  Vehicle description: passenger vehicles built with 3.5l engines. The fuel injection delivery system can leak fuel from some of the sealing o-rings or from hair line cracks in the thermoset fuel injection rail.
  dealers will replace the fuel rail o-rings and reinforce the outlet (passenger) side fuel rail. Vehicles showing fuel leakage on the outlet fuel rail must have the outlet rail replaced which includes changing the upper and lower injector o-rings. However, if a vehicle is leaking fuel from the o-rings or from a cracked fuel line, the vehicle should be taken into a dealer to have this repaired as soon as possible.

  On certain vehicles, the lower control arm attaching brackets may crack due to fatigue and cause the lower control arm to separate from the engine cradle. If this occurs, the transmission half-shaft may pull out of the transaxle and result in a loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a motor vehicle accident. Correction: engine cradle will be reinforced at the point of attachment to the lower control arm.

  These vehicles do not comply with c.M.V.S.S. 210.1 - tether anchorages for child restraints. No provision for tether anchorage at outboard seating positions. Correction: both outboard tether anchorage locations will be reworked to meet the requirements of the standard.

• Fuel rail, brake fluid, chassis investigation as of 20041013

  On september 5, 2004, mr. Robert galenty of iselin, nj, petitioned the agency to conduct defect investigations of certain model year (my) 1993-1997 vehicles produced by daimlerchrysler corporation.His petition identified three issues of concern: 1) fuel leaking from the fuel injector rails; 2) brake fluid contamination resulting in brake failure; and 3) susceptibility of the vehicle frame to damage while the vehicle is being towed.Mr. Galanty alleged that his 1996 dodge intrepid had each of these three problems.Concerning fuel rail leakage, daimlerchrysler commenced a recall (98v-184) of approximately 722,600 vehicles to address engine fuel rail leaks that could lead to a fire, including those vehicles cited in the petition and the petitioners 1996 dodge intrepid.On october 7, 1998, nhtsa opened a recall query investigation (rq98-018) to evaluate the adequacy of the recall remedy.That investigation was closed on july 8, 2002 without requiring further action by daimlerchrysler.Very recently, on june 9, 2004, nhtsa denied a petition (rp04-001) to reopen rq98-018 after finding that there was no new information that would indicate any basis for reopening it.This is still the current position of nhtsa on this issue.Concerning brake fluid contamination and frame alignment, a review of nhtsas database shows no other complaints on either one of these issues on the vehicles cited in the petition.

• Steering column separation investigation as of 20030507

  Mr. Larry a. Sackey submitted a petition to the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) by letter dated april 18, 2003, requesting that nhtsafurther investigate the "defective collapsible steering shaft system" on 1987-1995 vehicles manufactured by the daimlerchrysler corporation.In part because of 49 cfr § 30120(g), nhtsa has decided to limit the scope of the petition vehicles to 1993-1995 models, excluding the 1993 jeep grand cherokee and 1994-1995 dodge ram series trucks that were recalled (93v210 & 96v230) for steering column failure.If the analysis of these vehicles had identified a potential problem, the scope could have been expanded in an investigation.A review of odis data base shows no recent complaints and a lack of a complaint trend concerning the subject issue on the subject vehicles as a whole or by individual models.Therefore, the petition is denied.For details, see federal register notice volume 68, no. 130, july 8, 2003.

  Nitrile rubber seals used in the fuel rail assemblies of the subject vehicles at the supply, return, and crossover tube fittings, and at the pressure regulator fail, resulting in fuel leakage in the engine compartment.Also, the outlet (right) fuel rail may leak from cracks at certain mold gates in the thermoset rail material.Chrysler will recall the subject vehicles and stated that it intends to replace the o-rings with fluorocarbon o-ring having greater heat resistance capability and attach reinforcements to the rail in the areas where the cracking concern has been known to occur most frequently.Rails that are already cracked will be replaced by new, reinforced rails.

I recently bought this vehicle (october 2016) from the original owner who had it up until now. We smelled gas coming in the vents when idling and warming up. We saw vapors coming out from the hood and the strong gas smell was clearly injector leaking somewhere on the engine and coming into the cab. We took it to a local auto dealer and they agreed immediately what the problem is and explain it was faulty fuel line by chrysler.

My car had a recall on it, and when i called the manufacturer and asked them to look up my vin number to see if my car had been properly serviced, they told me that the vin i provided did not have a recall on it. I took it as if they were saying the recall had been properly handled, but when questioned further i was told that my specific car did not have a recall at all. I explained to them that i had seen where the 95 chrysler new yorker had a fuel system recall. They proceeded to tell me that i was correct but my car did not qualify for that recall. I do not understand and would like further explanation. *tr

Dt*: the contact stated there is a nhtsa recall campaign 99v215000 regarding the suspension. This vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall, but it is not included in the recall due to the vin. The vehicle has not been repaired.*ak

While driving, a fuel odor smell would come in from the vents. The consumer took the vehicle to the mechanic. The mechanic informed the consumer that the fuel rail had a crack inside and needed to be replaced. Please fill in additional. *jb

The headlights assembly doesn't adjust up far enough to project the lights illumination fully. The light doesn't illuminate the road bright enough to see to driver. High beams have to be engaged. Dealership indicated to correct this problem they would have to installed headlights from the 1996/1997 model. Technical service bulletin 08-033-95a was issued on this problem. *ak *nm

While traveling at normal speed, the driver applied the brakes and the front end of the vehicle vibrated out of control. The steering was very loose. *jb

Consumer states that while driving had no brakes had vehicle serviced. The air conditioner water drains onto the brake lines which over a period of time causes the lines to rust and result in fuel leak. Mr

Bushing worn out causing the steering to be loose and resulting in tire wear. Nlm

While driving, could notice change of tune in the engine, consumer took vehicle to the dealer and they discovered that the timing belt was coming apart.*ak *jb

Vehicle was going 20-30mph and consumer heard a bang, and started losing control of vehicle. While losing control, vehicle flipped over a few times, landing upside. Tires were purchased 7-3-2001, size P22560r16.*ak consumer feels that a blowout was the reason for the accident, consumer was injured in accident, firestone, dot number eja6clh3600, p225/60r16. *slc

Both inner tie rod bushings and attached rods had to be replaced, the right side had failed and fallen out(rubber bushing), the left side bushing was fractured and worn out causing play in the right side wheel steering, both items were replaced and wheel alignment done.

While backing out of a parking place the two bolts that hold the short rack to the frame sheered off at the frame causing complete loss of steering. The new bolts obtained from chrysler were gold in color instead of black like the originals which indicated to my mechanic that the new ones had a different heat treating process. I have the bolts and pieces plus pictures of same and will provide either upon request. Had i not been in a parking lot this could have been a desaster. While i have received other recall notices for this car i never received one on this.

Steering failure because bolts have sheared off. Consumer stated that tie rods has been replaced twice prior to this incident. *ak

Steering noise when turning wheel left to right, bushings are bad and rack and pinion needs replaceing according to mechanic said such wear is unusually for car with such low miles - dealer, maker aware of problem said it will not do anything unless a recall is forced on them - lose of steering is a safety issue

Both tie rod ends at steering gear box replaced. Failure due to wear of rubber bushings part no. 501825aa. This should be considered a dangerous situation which could lead to accidents , especially at highway speeds. Reported failures believed to be more numerous than chrysler will admit. See oid; id 8449555 8/1/99, id 716813 1999, id 852875 10/29/99, id 715247 at 59,000 miles 9/1/99. Cost to repair $589.00.

Consumer was at a gasoline station. As he pulled out heard a noise, and lost control. There wasn't any steering. Steering wheel was going around in circle. Dealership was notified, there were no injuries. *ak the loss of control of the vehicle was caused by snapping in half of the bolt that hold the steering rack together. This vehicle had been involved in accident before this customer purchased it. *yh

The evaporator core failed causing leakage into the vehicle. *mjs

Consumer contacted dealer in reference to nhtsa recall 98v184000/ manufacturer's recall 790/ fuel injection system leak. Repair delayed 5 weeks due to unavailable parts. *ak *ml

Componant failure was the two bolts that secure tie rods to rack and pinion steering sheared off, both at the same length. This happened while backing out of a parking space. In turn, both tie rods, one to each wheel became totally disabled and all steering was lost. Removed the rack and pinion and foind no defects with operation. Replaced with a remanufactured one with new bolts from the dealer. Cause remains undetermined. *ak

Had new tires put on. Noticed that the front tires were wearing out when making a right hand turn. The wheels would whistle, and when coming down a hill and applying brakes,the front wheels shimmied very badly, especially when traveling at 45mph. Contacted the dealer, dealer inspected vehicle, and told consumer that bushings/tie rods and ball joints wore out *ak

Both tie rod ends at steering gear box had to be replaced. Car would wonder all over road.. Asked dealer why they failed at 59000 miles, just a wear point.. I've had to many other cars and trucks and never had a tie rod problem and this car has both fail at the same time....

When traveling at any speed the front end shakes, causing poor control. Consumer has contacted the dealer, dealer has replaced tie rod end. Please provide any further details. Pe 99-044. *ak

While driving at 20 mph there was some popping noise coming from the engine and the consumer saw fumes coming from under the hood. *ak

Had to replace transmission at a cost of $1,466.00. Car has 60,600 miles on it and it's only 4 years old!

Vehicle recall repair not completed due to lack of parts. Mjs (98v-184).

Consumer backed out of driveway with snow on the ground, when applying brakes vehicle began to stop, vibrated and tumping noise was heard. Then vehicle kept rolling. Dealership says there was nothing wrong with brakes. *ak

Shudder when shifting from 1st-2nd and 3rd-4th gears, took car to mechanic, solution is to rebuild transmission, numerous technical bulletins from chrysler for model years of 94,95,96, and 97 for similar problems. *ak

I have had to replace the head gasket twice in 5 years. Since the last replacement less than 2 years. *ak

Must jiggle and push back gear selector roughly in order to remove key from ignition while in park

Vehicle when in park would make a hard jerk. From park to reverse it would not go. Also, it would not go into second gear at all. Replaced an inner seal that was leaking, and dealer was contacted. Warranty expired and vehicle has not been repaired. *ak

Had accident while going at approximately 35 mph, and driver's side air bag did not deploy, but passenger's side air bag did. *ak

While running gas is runs out into the fuel injectors. Also, when applying the brakes front end of the vehicle vibrates. Tires on the vehicle were damaged. Dealer contacted, did not provide any help. *ak.Et.

Battery failed.

Abs brake failure, when brakes were applied pedal went to the floor , loss of effectiveness, in for repair, repaired master cylinder/ abs unit replacement. *ak

When applying the brakes the brake pedal has to be pressed almost to the floor before the vehicle will stop. Also, abs light comes on intermittently. When it does the defroster comes on automatically. *ak

Consumer states that vehicle was taken in for a gas smell in the cab. Took vehicle to dealer, and dealer said there was a hairline break in the fuel rail. Cause unknown. *ak
