  • Recall 47902 [USA]: Failure of this connection could lead to fuel spillage and, in the presence of an ignition source, a fire could occur.
    Certain aftermarket fuel filters sold under the purolator brand name, p/n f65277, shipped from january 16 through june 2, 2006, for use on the above listed passenger vehicles. Due to incorrect design, the quick connectors may not fully seat with the tube interface, even though the person making the connection may believe that the quick connector is fully attached.

  • Recall 5699 [USA]: In some cases, directional control of the vehicle could be reduced.
    Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. If the ball joint assembly in the rear knuckle, where the lower control arm attaches, is displaced longitudinally from its installed position, it can cause higher stress levels in the knuckle casting. If this occurs, the casting could fracture, allowing the corner of the vehicle to drop, and the lower control arm could contact the inside of the rear wheel.

  • Recall 6230 [USA]: Loss of visibility could occur, increasing the risk of a crash.
    Vehicle description: passenger vehicles equipped with 4.6l engines. A coolant flow blockage exists at the intake manifold heater core nipple resulting in no coolant flow to the heater and, therefore, no warm air flow from the heater or windshield defroster. Vehicles with this condition do not comply with the requirements of fmvss no. 103, "windshield defrosting and defogging systems."
    customers will be asked to verify, following instructions provided, that heated air flows from their vehicle's heater/defroster outlets. The customers will be advised to contact their dealers to make arrangements for repair of their vehicles if no heated air flow exists at these outlets.

  • Recall 9808 [USA]: If the mechanism malfunctions and does not allow the webbing to be extracted, the lap and shoulder belt could not be worn by a vehicle occupant. in the event that the mechanism does not allow the alr mode to be engaged, the operator may be unable to properly install a child seat in that seating position.
    Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. The seat belt retractor may have a pin shaft in the switchable elr/alr mechanism that is incorrectly formed. In some circumstances, the switching mechanism could become nonfunctional, preventing the seat belt webbing from being extracted from the retractor. It is also possible that malfunction of the mechanism could prevent the belt from being switched into the alr mode. The elr mechanism is not affected by this condition.
    dealers will inspect the lap and shoulder belt assemblies. Assemblies with julian date codes of 200 through 223 are suspect and will be replaced.

  • Recall 2001079 [Canada]: Suspension
    On certain mustang svt vehicles, when operated in severe driving cycles such as frequent drag race type standing start acceleration, the ball joint in the rear suspension knuckle where the lower control arm attaches may be displaced longitudinally out of its installed position. If this occurs, the stress levels in the knuckle casting will increase and the casting may fracture. The corner of the vehicle will then drop and the lower control arm may contact the inside of the wheel, possibly affecting directional control. Correction: dealers will install a revised rear suspension knuckle assembly with positive retention of the ball joint.

  • Recall 2000282 [Canada]: Brakes

    Certain mustang gt vehicles may not comply with c.M.V.S.S. 103 - windshield defrosting and defogging. Coolant flow blockage at the intake manifold heater core nipple results in no coolant flow to the heater and, therefore, no warm air flow from the heater or windshield defroster. Correction: dealers will repair the heater core nipple blockage and restore coolant flow.

My 2000 mustang gt overheated while i was driving back home, on a ten mile journey a couple days ago. Until this incident, my mustang had never overheated. I bought the car last sept. I used hose water at gas station to cool it first on hood then once my engine looked cooler, i filled the radiator (thinking we'd flush the cooling system when i got it home) water emptied as fast as i poured it in, from intake manifold behind what looks like the thermostat housing. My car is my only transportation. Now i'm not sure what to do. Because i used all my money to buy this car. I can not afford to fix this. There is a piece of plastic surrounding the filler neck, which holds moisture and rusts the metal filler neck. This is the same problem i had with another car i owned!!! Same year. I went to fill up my gas tank and after 12 gallons smelled gas everywhere and noticed gas racing out from under my car. There had to be atleast half a gallon surrounding my shoes and if there had been a spark i would have been burned to death. After researching this problem on the internet i found out that hundreds of other people that own mustangs between the years of 1999 and 2004 have all had the same problem with what ford calls a defective gas nozzle grommet. Not something the 1999-2004 mustang is a stranger too. I remember the 1974 pinto and i owned one i really am uncomfortable with the thought that my mustang is even more prone to explosions then my old pinto. Please pay attention to this matter before it becomes the next 1974 pinto. Takata recall. The drivers side seat belt was replaced under warranty the first time, as it was failing to return to default position properly. The seat belt was replaced a second time, after i was rear ended (it was failing to retract again at the time, identical to the first time i had to have it replaced under warranty), and crushed into the vehicle in front of me. I was at a full stop when the vehicle hit me from behind. That crash deployed both airbags. The front and rear bumpers were replaced due to that crash, along with the seat belt. I have no way of knowing if those two replacement airbags were made by takata. The seat belt has again become "unsafe" due to it not retracting. I have no way of knowing if the seat belt will function properly if i'm involved in another accident! This leaves me with two questions: do i have takata airbags in this car, and, is this seat belt issue a known problem that has been recalled or at least has a tsb issued? This is an 18 year old car that i seldom drive, and have owned since brand new, but if i have two safety issues that ford should be taking care of, i would like to know about it, so i can get the problems resolved. Is there any way for me to determine the i do or do not have takata airbags, since they were replaced by a ford dealer (now called "auto nation ford") here in frisco, texas. The date of the accident is an estimate.

The vehicle was towed to the contact's home and was inspected by an independent mechanic. The mechanic was able to attach the hose back onto the vehicle. In addition, the intake gasket was leaking anti freeze and water where the manifold was attached to the cylinder heads. My gas tank began leaking fuel before i drove it in the first part of 2011. Not only was the grommet corroded but the filler pipe was leaking. I was unaware of the leak in the pipe because of the plastic tube around it and was led to believe it was either just the grommet or the tank itself. I got the grommet replaced and then through process of elimination found that the pipe needs replacing as well. The replacement process was so easy because so many people have had the same issue with mustangs from '99-'04. This is a dangerous defect because the gas leak can cause gas vapors to get trapped underneath the car and ignite easily. Gas vapors are light but still heavy enough to where they will not disperse completely from underneath the car. Gas also evaporates very quickly so this could happen in the short amount of time it takes to fuel your car. Every ford/mustang forum i have read indicates that mustangs tend to wear out these two parts too quickly. They should be recalled and substituted with a better part (both the gas tank grommet and filler pipe). *tr

Driving down interstate when started smelling antifreeze. Thought it was coming from a car in front of me. All gauges were fine with no indication of an engine problem. I drove for several miles before i began to notice engine trouble. By this point all the water had been pumped out of the motor. All engine gauges continued to read fine. After pulling off side of the road and diagnosing the problem i discovered that the heater hose outlet on top of fords plastic intake had broke off. In order to fix this issue you have to replace the entire intake. This could have been much worse as when i stopped i could have been burned, also when i finally noticed it was my car smoke was filling the interior through the heater vents. I still don't know if the motor is alright as it severely overheated. Bare minimum is over 800 to fix if there is no motor damage. *tr

I have written to ford concerning a fuel leak on my 2000 mustang. I was advised to take it to my dealer to diagnose the problem. The service technician informed me that the fuel filler neck was rusted out and had a hole in it due to the placement of a shield on the tube. The shield held in dirt and water which allowed it to rust. It will cost approximately $431.35 to repair. This problem was caused by a design flaw by ford. It is extremely dangerous. I cannot put gas in my car when my children are in it for fear that it will catch on fire. The gas just pours out onto the pavement. Ford needs to issue a recall on this immediately. I should not have to pay for ford?S mistake. I have a copy of the invoice as well as the repair quote from ramey ford in johnson city,tn. I will fax it to you if you wish. Ford has sent me an email stating that not all complaints get investigated. This is a serious safety issue. These cars could possibly catch on fire and explode if this problem is not addressed. All mustang owners whose cars have had this shield placed on the fuel filler tube need to be aware of this safety hazard before someone gets seriously injured or killed. My 2000 mustang gt, with the 4.6 engine and with 80,000 miles, experienced a blown out a spark plug while on the highway at 55mph. Just the sound of this (a big "bang!" when the plug hits the inside of the hood and the engine now misfiring, running on 7 cylinders) is enough to distract the best driver and along with the lost of power is an accident just waiting to happen. After being almost rear ended, fortunately there was a parking lot nearby that my car barely coasted to. The plug came completely out of the cylinder head and was laying on the side of the engine with the coil still attached. I understand from ford, there is only 3 to 4 threads, in the cylinder head, that hold the spark plug in. As anyone with any engineering or engine knowledge would know, 3 - 4 threads are not nearly enough to secure a spark plug in a cylinder head with the compression pressure of the piston. This is clearly a engineering defect that could have disastrous effects if my car was unable to move off the highway. This time luck played into it (with a parking lot nearby), but what about the next time? Am i suppose to stop on the highway and take my chances? A plug blows out and there isn't anywhere to park and/or the plug also takes out the fuel rail resulting in a possible fire. As i stated above: an accident just waiting to happen. After further research i've found that this is a common problem on ford v8 engines made from 1997-98 to 2003. I'm really confused as to why there hasn't already been a recall involving these engines. If i make a mistake, i'm held responsible for that mistake. Why shouldn't ford be held responsible for their failures that could result in serious injury or even death? The nhtsa should immediately issue a recall involving these ford engines. Any nhtsa action short of a recall is just plain irresponsible. The nhtsa is a government agency charged with protecting the public. Please investigate this ford engine defect. The american public deserves nothing less. *tr

Ford designed the a/c drain line located above the right exhaust pipe leading to the catalytic converter on the 3.8 liter v6 engine. The cold condensation from the a/c dripping onto the pipe causes the pipe to crack or in some cases causes the catalytic converter to rupture or crack. This is an expensive repair. I know of 3 people in my business that this has happened to in just the past 6 months. One case the converter had to be replaced and in the other 2 the exhaust pipe had to be removed and welded at the cracks. Stainless steel pipes are welded different then the old steel pipes and require a special welding technique and equipment driving up the cost of the repair. This crack left unattended could lead to carbon monoxide entering the cockpit area. *tr

March 30, 2007 to whom it may concern: i have a 2000 ford mustang gt-while driving home today 3/30/07 in heavy traffic, i heard a load pop, and then lost engine function. I was lucky that i was not killed. When i checked my engine, it had blown the spark plug-i thought this was an isolated problem until i checked on the internet, and read all of the incidents with fords "spitting" spark plugs. I think it is horrific that ford will not stand behind their product and do the right thing-"recall"-how many will have to die before ford acknowledges there is a problem with their automobiles blowing spark plugs. I will say that as the owner of multiple ford mustangs including 65, 66, 67, 70, 98, 2000 (still have them all). I will think twice before buying another ford if they do not take appropriate action and acknowledge there is an issue with their product-something as simple as a notification of a potential problem could have saved 1000s from expensive, needless damage to their automobiles. I for one would have ensured that i did frequent spark plug checks to ensure they were secure, or would have possibly taken corrective measures before needed repairs from damage. American made should not equate to inferiorly made. I am requesting that i be reimbursed for the damage caused due to a faulty design with the cylinder head. In addition, i am requesting that ford notify the owners of the vehicle models with this design flaw to ensure that there is no needless loss of life from potential accidents as a direct result of this design flaw. *jb

Took my 2000 mustang to the dealer to repair a knocking problem i was hearing when the car accelerated. Eventually after 3 visits and talking to 3 service advisors the knocking was heard. They replaced $1300 worth of parts, and said it was fixed. Drove it no more than 10 minutes and took it right back because the knocking was not fixed. They then told me that the motor was something inside the motor. So i had it replaced. Was returned 1 week later due to a problem with it staying running. The problem was identified as a rocker arm that had come loose. The car was returned 2 weeks later for the same knocking issue that was originally reported and no one knew what is wrong with it.*ak

On may 30, 2005, our daughter was exiting a parking lot in her 2000 ford mustang. Due to the fact that the exits weren''t clearly marked, she drove over the sidewalk, resulting in approximately a four inch drop off. After waiting for traffic to clear, she accelerated to exit the parking lot and both of her airbags deployed. She was fortunate that a police officer witnessed this incident. After speaking with the officer, i was assured that speed was not a factor. Failure just happened. Failure of the "multi-function switch" on our 2000 mustang caused the failure of the turn signals, brake lights, wipers, and speed control. Had problem looked at by several mechanics. They replaced fuses, which remedied the situation for 24 hours. Then the fuses would blow, and the systems would fail. Chevrolet dealer discovered that leaving the hazard switch in the "on" position would allow these systems to function normally, but disabled the hazard warning lights. Upon calling the local ford dealer and speaking with the service manager, i described the problem, and he said it was the "multi-function switch", and that they had replaced "a few". I have not had the repair done yet, but intend to in the very near future. Meanwhile, my daughter drives the car with the hazard switch in the "on" position in order to have brake lights, turn signals, wipers, and her speed control operable. During acceleration going up hill the driver side seat broke, cousing me to almost loos controll of the vehical. The top part of the seat is secured with only one bolt witch snaped, allowing the top half (back support) of the seat to fold completely back words on to the back seat. I wheigh about 180 lb, if there was some on in the back they may have been hurt, and i had to rely on holding the steering wheel to prevent me from falling back. Now at 90,000 miles the bearings and shafts have failed again. While cleaning my spark plugs, i noticed the number #3 spark plug had oil on the spark plug thread. When i put my finger into the number #3 cylinder hole oil showed on my finger. I heard that ford had a service bulletin on this problem, but i called ford and they said there is no service bulletin on my car for this problem. I was told by many owners that ford had a valve cover buffle to pcv valve problem on 1999 and 2000 mustang 3.8, but they will not do any thing to correct the problem. I was told my many owners that they mod. And removed the pcv valve and replaced it with filters to stop oil getting into the cylinders. This would make it illegal and would like to see the problem corrected properly. I was told that the 2001 valve covers and up corrected this problem.*ak

I have a 2000 ford mustang v6, and i have an ongoing problem that the dealer (magic ford, in valencia ca its been in the dealer four times) cant fix and cant find out whats wrong with the car. Whenever i drove the car and it gets hot and when i shut off the engine and try restarting the car, and the car would not start, i have to wait until the engine cool off, then the car would start, it happened to me when i stopped at the grocery store, and try starting the car and it would not start, same thing when i stopped at the gasoline station, i have to wait until it gets cool off before the would start again. Here are the history of the ongoing problem, the first time i took the car to the dealer when it was still under the warranty, the dealer told me that they dont know the problem because the computer would not give out any code, so they cant fix the car, but they know that the car would not start. Second time i brought the car to the dealer, they found out that it was the key, and the ignition, so they have to reprogram the key to send signal to the ignition, (i have to pay because it was out of the warranty, when they could have fixed the problem in the first time.) third time i took the car to the dealer they said the fuel pump was loose and the battery cable was loose (i dont think so) a week later, fourth time i took the car back, still doesnt know whats wrong with the car, its been in the dealer for 3 days now. Clutch froze one morning after a very cold sub-zero night. Upon starting vehicle with clutch partially engaged, clutch burned. Then fell out of 4th gear while traveling at 40 mph. Dealer claims it is a wear item and bad driving resulted in pressure plates being unusually worn, a problem with the linkage was also noted but not assessed as contributing to the worn plates. Customer contends the linkage failed and caused continuous rubbing of pressure plates inside transmission ultimately leading to failure, and should be addressed by manufacturer. Premature wear of the plates is most likely linked to the failure in the linkage and the failure of the self adjusting clutch to in effect, self adjust when the pedal is pulled up and pushed down as recommended in the manual. Suspect this may also be a problem with the parts original to vehicle. Ts

I have been having a problem with my safety belt harness for several months now. I feel this is a safety hazard. When i start to latch my seat belt on the drivers side it will twist and i have to get out of the car and help it retracked. Sometimes it won't retrack properly and i have to wear it as is. When the belt isn't like it should be and if i apply my brakes to suddenly stop it won't catch like a seat belt is supposed to. I made an appointment on 12/18/2001 to have this problem fix and the dealership said it was checked and was found to be in normal operation. My car did not do this until a couple of months ago. I know this is not normal and i feel it is a major safety hazzard. I am a faithful seatbelt wearer and i feel very uncomfortable wearing this one. I was driving a mustang on an ice road when i lost control of the car and hit a big tree that was on a ditch. I hit the tree with the front of the car. The airbags did not deploy which caused my head to hit something and i was bleeding real bad and now i have a big scar on my forehead. *ak

Vehicle was serviced, replaced idle air control valve, reducing intensity and frequency of problem, not correcting it. Car has been taken in for service three seperate times, twice they could find nothing wrong with the vehicle. Upon consulting with other 2000 mustang gt owners, it is common problem. Some vehicles are still stalling heavily upon deceleration. If vehicle stalls, power brakes and steering are lost without warning, possible causing an accident. I am encouraging others with same problem to report to nhsta. This problem was reported to ford consumer relations today, 5/10/01. This problem occurs on 99-2000 mustang gt with manual transmission.

She was clipped on the left rear quarter panel which spun her around causing a second suv to impact the drivers door pushing her and flipping her until she impacted a cement barrier between opposite traveled lanes. The impact at the barrier was stong enough that it pushed the radiator aginst the motor and the motor toward the firewall. Fortunately she was not seriously injured and the air bags were not needed, but what if that cement barrier had not been there and she would have skidded into oncoming traffic where the air bags would have been a contributing factor in saving her life? *ak
