• Recall 235087 [USA]: A rearview camera that does not properly display an image can reduce the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash.
  Kia america, inc. (kia) is recalling certain 2022-2023 sorento, sorento hybrid, and sorento plug-in hybrid (phev) vehicles. The mounting clips for the rearview camera may break, which can cause the rearview camera image not to appear properly on the display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard number 111, "rear visibility."

  Kia motors, inc. (kia) is recalling certain 2021-2022 sorento and 2021-2023 k5 vehicles. The vehicle's "fail-safe" limited-mobility drive mode may be impaired, when prompted by a transmission oil pump malfunction, which can result in a complete loss of drive power.

(kia) is recalling certain 2016-2022 sorento, 2021-2022 sorento hybrid (hev), 2022-2023 sorento plug-in hybrid (phev), and 2017-2022 sportage vehicles equipped with a tow hitch harness installed as original equipment, or purchased as an accessory through a kia dealership. Debris and moisture accumulation on the tow hitch harness module printed circuit board (pcb) may cause an electrical short, which can result in a fire.

• Recall 2022102 [Canada]: Seats and restraints
  Issue: on certain vehicles, there may be a problem with the front seat belt pretensioners. As a result, the driver and/or passenger seat belt pretensioners could explode in a crash. If this happens, small pieces of metal could hit people in the vehicle. Note: this recall only affects sorento hybrid (hev) and sorento plug-in hybrid (phev) models. Safety risk: a seat belt pretensioner that explodes could create a risk of injury. Corrective action: kia will notify owners by mail and instruct you to bring your vehicle to a dealer to replace the driver's and/or passenger's front seat belt pretensioners, as necessary.

• Pedestrian alert sounds investigation # DP22005

  Nhtsa received a petition on or about july 18, 2022, requesting that federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) 141 be applied to all electric and hybrid vehicles operating in the united states. The petition can be reviewed at nhtsa.Gov under odi number 11486072. Fmvss 141 establishes performance requirements for pedestrian alert sounds for motor vehicles. The standard applies to hybrid and electric vehicles that have a gross vehicle weight rating of 4,536 kg or less or are defined as low-speed vehicles. The standard became fully applicable to all such vehicles manufactured on or after march 1, 2021.On january 27, 2023, nhtsa opened defect petition (dp) 22-005 to evaluate the subject matter described in the petition. On june 24, 2023 and as supplemented on june 25, 2023, the petitioner notified nhtsa he was withdrawing his petition. The petitioner indicated that, based on his review of data, there is no justification for asserting potential benefits that could be derived from actions sought by my petition. Based on the petitioners withdrawal, dp22-005 is closed. Closure of this dp does not represent a determination by nhtsa regarding the subject matter of the petition.

• Seat belt pretensioners may rupture investigation # RQ22003

  The office of defects investigation (odi) is opening this recall query (rq) on model year (my) 2020-2022 hyundai/kia vehicles based on allegations of seatbelt pretensioners that may rupture and/or explode. Odi learned that samsong is the supplier of the pretensioners and in the event a pretensioner defectively ruptures, it can release shrapnel resulting in abrasions or other injuries. This investigation will initially incorporate my 2021 hyundai elantra/elantra hev; my 2021 hyundai venue vehicles; my 2021 genesis gv80; my 2022 genesis gv70 vehicles; my 2020-2021 hyundai accent vehicles; my 2022 hyundai elantra/elantra hev vehicles; my 2022 kia sorento hybrid/sorento phev vehicles; my 2021-2022 hyundai elantra vehicles; and my 2020 hyundai accent vehicles. Additionally, odi may expand the scope of the subject population during the investigation, if needed.Odi is aware of 3 separate incidents exhibiting allegations of faulty seatbelt pretensioners. In all three incidents, the driver-side seat belt pretensioner deployed abnormally, causing metal fragments to enter the rear cabin resulting in injuries to the rear occupants. Currently the failure mechanism and contributing factors remain unclear to odi.From october 14, 2021 to april 1, 2022, hyundai and kia have issued five separate recalls concerning pretensioner ruptures (21v-796, 22v-069, 22v-123, 22v-127 and 22v-218). Due to the serious nature of the failures and multiple safety recalls issued, odi has opened this recall query to better understand the scope and remedy of the recalls issued to date.
