  Vci emergency vehicle specialists (vci) is recalling certain 2017-2018 ford f-550, 2014 e-350 and e-450, 2015 f-250 and f-450, 2016 e-450, 2017 e-350, f-450 and e-450, 2018 f-350, 2010 e-450, 2005-2006 e-450, 2009 e-450 and chevrolet c4500-based type i and type iii ambulances equipped with asa electronics voyager monitors used to display the back-up camera image. The monitors may unexpectedly revert back to the factory default settings which may cause the camera image to be reversed.

  Taylor made ambulances is recalling certain 2017-2018 ford e-350, f-450, e-450, f-550, and gmc g3500-based ambulances equipped with whelen brake lights. Depending on the specific wiring of the vehicle, these brake lights may illuminate when the brake pedal has not been pressed.

• Recall 126911 [USA]: When the heater is plugged in, prolonged corrosion could cause a resistive short, increasing the risk of overheated or melted wiring which can increase the risk of a fire.
  Ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain 2015-2019 ford f-150 and 2017-2019 ford f-250 super duty, f-350 super duty, f-450 super duty, and f-550 super duty pick-up trucks equipped with an engine block heater. Water and contaminants may get into the block heater cable's splice connector causing corrosion and damage.

• Recall 120877 [USA]: If the doors unlatch and open in a side impact collision, the occupants have an increased risk of injury.
  Ford motor company (ford) is recalling certain 2015-2017 f-150, and 2017 f-250, f-350, f-450, and f-550 vehicles originally produced with black or body colored exterior door handles that may have been subsequently equipped with a chrome exterior door handle cover accessory kit purchased from a ford dealer. These accessory door handle covers may cause the doors to unlatch in a side impact collision. As such, these vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 206, "door locks and door retention components."

These accessories may cause the door handles to fail to conform to the inertial load requirements of the standard. A door handle fitted with a chrome cover could unlatch due to inertial loads during a side impact crash if the door were unlocked, which would increase the risk of injury. • Recall 2017502 [Canada]: Structure
  On certain vehicles, door latch shielding may not be sufficient. As a result, water could enter into the side door latch and freeze, causing the latch mechanism to bind after opening. In addition, latch actuation cables may have been bent or kinked during installation, and could result in latch binding. A frozen door latch, or bent or kinked actuation cable may result in a door that will not open or will not close. If a latch does not fully engage the door striker, there is a potential for a door to open while the vehicle is in motion, which could increase the risk of injury. Correction: dealers will install water shields over the door latches and the door latch actuation cables will be inspected and repaired if needed.

• Recall 2017182 [Canada]: Powertrain
  Certain vehicles equipped with a 6.8l gasoline engine, 4x4 drive, 205” wheel base and 4.88 axle ratio may experience a driveline vibration caused by a powertrain resonance at speeds above 120 km/h. Continued operation of a vehicle at these speeds could result in a resonance frequency that may fracture transmission and/or driveline components. If the transmission and or driveline components were to fracture, it could result in a loss of motive power while the vehicle is in motion, or unintended vehicle movement in park if the parking brake is not applied, which would increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the two-piece driveshaft with a new three-piece driveshaft and two center bearing brackets.

• Power tailgate opens unintended investigation # RQ21001

  On october 12, 2018, the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) opened preliminary evaluation (pe18-011) to investigate allegations of unintended power tailgates opening while driving in ford super duty trucks. Unintended tailgate openings while driving may result in loss of unrestrained cargo and increase the risk of a crash.Analysis of data provided by ford in response to pe18-011 showed high failure rates in the subject vehicles when compared to peer vehicles. Consequently, ford conducted a recall (19v-864) to remedy all subject vehicles equipped with an automated tailgate. • Power tailgate release systems investigation # RQ21001

  In january 2021, the office of defects investigation (odi) opened a recall query (rq21-001) to assess allegations of post-recall remedy uncommanded tailgate openings in model year (my) 2017-2019 f-250/350/450 ford trucks. Besides the recall remedy launched in january 2020, ford also implemented a production update in november 2019.  at the time of the rq opening, odi had received eleven (11) vehicle owner questionnaires (voqs). Odi sent an information request (ir) to ford in february 2021. In numerous meetings after receiving their ir response, ford highlighted the drop in claims since the recall and production update and communicated how they were unable to verify the owners’ complaints or replicate the concern. Despite this, ford began developing ways to prevent uncommanded tailgate openings from various human, mechanical or electrical causes. Based on testing, ford issued a customer satisfaction program, 21m05-s1/s2/s3, to further address the potential of unintended tailgate openings. This work was applied to vehicles being produced as of december 20, 2021.  the program began for already delivered vehicles on july 22, 2022. The covered models include 2017-2022 f-250, 350, 450, 550, 650 and 750 super duty and 2020-2022 f-600 super duty trucks. Odi has received 39 voqs between february 24, 2020, and december 15, 2023, alleging uncommanded tailgate openings.  in a detailed analysis, none of the vehicles in the voqs were found to have received the customer satisfaction update. Since odi has not received any complaints of post-customer satisfaction program tailgate openings, this office is closing this recall query. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist. • Power tailgate opens unintended investigation # PE18011

  By letter dated december 4, 2019, ford motor company (ford) notified the office of defects investigation (odi) of a safety defect that may exist in model years (my) 2017 through 2019 ford super duty f-250, f-350, f-450 vehicles equipped with an electric tailgate. Following the receipt of five consumer complaints alleging unintended tailgate opening without vehicle operator knowledge, while the vehicles were in motion, nhtsa opened this investigation to assess the manufacturers data including warranty claims, field reports, design changes, etc.In vehicles equipped with an electric tailgate, water can enter the electrical wiring system and may cause a short circuit resulting in the unintended activation and release of the tailgate latch. This could allow unintended opening of the tailgate while the vehicle is in motion.Analysis of the data provided by ford found that the frequency of a tailgate opening unintended was high in vehicles equipped with electric tailgates. Unintended tailgate opening without vehicle operator knowledge may result in loss of unrestrained cargo, increasing the risk of a crash. In response to this investigation, ford decided to conduct recall 19v-864.Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a ford dealer to modify the tailgate/frame wiring harnesses by adding jumper pigtails to isolate the tailgate release control circuits, and will install a new tailgate handle release switch. With recall action 19v-864 taken by ford motor company this investigation is closed. Further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist on other model or my vehicles outside of the recall scope. Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-450. The contact stated that while driving there was a loud crunching sound and became aware that the tailgate had fallen onto the trailer. The vehicle was taken to shawnee mission ford (11501 shawnee mission pkwy, shawnee, ks 66203) where they informed the contact that a previous recall repair was performed correctly. The vehicle was then taken to thoroughbred ford (8501 n. Boardwalk ave, kansas city, mo 64154) where the contact was informed that the dent was being repaired and the part was being repainted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided the contact a claim number. The approximate failure mileage was 69,000.

The contact owns a 2017 ford f-450. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the tailgate fell independently causing damage to the trim of the tailgate. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer to be diagnosed however, the mechanic found nothing that needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was relating the failure to nhtsa campaign number: 19v864000 (latches/locks/linkages). The manufacturer had been informed of the failure and referred the contact to the nhtsa for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.

Was passing by the truck the alarm was going off, upon opening the door there was water pouring out of the door, then i noticed the front dash was soaking wet. The console had several inches of water in it. The truck was flatbedded to columbia ford, found sunroof was installed improperly from ford factory. Truck has 2" of water in console, dripping from headliner and switches, and floor. Seats are soaked. The truck is currently at ford dealership they are telling me they cannot remove the seats or the floor mats because ford will not reimburse them to do the job. Now my truck has been exposed to major water for 10 days and is still not being fixed. No one is touching the water that remains in the console, floor or seats. Ford has been contacted directly and they have denied replacement of this vehicle. This truck only has 23,000 miles on it and was in extremely good condlition prior to this happening. We have been going to the dealership everyday to see if this truck is drying out. We just removed the sill plate to expose wires that are completely underwater. And there is still 1" of water in the floor of the truck. The service mngr quoted to me there will be no way he could guarantee that this truck will not mold and will not have electrical issues in the future. They are not taking out anything out of the truck, seats, floor liner ... Nothing. We have a case number with ford, they are the ones that recommended that we contact your company for assistance because ford has denied the claim for replacement of this vehicle. I feel that this truck is going to mold due to the water and is an electrical (fire) hazard due to the water in the switches corroding and for the length of time of exposure. There was water pouring out of the switches in the ceiling that control the sunroof into the console and down the front dash. There is discoloration already started.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-450. While driving 10 mph and hauling a trailer, the contact attempted to make a hard right turn when, without warning, the tailgate disengaged and fell to the ground. The tailgate was destroyed. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 55,700.

Tailgate to truck has opened 3 times while driving between september and november 2019. I am not sure at the exact time and conditions that the tailgate opened but weather was raining mid-day on two of the occasions, the third was early morning. One of the times the tailgate opened was while towing a cargo trailer which resulted in damage to the top of the tailgate as it fell on the trailer tongue jack handle. As a newly retired navy pilot i 'pre-flight' my truck and trailer before every drive checking safety chains, locks, tires and lights.

I have a 2017 ford super duty f450 platinum. Multiple time the tailgate has dropped o its own while im driving the truck. Keys are resting in console not touching release button and drops on its own. Have checked and doubled checked closing firmly. Still opens intermittently. I have had multiple witnesses watch it happen. It has now happened when towing and destroyed the tailgate and could of caused and accident.

Brought my truck into the ford dealership because the door was not latching closed at all. The truck is still under warranty and has less than 20k miles. Later that day the dealership called and told me the truck was fixed and ready to be picked up. Less than 48 hours later the latch again would not work. I drove the truck back to the dealership while holding the door closed with one hand so it wouldn't fly open in traffic. They again said it would be fixed and they told me i was giving them 'attitude' because i was upset that it didn't get fixed the first time. Once i got home i called another dealership and they informed me that there was actually a recall for this exact issue. My biggest gripe is that the first dealership never informed me of a known safety issue with my vehicle after bringing it in two times within a three day period. I found it to be alarming that they would send me back out on the road without fixing or even informing me about this potential hazard recall.

Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-450. While driving at highway speeds, the vehicle shook abnormally with a strong vibration. The contact slowly decelerated as the driveshaft fractured outward from the left to the right side. Also, the transmission housing became cracked and the vehicle was unable to be driven. The vehicle was towed to hixson ford of monroe (6300 frontage rd, monroe, la 71202, (318) 388-3300) and the contact was informed that the warranty would not cover the repair because the vehicle had been modified. The dealer did not provide a specific diagnosis to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was then towed to jps ford (224 gap farms road, arcadia, la 71001, (318) 263-2084) where it was diagnosed that the transfer case needed to be replaced and a new drive line needed to be installed. The manufacturer and hixson ford indicated that the vehicle was excluded from manufacturer recall number: 17s108 concerning the exclusion of the 450 and 550 models, although the contact experienced the same failures related to the recall. The manufacturer refused to provide repair assistance and the vehicle was repaired by jps ford. The failure mileage was not available.
