• Recall 101325 [USA]: Bearing and axle wear may affect handling and control of the motorcycle, increasing the risk of a crash.
  Bmw of north america, llc (bmw) is recalling certain model year 2007-2009 f 800 s and f 800 st motorcycles manufactured august 2006 through january 2009. Due to incorrect tolerances, the rear wheel drive bearing and rear axle may wear.
  bmw will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the wheel bearing, and if necessary, replace the bearing and rear axle, at no charge. The recall began on january 10, 2014. Owners may call bmw at 1-800-525-7417 or email bmw at [email protected].

• Recall 78751 [USA]: If this occurred, the steering damper could become stiff increasing the risk of a crash.
  Bmw is recalling 428 my 2007 f800 s, f800 st, r1200 r, k1200 s, k1200 r, k1200 r sport, and k1200 gt motorcycles. It is possible for the coating to separate from the inside face of the steering damper housing. If this happened, the coating could partially clog the oil bores within the damper.

• Recall 75959 [USA]: If this occurred, it is possible that a leak could develop in the tank. fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire.
  Bmw is recalling 1,980 my 2007-2008 f800 s and f800 st motorcycles. Due to the routing of the fuel tank breather hose, pressure equalization inside the fuel tank is possible only to a limited extent. Consequently, at high ambient temperatures, the fuel tank can deform. If this happened at the point where the fuel tank is shaped to provide clearance for the rear wheel, then, in combination with a large payload, the bottom of the tank could rub against the rear wheel.

• Recall 2017428 [Canada]: Lights and instruments
  Certain motorcycles with dealer installed accessory turn signals may not comply with the requirements of canada motor vehicle safety standard (cvmss) 108 - lighting system and retroreflective devices. The size of the lens on the accessory turn signals may be too small, and therefore would not meet the requirements of the standard. This could reduce vehicle conspicuity to following and approaching road users, and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will replace the accessory turn signals with factory indicators that meet the requirements of the standard.

• Recall 2013380 [Canada]: Powertrain
  On certain motorcycles, the rear wheel bearing could wear abnormally, which would cause play in the rear wheel assembly. This could be noticed though an abnormal noise or harshness during riding. In some cases, rear wheel speed could be reduced at low speeds while coasting (when clutch is depressed), potentially affecting vehicle handling and increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will inspect rear wheel bearings and replace with an updated design if necessary.

• Recall 2008084 [Canada]: Fuel supply
  On certain motorcycles, the fuel tank breather hose may have been installed incorrectly, causing it to be pinched between the frame and other neighboring components. In high ambient temperatures, the pressure inside the fuel tank could build-up, resulting in the bulging of the tank near the rear tire. Severe suspension compression, with a high payload, can cause the bottom of the tank to rub against the rear wheel, potentially resulting in a fuel leak. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire. Also, the rear wheel could lose traction as a result of fuel spillage, which could cause a vehicle crash with personal injuries or death. Correction: dealers will reroute the fuel breather.

• Recall 2007218 [Canada]: Engine
  On certain motorcycles, the spark plugs may have been damaged during vehicle assembly. The insulator on the spark plug could break off and come into contact with the electrode, which could impede engine performance. If the electrode breaks in the course of a lengthy trip with high engine loads, the symptoms may not be immediately perceptible. However, engine damage can result if the rider attempts to continue the journey. Engine damage could result in lost propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the rider's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: dealers will replace the spark plugs.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 bmw f 800 st. While operating the motorcycle at various speeds, the rear wheel would wobble and vibrate, which made the rear end very unstable. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer (max bmw motorcycles, 845 hoosick st, troy ny) were notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the cycle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 13v549000 (wheels). The contact indicated that the cycle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 13,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 bmw f800 st. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, he noticed a chirping sound coming from the rear. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The technician stated the rear wheel bearing would have to be replaced as well as the rear axle sustained damage due to the rear bearing failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of failure. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 18,000.

The plastic mounting plate holding the fuel pump and fuel gauge sending unit developed a hairline crack. This crack allowed fuel to escape from the tank uncontrolled, which could cause a fire. The motorcycle was parked in the garage, where a gas water heater nearby could have ignited the fumes. This crack was not caused by any contact or pressure from any other component of the motorcycle as it is protected beneath the seat and a substantial recess in the fuel tank. The local dealership admitted that they replace as many as two of these cracked mounting plates per month. This condition was not found on any recall notification that we are aware of. Unfortunately, this mounting plate is not available separately, as it is a component assembly of the fuel pump and sending unit, costing nearly $1000 to replace. *tr

During commuting all lights off, no turn, no stop lights, the bmw canbus switch off computer, speedometr, tachometr and abs stop working. Battery supply/feed only engine, after few minutes engine stops. Burnt smoke and odor come from alternator. *tr

During use last weekend i noticed the drive belt riding abnormally on the rear drive pulley. I disassembled the rear drive on the motorcycle today and found the bearings and rear wheel support shaft in need of complete replacement. Investigation on the web readily reveals dozens of threads on this subject, with results of failures including complete wheel lockup at highway speed. Simply do a search using "bmw f800 bearing failure" and primary results encountered will be for the rear wheel bearings - several pages of them. The rear support axle was redesigned with new shipments in mid 2009, however, bmw designates this as an "improvement" not a correction of defect. These failures are almost all on pre 2009 models and generally occur at low mileage such as this machine. Failure of this component can readily cause a complete lockup of the rear wheel as reported by several riders, resulting in serious injury or death. Bmw refuses to provide parts or labor for corrective measures, nor admit defect. They continuously blame the owners for improper washing procedures and have refused repairs on machines which have not had their annual maintenance inspections performed at authorized dealers. Removed parts are being retained in case evaluation is necessary at a later date. *tr

The rear wheel bearing seized causing a catastrophic wheel separation from the pulley and belt drive. I was told by bmw motorcycles of escondido, ca that the insides appeared to have "welded together" with the bearing and shaft "rusting together." i was told that this had never been an issue with other bikes that they have seen. However, numerous online forums indicate that this is a widely known issue. *tr

Bmw f800st coming off road speed limit 65 mph down ramp slow down to 30 mph bike stalls restart 3 time stall each time park bike ok after 10 min. Happens again next day going around turn stall repeatedly unit bike is park this problem has been reported on by others yet no recall does someone have to get killed first like me. *tr

My 2007 bmw f800st motorcycle's engine is cutting out while the bike is in motion. I have experienced this at speeds as low as 5mph and as great as 60mph. The problem generally occurs when down shifting or completely closing the throttle after the engine temperature is at temperature and has been ridden at high throttle settings. I generally begin experiencing problems after riding between 50-85 miles. Then my engine will stall unpredictably for the remainder of the time i ride that day. This is particularly dangerous when approaching corners, stop signs, or anytime slowing down is required. I have been experiencing this problem for over 6 months now. This is a known problem on owner's forums online and a few people have captured the occurrence on video on youtube. Links below. I think this is a serious safety risk and of the four bmw dealers i have gone to, they all say that my bike is completely fine, it has all the latest updates and recalls and that bmw has not put out anything about this being a known problem. This issue affects bmw f800s, st and gs bikes from 2007-10, since they are all basically the same bike. Please read the forum posts. They are the same basic story over and over.
