. One man even noted that the mechanic said that they have changed over 1,000 of those in his shop alone. I feel that this is a major safety issue and should be recalled! Jeep obviously knows this is going on.
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING,

2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE with 50000.0 miles

I was not able to control the speed of my vehicle during acceleration. When i accelerated, the car would significantly decrease in speed almost as if it was running in low gear. It has happened at least 4 times since i purchased the car brand new. Today at 60,000 mi it happened twice. A few months ago i tried to merge onto the freeway and lost power which was very dangerous and i had to turn on the hazard light and quickly pull over to the shoulder. I noticed all of the lights [ p, r, n, d] on the dash board were on. The car seems to reset when i shift to park or turn the ignition off and then on. The problem happens intermittently. I believe that this could be a manufacture defect. I took the car to 2 authorized Jeep chrysler dealerships to get it checked out. One dealership told me that they've never heard of the problem, another one found a code U0404 but didn't know what it meant. I find this extremely dangerous and could be a manufacture defect. *tt
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,

2007 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE with 38000.0 miles

Vehicle lost power (engine rpm went to idle) for no apparent reason while turning onto a multi-lane hwy and accelerating. Power was restored and vehicle accelerated normally. Vehicle "check engine" light illuminated. This has continued to occur several times in the last month. "check engine" code U0404 was verified through Jeep is the "tcm" transmission control module.

The check engine light comes on. Had the code checked (U0404). Invalid data received from gear shift module. Took Jeep to dealer and they checked code ( it was stored ). They would not work on the Jeep because the code was not active. The check engine light with this code has come on a lot of times. I am concerned about the Jeep stalling while driving.

2006 JEEP COMMANDER with 96000.0 miles

My Jeep has been having issues where i will be driving and service park assist system comes on dash board and on the prnd boxes come around it and the car stales. If i try to go the car won't go but rpm go up. The only way i go is i to put it in park then back in drive many times i have to put hazard lights on so that i don't get rear ended. Sometimes when you go into drive it will jerk and then you will see the boxes around the prnd that's when i have to shift back into park wait for boxes to go off then drive. There is also orange light on dash that comes on. Took to repair shop and code was reading U0404. This problem is getting worse and doing it all the time while driving i am afraid to drive it because i have 6 month old baby and 4 year old in the car.

While merging onto the highway when i try to accelerate there is not power. There is boxes around all gears (prnd). The display flash "service park assist". Then check engine light comes on. Called chrysler said to take to dealer and find out what the repair will be. Dealer said it was a U0404 code invalid data received from gear shift control module and a P0700 code transmission control system. This module is $700 and chrysler said it was helping me out and doing me a favor by letting me just pay $200. I have found this exact problem mentioned on multiple Jeep forum sites. My parents have replaced the same part and my brother is having the same problems now. I've talked with chrysler asking why i should have to pay for a part that is malfunctioning in a unsafe manner and was told it hasn't been recalled yet.
POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION,

2005 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE with 78500.0 miles

My 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo (3.7 liter v6) has about 78,500 miles. In 2018 my Jeep had an engine service soon light incident. I had the obdii read by o'reilly auto parts for the failure codes. The codes downloaded were U0404 & P0700. I went to my mechanic and he stated, 'drive it for a while and it should go away', he was right - the failure code (dash light) went away. Now, feb. 7, 2020 my engine service light went on. Again i went to o'reilly auto part to have the obdii error codes read. Again, the error codes came up U0404 & P0700. I did some research (on the web) and found a youtube video that addressed these two exact failure codes. Please see the youtube video, web address, below that explains the failure and repair. Https://m.Youtube.Com/watch?V=yd71knuo2au this video clearly shows the reason for these two error codes. The shifting console printed circuit board (pcb) has allowed (over time) the transfer of material between the different drive selection points (drive, reverse, park) on the pcb to be short circuited (bridged) causing a false signal to the other control devices. This is not listed as a serviceable item by Jeep. As a result Jeep is responsible for this failure because they do not state that this is a service preventable failure. Thank you for considering my complaint.
