If this occurs, the casting could fracture, allowing the corner of the vehicle to drop, and the lower control arm could contact the inside of the rear wheel.

  Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. The seat belt retractor may have a pin shaft in the switchable elr/alr mechanism that is incorrectly formed. In some circumstances, the switching mechanism could become nonfunctional, preventing the seat belt webbing from being extracted from the retractor. It is also possible that malfunction of the mechanism could prevent the belt from being switched into the alr mode. The elr mechanism is not affected by this condition.

  On certain mustang svt vehicles, when operated in severe driving cycles such as frequent drag race type standing start acceleration, the ball joint in the rear suspension knuckle where the lower control arm attaches may be displaced longitudinally out of its installed position. If this occurs, the stress levels in the knuckle casting will increase and the casting may fracture. The corner of the vehicle will then drop and the lower control arm may contact the inside of the wheel, possibly affecting directional control. Correction: dealers will install a revised rear suspension knuckle assembly with positive retention of the ball joint.

I was making a normal order delivery drop off going off my gps i came to a narrow road where no signs of a dip ahead. Came to a dip ahead that you couldn't tell it was a dip and i wasn't going no more than 11 to13 miles when i was coming over it and my airbags busted out of my steering wheel hitting my hand and my arm leaving burn marks. I couldn't stay on the road so i waited 30 mins before i drove slowly back to my house cause then my tire started going low. *tr

As many have said the pass. Side seat belt is jammed up, cannot be used. Even if you spend rime and completely straighten every thing out it works maybe once and jams up again. The complaints are legit. This car has 80,134 miles on it.

Air bag non deployment!!!

My car was parked in a parking lot. My friend took off his seat belt and as it was retracting, it locked. I tried to pull on it to see if it would unlock and it will not budge one bit. It is locked about half ways.

My 2000 mustang gt overheated while i was driving back home, on a ten mile journey a couple days ago. Until this incident, my mustang had never overheated. I bought the car last sept. I used hose water at gas station to cool it first on hood then once my engine looked cooler, i filled the radiator (thinking we'd flush the cooling system when i got it home) water emptied as fast as i poured it in, from intake manifold behind what looks like the thermostat housing. My car is my only transportation. Now i'm not sure what to do. Because i used all my money to buy this car. I can not afford to fix this. My situation appears identical to several on your site, such as this one i just copied from one of the complaints posted:oct 08, 2013 - lexington, sc - engine and engine cooling while driving vehicle, engine began to overheat. Steam rolled from under the hood. Discovered crack in manifold where it connects to thermostat housing. Coolant dripping on the engine; i do not know if internal components are damaged.

Is a big problem shifting in a gear after in first gear starts to sputter and shake believe it's the transmission manual 5-speed also engine overheating and knocking sounds vibrations coming from engine compartment brakes have always been shaky even if applied slowly and softly

The car in front of me came to the stop and so did i but as i hit my brake something blew up in my face and made me put my arms up and i lost visibility. The weird part is they went off at a rolling stop under 3 mph .Also last week my car brake switch almost started an electrical fire.

I have purchased a used 2000 ford mustang and to make a long story short the transmission will not go into gear unless i rev the rpms up very high and i am interested in keeping this vehicle so i looked on line and found this is a very common problem with this car, i have went from site to site, i don't mind paying for the repair if need be, but this is dangerous, i don't want to injury myself or anyone else. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the oil filter adapter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. Vehicle was parked and turned off. Fire started in engine compartment. Witnesses said it sounded like the car was trying to start itself. Total loss. Damage was worst on the passenger side of the engine compartment centered in the area in front of the wheel. Ford will not honor recall for my vehicle. They are claiming that my vehicle isn't on the recall despite the fact that my car contains the same part that has been recalled. *tr

Driving down the road at about 45 miles pr hr. The car started banging. I slowed down the noise wasn't as loud. I pulled the car off the road, cut the car off, it wouldn't crank back. The mechanic said they didn't understand since the motor was clean inside and out. I didn't have any service light come on. I have had to replace the motor. *tr

Filler neck tube leaking during fuel fillup. Filler tube seal cracked in half. Upon inspection of rust damage to filler tube, the rust was so bad that the tube literally crumbled in half. *tr

While filing my car with gas, drops of gas were dripping onto the concrete. I looked under my car and the fuel tank filler tube and gas tank gasket are leaking fuel directly onto my exhaust pipe. Had my exhaust been extremely hot, my car would have caught fire and exploded. Please recall this. *tr

Fuel filler neck leaks. This occurs directly over the hot exhaust pipe of the vehicle. The gasoline drips directly on the exhaust pipe under the bend. And next to the gas tank. This is a very dangerous situation as i had a long way to go home and didn't have any water to wash the hot pipes of fuel. The gas continued to drip on the pipe most of the way home. My kids could have been in the back seat if the car caught fire. I have read that this is a common problem on 2000 mustangs. This should be a recalled problem. *tr

I went to fill up my car (gas) and i smelled more gas than what i would consider normal. I looked on the ground under the car and there was a pool of gas, and it was leaking as i was filling. I stopped filling the tank and asked the attendant for something to clean up the gas. When i got the car home, i looked underneath and upon close inspection found the filler neck was where the problem was. There is a piece of plastic surrounding the filler neck, which holds moisture and rusts the metal filler neck. This is the same problem i had with another car i owned!!! Same year. I asked several people i know who own mustangs, and each and every one of them had to have the same part replaced!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you search online, there are tons of articles and complaints about mustangs from 99-2004 with the same problem.! This is so dangerous, how come this hasn't been recalled? *tr

I went to fill up my gas tank and after 12 gallons smelled gas everywhere and noticed gas racing out from under my car. There had to be atleast half a gallon surrounding my shoes and if there had been a spark i would have been burned to death. After researching this problem on the internet i found out that hundreds of other people that own mustangs between the years of 1999 and 2004 have all had the same problem with what ford calls a defective gas nozzle grommet. Not something the 1999-2004 mustang is a stranger too. I remember the 1974 pinto and i owned one i really am uncomfortable with the thought that my mustang is even more prone to explosions then my old pinto. Please pay attention to this matter before it becomes the next 1974 pinto. Ps: yes i did have a "member of the annual pinto tailgate bbq party" bumper sticker on my pinto i would rather not have to get one of those stickers for my 2000 mustang convertible. While driving on the highway the plastic transition piece between the thermostat and the intake manifold failed causing coolant to fill four of the spark plug wells and causing the car to miss very badly. This is a known problem with these intakes and a recall is in place for some of them. Mine is the same part number as the recalled ones with the same problem as the recalled ones but not covered under the recall. *tr

Front passenger seat belt retractor malfunctioned. The seat belt is now stuck and will not extract. It cannot be worn by a passenger. This is the exact failure recalled in nhtsa campaign id number: 99v250000. However, my car's vin was not included in this recall. *tt

The failure recurred when the vehicle was being driven or stationary. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who expressed concerns to the contact of a potential fire as a result of the failure and advised that the transmission would possibly need replacing. So i thought i had a simple thermostat issue. Went to change the thermostat and noticed the manifold housing (plastic) had a nice crack in it. When doing research on this, i noticed there have been numerous complaints/instances of this happening to other people. Now i am in the process of finding a new intake manifold and will have to pay to have it installed. This seems to be an issue that the department of transportation should be involved in. Poor manufacture design with numerous incidents of failure that result in unnecessary high repair costs placed on the consumer. I am the original owner of this vehicle and think it is ridiculous! *tr

The contact stated that the abs warning light was also illuminated. In addition, the traction control malfunctioned. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer but the dealer could not remedy the problem. The dealer advised that the abs module needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the abs module for the particular year, make and model was no longer being manufactured and an aftermarket part was not available. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 90,000.

Takata recall. The drivers side seat belt was replaced under warranty the first time, as it was failing to return to default position properly. The seat belt was replaced a second time, after i was rear ended (it was failing to retract again at the time, identical to the first time i had to have it replaced under warranty), and crushed into the vehicle in front of me. I was at a full stop when the vehicle hit me from behind. That crash deployed both airbags. The front and rear bumpers were replaced due to that crash, along with the seat belt. I have no way of knowing if those two replacement airbags were made by takata. The seat belt has again become "unsafe" due to it not retracting. I have no way of knowing if the seat belt will function properly if i'm involved in another accident! This leaves me with two questions: do i have takata airbags in this car, and, is this seat belt issue a known problem that has been recalled or at least has a tsb issued? This is an 18 year old car that i seldom drive, and have owned since brand new, but if i have two safety issues that ford should be taking care of, i would like to know about it, so i can get the problems resolved. Is there any way for me to determine the i do or do not have takata airbags, since they were replaced by a ford dealer (now called "auto nation ford") here in frisco, texas. The date of the accident is an estimate.

The spark plug is popping out of the socket , this was a problem that i have replace once already with in the year. Also the paint is peeling off the roof on the car. I have seen that there has been other ford cars with the same problem , why is it that no one can see that this is a on going problem. Someone has to know about this problem with ford. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2000 ford mustang gt. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact noticed that the vehicle began to overheat and steam was escaping from under the hood. The contact stopped the vehicle and noticed that the plastic riser on the back side of the manifold and the heater hose were fractured and water was leaking from the heater hose. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home and was inspected by an independent mechanic. The mechanic was able to attach the hose back onto the vehicle. In addition, the intake gasket was leaking anti freeze and water where the manifold was attached to the cylinder heads. The mechanic advised that the intake manifold was fractured and would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

My gas tank began leaking fuel before i drove it in the first part of 2011. Not only was the grommet corroded but the filler pipe was leaking. I was unaware of the leak in the pipe because of the plastic tube around it and was led to believe it was either just the grommet or the tank itself. I got the grommet replaced and then through process of elimination found that the pipe needs replacing as well. The replacement process was so easy because so many people have had the same issue with mustangs from '99-'04. This is a dangerous defect because the gas leak can cause gas vapors to get trapped underneath the car and ignite easily. Gas vapors are light but still heavy enough to where they will not disperse completely from underneath the car. Driving down interstate when started smelling antifreeze. Thought it was coming from a car in front of me. All gauges were fine with no indication of an engine problem. I drove for several miles before i began to notice engine trouble. By this point all the water had been pumped out of the motor. All engine gauges continued to read fine. After pulling off side of the road and diagnosing the problem i discovered that the heater hose outlet on top of fords plastic intake had broke off. In order to fix this issue you have to replace the entire intake. This could have been much worse as when i stopped i could have been burned, also when i finally noticed it was my car smoke was filling the interior through the heater vents. In some circumstances, the switching mechanism could become nonfunctional, preventing the seat belt webbing from being extracted from the retractor. It is also possible that malfunction of the mechanism could prevent the belt from being switched into the alr mode. The elr mechanism is not affected by this condition. *tr

I have written to ford concerning a fuel leak on my 2000 mustang. I was advised to take it to my dealer to diagnose the problem. The service technician informed me that the fuel filler neck was rusted out and had a hole in it due to the placement of a shield on the tube. The shield held in dirt and water which allowed it to rust. It will cost approximately $431.35 to repair. This problem was caused by a design flaw by ford. It is extremely dangerous. I cannot put gas in my car when my children are in it for fear that it will catch on fire. The gas just pours out onto the pavement. Ford needs to issue a recall on this immediately. I should not have to pay for ford?S mistake. I have a copy of the invoice as well as the repair quote from ramey ford in johnson city,tn. I will fax it to you if you wish. Ford has sent me an email stating that not all complaints get investigated. This is a serious safety issue. These cars could possibly catch on fire and explode if this problem is not addressed. All mustang owners whose cars have had this shield placed on the fuel filler tube need to be aware of this safety hazard before someone gets seriously injured or killed. My 2000 mustang gt, with the 4.6 engine and with 80,000 miles, experienced a blown out a spark plug while on the highway at 55mph. Just the sound of this (a big "bang!" when the plug hits the inside of the hood and the engine now misfiring, running on 7 cylinders) is enough to distract the best driver and along with the lost of power is an accident just waiting to happen. After being almost rear ended, fortunately there was a parking lot nearby that my car barely coasted to. The plug came completely out of the cylinder head and was laying on the side of the engine with the coil still attached. I understand from ford, there is only 3 to 4 threads, in the cylinder head, that hold the spark plug in. As anyone with any engineering or engine knowledge would know, 3 - 4 threads are not nearly enough to secure a spark plug in a cylinder head with the compression pressure of the piston. This is clearly a engineering defect that could have disastrous effects if my car was unable to move off the highway. This time luck played into it (with a parking lot nearby), but what about the next time? Am i suppose to stop on the highway and take my chances? A plug blows out and there isn't anywhere to park and/or the plug also takes out the fuel rail resulting in a possible fire. As i stated above: an accident just waiting to happen. After further research i've found that this is a common problem on ford v8 engines made from 1997-98 to 2003. I'm really confused as to why there hasn't already been a recall involving these engines. If i make a mistake, i'm held responsible for that mistake. Why shouldn't ford be held responsible for their failures that could result in serious injury or even death? The nhtsa should immediately issue a recall involving these ford engines. Any nhtsa action short of a recall is just plain irresponsible. My mustang developed a fuel leak as the result of the fuel tank filler necks grommet failing. I initially smelled gas and after filling up the tank and parking on a hill i notice a large spot of gasoline on the pavement below. *tr

Ford designed the a/c drain line located above the right exhaust pipe leading to the catalytic converter on the 3.8 liter v6 engine. The cold condensation from the a/c dripping onto the pipe causes the pipe to crack or in some cases causes the catalytic converter to rupture or crack. This is an expensive repair. I know of 3 people in my business that this has happened to in just the past 6 months. One case the converter had to be replaced and in the other 2 the exhaust pipe had to be removed and welded at the cracks. Stainless steel pipes are welded different then the old steel pipes and require a special welding technique and equipment driving up the cost of the repair. This crack left unattended could lead to carbon monoxide entering the cockpit area. *tr

March 30, 2007 to whom it may concern: i have a 2000 ford mustang gt-while driving home today 3/30/07 in heavy traffic, i heard a load pop, and then lost engine function. I was lucky that i was not killed. When i checked my engine, it had blown the spark plug-i thought this was an isolated problem until i checked on the internet, and read all of the incidents with fords "spitting" spark plugs. I think it is horrific that ford will not stand behind their product and do the right thing-"recall"-how many will have to die before ford acknowledges there is a problem with their automobiles blowing spark plugs. I will say that as the owner of multiple ford mustangs including 65, 66, 67, 70, 98, 2000 (still have them all). I will think twice before buying another ford if they do not take appropriate action and acknowledge there is an issue with their product-something as simple as a notification of a potential problem could have saved 1000s from expensive, needless damage to their automobiles. I for one would have ensured that i did frequent spark plug checks to ensure they were secure, or would have possibly taken corrective measures before needed repairs from damage. American made should not equate to inferiorly made. I am requesting that i be reimbursed for the damage caused due to a faulty design with the cylinder head. In addition, i am requesting that ford notify the owners of the vehicle models with this design flaw to ensure that there is no needless loss of life from potential accidents as a direct result of this design flaw. *jb

My daughter was involved in a single vehicle front end collision. She hit a fire hydrant after a 90 degree spin at a speed of about 30 mph. The car sustained $6000 in damage and was totaled. Neither the driver or passenger airbags deployed. I questioned the body shop if they should have, everyone i talked to feels they should have. Isn't this what they are designed to do?

Headlight lens is plastic and it has discolored to the point that the headlights will not pass safety inspection. The inspector said this is a common failure on plastic verses glass sealed beam headlamps. *jb

My car completely shuts down while driving. It has happened 4 separate occasions. The car has been serviced twice for this and the dealer's service dept is currently trying to determine the problem, but no results have arrived. This is a serious safety concern due to high potential of a fatal accident resulting by the car shutting off while driving creating no power steering or brakes. The dealer's service dept has supposedly fixed and/or replaced 2 separate parts that were the supposed culprits, but the problem continues. Incidents occurred in 2002, 2005, and 2006. This problem, as you can see by dates, is random and happens without any warning, such as "idiot" lights coming on prior or engine hesitation, and apparently is just as complicated to diagnose. *nm

Took my 2000 mustang to the dealer to repair a knocking problem i was hearing when the car accelerated. Eventually after 3 visits and talking to 3 service advisors the knocking was heard. They replaced $1300 worth of parts, and said it was fixed. Drove it no more than 10 minutes and took it right back because the knocking was not fixed. They then told me that the motor was something inside the motor. So i had it replaced. Was returned 1 week later due to a problem with it staying running. The problem was identified as a rocker arm that had come loose. The car was returned 2 weeks later for the same knocking issue that was originally reported and no one knew what is wrong with it.*ak

A/c condensation drain tube drips on exhaust manifold causing the exhaust to brake. Its an on-going problem that should be corrected. The only remedy is to weld the tube back together. From many shops i've spoken to this is a problem they see and know a lot about. *nm

Iac valve, when the car will start but will not idle, looking at everyone's trouble with this issue, makes me wonder why ford motor company will not grow balls and make it right. On may 30, 2005, our daughter was exiting a parking lot in her 2000 ford mustang. Due to the fact that the exits weren''t clearly marked, she drove over the sidewalk, resulting in approximately a four inch drop off. After waiting for traffic to clear, she accelerated to exit the parking lot and both of her airbags deployed. She was fortunate that a police officer witnessed this incident. After speaking with the officer, i was assured that speed was not a factor. I also reviewed photographs of the area to view to see the drop-off and came to the conclusion that it was the equivalent of a ''highway pot-hole'', which should not have caused the premature deployment of the airbags.

Lens covers for headlights are foggy and pitted so bad the bulb isn't even visible making nighttime driving difficult. We work with several police officers who have expressed concern as their ford police cars are having the same problem with limited visibility during night patrol duty, often choosing not engaging in criminal chases over public safety concerns. I am about to install, for the third time, a second day air pump into my 2000 ford mustang. This is an emissions part and the mustang is designed to pass california emission standards. I live in wisconsin and this part has gone out 3 times. Also it can only be purchased directly from ford for around 300 dollars. It always manages to make it just past the part warranty period then goes out. Ford will not do anything to help me except take more of my money. I looked into it and they only used this part in 1999-2000 mustangs and lincoln 2000-2001. I can not find a recall on it but there is obviously a problem. Failure just happened. Failure of the "multi-function switch" on our 2000 mustang caused the failure of the turn signals, brake lights, wipers, and speed control. Had problem looked at by several mechanics. They replaced fuses, which remedied the situation for 24 hours. Then the fuses would blow, and the systems would fail. Chevrolet dealer discovered that leaving the hazard switch in the "on" position would allow these systems to function normally, but disabled the hazard warning lights. Upon calling the local ford dealer and speaking with the service manager, i described the problem, and he said it was the "multi-function switch", and that they had replaced "a few". I have not had the repair done yet, but intend to in the very near future. Meanwhile, my daughter drives the car with the hazard switch in the "on" position in order to have brake lights, turn signals, wipers, and her speed control operable. I feel this is a serious safety issue!*ak

The driver seat belt becomes stuck and does not fully retract. It also does not lock up when you brake quickly. The seat belt in the back seat is stuck and will not move or retract at all. It cannot be used at all, and therefore i cannot install the child car seat for my baby. There is an active recall for this problem for the 2000 ford mustang, but when i took the car to my local ford dealership they said that my vehicle is not covered under this recall. They advised me that i would have to pay to have the seatbelts repaired.

If the vehicle shuts off while moving it will lose power steering and braking causing the vehicle to swerve. *jb

Ford mustang 2000, front head light covers began to show small cracks similar to spider web. Within a 2 month period entire cover had cracks all over it, to the point where it appears that the lights are covered in something white. I do not feel comfortable driving at night because light is so dim. I have talked to other people whom have had same problem with ford cars. This is crazy and dangerous. I contact ford no recalls on this car and they did not seem to care about the problem. *jb

Noticed car nose dived a little bit more when braking, plus extra distance required to come to full stop. Rear brakes were recently replaced due to the armature guide pin(s) in the rear brake caliper assembly becoming frozen. One pin in each rear assembly (the same pin in both). Extra braking stress put on front brakes required replacement of rotors due to loss of minimal thicknes (not due to gouging and turning).*ak

While driving passenger's side airbag went off inadvertently. Passenger sustained head injuries, and was transported by ambulance to a hospital. The vehicle was towed. *ak

I bought my mustang in 2001 and the paint on the roof of my car is rusting/cracking from the inside out. There are several of these forming i went to koons ford of falls church and talked to john morris (703) 241-7298 ext 1500 which got in contact with a ford rep ray risano and they stated that there is nothing that they can do because the car is past the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty. I have very detailed photographs if requested.*ak

Over the past year my 2000 ford mustang has accelerated by itself without my foot on the gas peddle..And its a 5 speed ...(stick shift) thank goodness i have been able to throw it into neuteral and then i have to slam the gas peddle down to the floor to get it to unstick ..Both times have been on a busy highway during rush hour traffic...When i asked ford to look at it ..They told me they couldnt find anything wrong with it .. I had taken it in to have the catalitic converter fixed..And they said that might have been the problem but in talking it over with my brother (who is a car mechanic) he didnt think that the catalitic conv. Would have nothing to do with the accelerator sticking like that !.. It hasnt happened in a while but its very nerve wracking when it does/not sure if this has happened to any other mustangs out there..

During acceleration going up hill the driver side seat broke, cousing me to almost loos controll of the vehical. The top part of the seat is secured with only one bolt witch snaped, allowing the top half (back support) of the seat to fold completely back words on to the back seat. I wheigh about 180 lb, if there was some on in the back they may have been hurt, and i had to rely on holding the steering wheel to prevent me from falling back. To repair i had to drill the remaing half of the bolt out, and then rethred the whole, and insert a new bolt. *ak

Rear axle bearings and axle shafts prematurely failed. First occurance was at 34,000 miles under manufacturers warranty. Dealer replaced carrier bearings, wheel bearings and axle shafts. Axles and bearings failed again at 46,000 miles, after warranty expired. Dealer contacted ford motor company and ford elected to replace bearings and axles again under warranty. Now at 90,000 miles the bearings and shafts have failed again. Dealer is evaluating the problem with ford and i am waiting for a solution under warranty due to either a manufacturing defect or design defect. I am worried that the bearings will seize and cause an accident.*ak

Consumer indicated that both plastic headlights had glazed over, almost opaque. It resulted in extremely reduced headlight visibility during the night, obstructing consumer's view while driving the vehicle. *ak the consumer stated that the plastic on both headlights was so bad that it was impossible to see when the sun started to set. *tc

While driving 25 mph consumer lost control of the vehicle and it collided with the vehicle in front. Upon impact, both frontal air bags failed to deploy. Driver sustained minor injuries. The vehicle was towed to a garage. *ak

After hearing a noise from the rear of the vehicle. The left rear unibody began to crack. The dealer stated that if the crack gets worse it will release the rear end of the vehicle. *jb

The support mechanism that supports the rear end of the vehicle rusted. The manufacturer states that no defects have been reported. *jb

While cleaning my spark plugs, i noticed the number #3 spark plug had oil on the spark plug thread. When i put my finger into the number #3 cylinder hole oil showed on my finger. The number #3 plug was also fouled compared to the other new plugs. This could lead to engine damage or a fire in the engine area. I heard that ford had a service bulletin on this problem, but i called ford and they said there is no service bulletin on my car for this problem. I was told by many owners that ford had a valve cover buffle to pcv valve problem on 1999 and 2000 mustang 3.8, but they will not do any thing to correct the problem. I was told my many owners that they mod. And removed the pcv valve and replaced it with filters to stop oil getting into the cylinders. This would make it illegal and would like to see the problem corrected properly. I was told that the 2001 valve covers and up corrected this problem.*ak

I bought a 2000 ford mustang and three days later i noticed the shift indicator position marker on the floor was not showing what gear the car was in. This could cause an accident during day and most likely during night driving and could also cause tranmission problems not being able to see the gear shift position. I took it to the ford dealer and they installed a new bezel asy-transmission and it works fine now, but a car that's only four years should not happen and i have never had a car that the shift indicator marker has broken.*ak

While driving 30 mph consumer's vehicle was involved in a head on collision. Upon impact, dual air bags did not deploy, and driver's side seat belt failed. As a result, driver hit the windshield, and sustained severe lower back and neck injuries. *ak

At times, my engine revs very high. I can actually continue to accelerate without depressing the gas pedal. When coming to a stop, the engine will rev up to nearly 4000 rpm with the clutch pedal pressed, and my other foot braking. Once i stop the car, the rpms then decrease but still stay on the high side (1500 rpms). Also, when going throughout the shift sequence (1st to 2nd to 3rd etc... Each time i press the clutch, the rpms shoot up). I am an engineer, business owner, and somewhat intelligent man. There are no obstructions to the accelerator cable that i can see, and no, my foot is not on the gas pedal. This is a real problem. It makes driving... Interesting to say the least, and in the hands of someone less capable, this would cause a severe risk.*ak

Purchased vehicle from used car lot on 5/14/2004. Had suspicion that vehicle had been wrecked and repaired. They assured me that they do not sell vehicles like that and it was never in an accident. I received a statement from an auto body shop stating that the vehicle has been wrecked and repaired and still has suspension damage. The dealership i purchased the vehicle from thinks i am lying and trying to get out of a contract. I have taken pictures of the vehicle and its damages. I have also obtained a car fax report stating that there was an accident reported in washington state with a police report # and a accident report #. Since the vehicle was purchased, it drove really squirmy, pulled to both sides of the vehicle and had a problem when it was test drove. They thought it was brakes and it actually was a problem with the gears. The brakes were ok, they were not the best and did not stop the vehicle that well. The vents in the vehicle were broken out, which i fixed the best i could, the shift box inside the vehicle had the protective cover missing and the shifter indicator that lets you know what gear you are in did not move at all.*ak

Headlight plastic lenses have become very clouded and it would appear that the headlights emit less light and in a much more defused manner, so that the headlights are not as effective. It would appear that 4 years in the sun in texas has probably caused quite a few ford products with these plastic headlight lenses (covers) to be in this condition.*ak

While driving a knocking noise was heard coming from the rear of the vehicle. While driving 35 mph, the consumer rounded a corner near a hidden stop light. Another vehicle was at the stop light and the consumer collided with the vehicle. The left front of the vehicle hit the right rear of the other motorist. The air bags never deployed after the collision. There were no injuries involved with the collision. The police did arrive on the scene, but no one was cited. The dealer was aware of the problem, but the manufacturer was not. *jb while driving at 40 mph consumer rear ended a vehicle that was stopped at a stop light. The air bag equipment did not deploy. Vehicle suffered undercarriage damage when the consumer tried to miss the other vehicle by trying to jump the curb.*mr

I purchased a 2000 mustang gt. When cold, and putting the vehicle in drive or reverse, it will suddenly jump forward or reverse depending on if your in reverse or drive. It is if it "gives" itself gas. I tried contacting ford and they said there was a problem, but not something that they were "prepared" to deal with at this time. This is a safety hazard that if someone is not prepared, will cause them to go into traffic, hit a young child or gas pump. This is not isolated, i have spoken to several people that have had the same problem. My vehicle does this often, and if my wife is driving it, i have to remind her to be careful. *ak

As i was driving and reached 30 mph it sounded like the transmission would not shifting to the next gear. It made a screeching noise and would not pass 30 mph mean while the rpm was to 8. Then it jumped and passed 30 mph. This happened every time it reached 30 mph. The automatic transmission was slow to shift. This 2000 mustang only has 40,000 miles!!- and i was told by ford that the transmission was damaged--on top of that the warranty does not cover the $1,600 cost. I've heard a lot of the same complaint about ford mustang 's transmission. For a 3 year old mustang we should not have to pay for a defected transmission !!!!Even thought the warranty has expired -- ford should help cover the cost. *la

While driving at 30 mph, the consumer felt that the vehicle had no power and was unresponsive. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic, who informed the consumer that two engine mounting bolts were loose. The mechanic also had to replace the power steering pump. Dt: the contact owns a 2000 ford mustang. While the vehicle is parked on a hill and the emergency brake is on the vehicle will continue to roll down a hill. The vehicle was purchased in november 2003. The repair shop said that it was something wrong with the emergency brake. My 2000 mustang gt, manual transmission, keeps cutting out suddenly with deceleration and i lose my power brakes and steering. Very scary. The iac valve was replaced 18 months. Ago when i bought the car, but i still had problems. After doing this continually for 2 days, the dealer changed the iac again. Four days later it did it again, twice. This is a safety issue, and when i called ford regional, i got nothing useful no one seems to know what causes this. *la

While driving 45 mph on the highway the hood of the vehicle flew up. This action caused the hood to be bent and the top of the vehicle to be damaged. The dealer has been notified.

Car has been stalling, stalled three times within two miles. It's currently in the shop, dealer recommends to re-program the computer. I believe it could be something to do with the iac. This is a serious safety issue, when the car dies, there is no power steering and the brakes become very hard to depress. This should be recalled and fixed as soon as possible.

Front seat belt retraction doesn't retract. It stopped retracting after the warranty was up. The front seat belt continue to non-retract so they get caught in the doors and chip paint and cause problems. *tr

In order to shift my 2000 mustang gt into reverse, i have to first shift the car into first gear as the reverse gear is not synchronized. The dealership it was bought from claims that this is a known issue with this model year but the issue is not stated in the manual and i have never been informed otherwise. Further, even though i shift the car into first before going to reverse, i still have difficulty getting the stick into reverse periodically. The process is inconvenient - why should i have to shift into two gears just to get to the one i want?*ak

I have a 2000 ford mustang v6, and i have an ongoing problem that the dealer (magic ford, in valencia ca its been in the dealer four times) cant fix and cant find out whats wrong with the car. Whenever i drove the car and it gets hot and when i shut off the engine and try restarting the car, and the car would not start, i have to wait until the engine cool off, then the car would start, it happened to me when i stopped at the grocery store, and try starting the car and it would not start, same thing when i stopped at the gasoline station, i have to wait until it gets cool off before the would start again. Here are the history of the ongoing problem, the first time i took the car to the dealer when it was still under the warranty, the dealer told me that they dont know the problem because the computer would not give out any code, so they cant fix the car, but they know that the car would not start. Second time i brought the car to the dealer, they found out that it was the key, and the ignition, so they have to reprogram the key to send signal to the ignition, (i have to pay because it was out of the warranty, when they could have fixed the problem in the first time.) third time i took the car to the dealer they said the fuel pump was loose and the battery cable was loose (i dont think so) a week later, fourth time i took the car back, still doesnt know whats wrong with the car, its been in the dealer for 3 days now. I dont know what im going to do with this car. Please advice.

I bought the vehicle used on may 03, 2003 from ramey ford in tazewell, va and under the terms that they would check the clutch for vibration. Upon checking the clutch, i was advised that the clutch rod needed replaced and this was completed. After getting the vehicle back the first time, i have gone through an ongoing problem with the clutch making a vibration/rattle type noise that comes and goes even after the pressure plate, throw-out bearing, and fly-wheel were replaced. Also, for 3 1/2 to 4 months the service engine soon light would come on periodically and start blinking and then go off, this has finally stopped after 3 attempts at fixing the problem, after the pcm was reprogrammed and a coil pack was changed. For a car that looks brand new inside and out, these constant problems have been very troublesome and aggravating especially after 6 repair attempts (going on 7).

I was involved in a one car accident where i lost control and jumped a curb. My car was a 2000 v6 mustang coupe. The air bags deployed when the car made contact with the curb. But i was then airborn in the car for about 12 feet and by the time my car hit the ground my air bags had deflated, causing my passenger to hit her head on the dashboard. She had her seatbelt on, and be knocked unconscious. Also... When the air bags deployed they came out with such force that it knocked my hands off the steering wheel, causing me to not be able to steer the car .Scared that if the tires weren't straight when we would touch down that we would flip. The same incident happened 2 days ago when my friend wrecked his 20'01 gt. He had lost control of the vehicle and clipped a telephone poll doing about 50mph. He then jumped a ditch... Went airborn... And wrapped his car around a tree. The airbags deployed,but had deflated by the time he had any real contact. The airbags deployed when he clipped the telephone poll... But when he needed it most it had already deflated... Causing him to hit his head on the steering wheel and then having his head go through the windshield. Airbags do not need to deflate so quickly. I think this needs to be looked into. Thank you!*ak

Despite a new set of michelin's, our 2000 ford mustang convertible tends to lose control in the slightest bit of standing or flowing water on the road. Due to poor surface drainage in south texas, with a heavy rain it is typical to find a thin film of flowing water before and after a bridge. Although other traffic appears unaffected, the mustang often loses control as it passes through the water. *jb

The paint is cracking and peeling all over the roof of my 2 1/2 year old mustang. It started as one spot, now there is a large hole with rust underneath it. There are about 13 small cracks in the paint on the roof where it is peeling, and other spots on the hood and front bumper. I have been to my dealer 4-5 times to attempt repair and financial reimbursement, only to get the runaround. A ford rep supposedly looked at it, after ford offered to pay half the $400 estimate, but they have not made attempts to contact me. The dealer is mossy ford in san diego, ca. I have discovered that ford repainted my vehicle before selling it to me as "new". The thickness is 10mm on the paint; average is 3-4. A repainted car is obvious upon inspection of paint specialists. Rust from underneath the vehicle has "popped up" and cracked the paint coming from the inside.

Steering bolt came loose. Dealer notified.

Vehicle has 24000 miles on it. At approx. 12000 miles the clutch lost travel distance, and could not be adjusted using the manual adjustment procedure. Clutch froze one morning after a very cold sub-zero night. Upon starting vehicle with clutch partially engaged, clutch burned. Then fell out of 4th gear while traveling at 40 mph. Dealer claims it is a wear item and bad driving resulted in pressure plates being unusually worn, a problem with the linkage was also noted but not assessed as contributing to the worn plates. Customer contends the linkage failed and caused continuous rubbing of pressure plates inside transmission ultimately leading to failure, and should be addressed by manufacturer. Premature wear of the plates is most likely linked to the failure in the linkage and the failure of the self adjusting clutch to in effect, self adjust when the pedal is pulled up and pushed down as recommended in the manual. Suspect this may also be a problem with the parts original to vehicle. Ts

When filling gas the gas pours out of the fill pipe befor it has shut off the pump. This has happened at most pumps that i have visited. There is no way to tell your are near the top of the tank. The gas just spills out for a few seconds. Could cause fires, enviromental damage and damage to paint on cars.

Check engine light came on. Taken to local dealer for dianois of engine miss. Charged $65.00 could not find problem why car was missing. Okayed for tear down additional an $135.00. Was told push rod bent. Valve and valve spring broken. Possible head damage. Was called to okay an additional $625.00 charge for look for possible piston damage. All problems steming from number 6 cyclinder.

Consumer complained that the front seat belts were stuck in the retractors. Dealer examined the belts and will not replace them for free. One of the belts broke a year ago, and the other one just recently.*ak *tc

There were noises coming from the steering wheel and column. The dealer was unable to detect. The suspension creaks/pops while driving after a cold start, the noises fade after the vehicle is warm. The rack and pinion was replaced. The steering column collapsed on the consumers foot while driving and while head on with an 18 wheeler. The vehicle drifted into oncoming traffic. Dealer installed a new sector shaft. The brake pedal was spongy, the tires started to dry crack(the consumer was advised to keep an eye on), and the center console would not latch shut. *mr *scc *nlm

Consumer cannot fill up gas tank completely. Vehicle checked by dealer 4 times, and problem still exists. Dealer has replaced fuel filler pipe, tube assembly, fuel vapor control valve solenoid and fuel vapor storage canister assembly.*ak

While stopping at an intersection another car driving 20-30 mph hit consumer's vehicle head on. Upon impact, driver's air bags did not deploy,driver sustained injuries. *ak

While traveling at 60 mph consumer ran head-on into a telephone pole, and none of front air bags deployed. Contacted dealer ,and the dealer was not willing to do anything. *ak

This is the 2nd air pump to be replaced on vehicle. Engine check light illuminated, indicating a loss of performance. Engine was sluggish and idling high at stops. Ford was contacted. Please provide more information.*ak

Engine check light came on so i took the car to a local dealer. He informed me that the eec test code was P0411 which deals with emissions. When the dealer removed a hose to inspect the component, water came out of the hose. The dealer informed me that the entire air pump was full of water and had "burned" out as a result. I will have to have the pump and relay replaced at a cost of $275 for parts and $120 for labor. He further informed me that this was extremely rare and he did not know how the water could have gotten in to the pump. I called ford customer care and informed them of the problem and they informed me that they had no other complaints of this nature, but would file the information away for future reference. According to the dealer, this "problem" does not affect driveability of the car, and since virginia doesn't require emissions control testing, there is no requirement to have it replaced, however, the "check engine soon" light will remain on until the air pump and relay are replaced.*ak

Both drivers side, and passenger side automatic windows will not stay on track. Since the day of purchase, both windows have been intermittently sluggish, and on occasion, struggled to move up or down. The drivers side window came off the track first, and was repaired under warranty in 2002. After 3 attempts by the local dealership in 2005 to repair both windows, they remain inoperable. The problem is the engine stalls. This happens when the engine is warm or cold. It also happens after the clutch has been disengaged after being at speed and the rpms are decreasing to the programmed idle rpm. However, instead of stopping at the idling rpm, the engine rpm dips to low and the engine stalls. I lose power steering and brakes which cause a very dangerous situation. I also noticed that this happens more often if i am going around a turn or turning on the ac (both items require more power from the engine)while disengaging the clutch. I have been having a problem with my safety belt harness for several months now. I feel this is a safety hazard. When i start to latch my seat belt on the drivers side it will twist and i have to get out of the car and help it retracked. Sometimes it won't retrack properly and i have to wear it as is. When the belt isn't like it should be and if i apply my brakes to suddenly stop it won't catch like a seat belt is supposed to. I made an appointment on 12/18/2001 to have this problem fix and the dealership said it was checked and was found to be in normal operation. My car did not do this until a couple of months ago. I know this is not normal and i feel it is a major safety hazzard. I am a faithful seatbelt wearer and i feel very uncomfortable wearing this one. I understand that your company doesn't get in the affairs of the customer and the dealer; however this isn't the first time my car hasn't been worked on due to them not finding anything. I strongly feel that this isn't the way all ford vehicles are structured. If that were true i would have had trouble with it a year ago not one year and 6 months later. On 8/27/2001 i took our car to our ford dealer due to it feeling lit it was running out of gas even thought it had gas. They could not find anything wrong. On 09/02/2001 while driving to california we had the same problem. Due to it being a holiday weekend it could not be looked at until 09/04/2001. Future ford of roseville calif. Had to replace the fuel tank sender, cluster asy. Sndr & pump asy. And filter asy. On our way home from a trip to ca. On 05/30/02 we had the same problem again, this time while on hwy 50 in utah. About 2 1/2 months ago my boyfriend was driving my car. He ask me if i had ever had the "brakes not want to work on me" i was driving and i came to a stop sign. Master cylinder problems. Was replaced/repaired by dealership and returned. Brake still makes funny noise and is still "mushy" when applied. Fuel injection has be repaired 4 going on 5 times now. Engine makes a pinging/diesel sound when driven at constant rate of speed. Sometimes at 30 mph, sometimes at highway speeds. Sensors have been replaced, injectors have been replaced and still not fixed. At idle/stop car jumps forward without accelorator applied.

While driving and when stepping on brakes power seat will automatically release itself. Power seat will either go forward or backward, and lock itself in that position.This problem happens intermittently. Contacted dealer and can't find problem.

Complaint on my 2000 ford mustang coupe(orginal owner ). Vehicle has problems relating to the position of the carpet around the accelerator pedal. After minimal use of the vehicle ( 5000 miles or around 3-5 months of use) a large hole developed on the right side of the accelerator pedal. If the accelerator is depressed fully or almost fully the side of your shoe can catch on the hole long enough to pose a saftey hazard of not being able to take your foot immeadatly off the accelerator pedal. I have had this happen on several occasions, and have to be very concious of my foot position on the accelerator pedal when driving to prevent this problem now that i am aware of it. Ford deems this problem as normal wear and tear on the car and would not cover replacement of the carpet under my bumper to bumper warrenty.(which is now expired) pictures are available, please contact and i will forward them to you.

Air conditioning made loud noises when running. Dealership said that the water was dropping directly on to the 1500 degree exhaust pipe causing the loud noise. Because the heat shield wasn't properly functioning, dealership placed a pipe underneath to divert the water.*ak

I was driving a mustang on an ice road when i lost control of the car and hit a big tree that was on a ditch. I hit the tree with the front of the car. The airbags did not deploy which caused my head to hit something and i was bleeding real bad and now i have a big scar on my forehead. *ak

While driving about 35-40 mph in slippery road conditions consumer hit 2 trees and ditch head-on. Consumer hit her head on steering wheel and needed 18 stitches. Neither airbag deployed. Vehicle was totalled.*ak

This is the second saleen that we know of that the identical problem occurred, car # 0208 and mine # 0594, both due to the electrical wiring harness. I've contacted saleen, downs ford and an attorney for help. Saleen told me they don't know of this ever happening before me, i have documents, name and telephone number of other party. *ak

Upon deceleration, vehicle drops idle to 400-500 rpm and fluctuates. Sometimes stalls, causing loss of power steering, and brakes. Vehicle was serviced, replaced idle air control valve, reducing intensity and frequency of problem, not correcting it. Car has been taken in for service three seperate times, twice they could find nothing wrong with the vehicle. Upon consulting with other 2000 mustang gt owners, it is common problem. Some vehicles are still stalling heavily upon deceleration. If vehicle stalls, power brakes and steering are lost without warning, possible causing an accident. I am encouraging others with same problem to report to nhsta. This problem was reported to ford consumer relations today, 5/10/01. This problem occurs on 99-2000 mustang gt with manual transmission.

My wife (donna) on her way home from work became involved in an accident where the air bags did not deploy when they should have. She was clipped on the left rear quarter panel which spun her around causing a second suv to impact the drivers door pushing her and flipping her until she impacted a cement barrier between opposite traveled lanes. The impact at the barrier was stong enough that it pushed the radiator aginst the motor and the motor toward the firewall. Fortunately she was not seriously injured and the air bags were not needed, but what if that cement barrier had not been there and she would have skidded into oncoming traffic where the air bags would have been a contributing factor in saving her life? *ak

Driver forced to place manual transmission in neutral, depress clutch, and restart motor, which restarted each time, but forced driver to attempt to start car, control car, and stop car simultaniously.*ak

While unattended, car rolled down 200 foot steeply sloped driveway, missing other parked car, knocking down tree and rolling into drainage ditch this side and then the other side of street. Car is still not properly aligned and convertible roof needs more work.
