Ford is recalling 123,632 my 2007-2008 expedition and lincoln navigator vehicles. On certain vehicles, the door handle housing embossment retaining the bottom of the interior door handle spring on all side doors may fracture during normal usage, resulting in insufficient spring force to return the handle to the fully closed position. Under certain conditions, this may cause the door latch to open during a side impact crash, which could result in increased risk of fatality or injury to an adjacent occupant. Correction: dealers will replace the interior side door handle springs with updated versions.

Known Recall Investigations
  • Tire valve cracking investigation as of 20081014

On october 14, 2008, odi opened pe08-060 to investigate allegations of cracked and leaking snap-in tire valves in model year (my) 2007 vehicles manufactured by ford motor company. The valves were supplied to ford by topseal auto-parts, a subsidiary of the shanghai baolong automotive corporation in china.Valves made by topseal for aftermarket sale were the subject of two recent safety recalls by tech international (08t-018) and dill air controls (08t-028), the latter of which was investigated by odi in pe08-036 and ea08-022.The defect conditions addressed by the aftermarket tire valve recalls both involved inadequate resistance to ozone cracking due to issues with the supply of anti-ozonant chemicals to topseal for a period from july to mid-november 2006.The aftermarket valves were compounded with a blend of epdm and natural rubber, using a relatively low percentage of epdm (epdm provides inherent resistance to ozone cracking).Hence, the need for anti-ozonant chemicals and the problems with cracking when those chemicals were missing or out of specification in some lots of valves. Both recall campaigns involved inspection programs to identify and replace valves with visible surface cracking.Although the topseal valves supplied to ford also appear to have been affected by the anti-ozonant supply issues in mid to late-2006, ford indicated that its valves were made at a different topseal production line and were compounded with a higher percentage of epdm rubber to meet more stringent specifications from ford.Odis analysis of complaint and warranty data provided by ford showed that problems with cracked tire valves were significantly higher for my 2007 vehicles produced from december 2006 through march 2007.Ford responded by implementing changes in its material specifications for snap-in rubber tire valves and also increasing the quality and acceptance standards for valves imported for use in its vehicles. While the complaint and warranty claim rates are elevated for subject vehicles produced from december 2006 through march 2007, the rates of leaking valves are well below one percent of production for each of the peak months for all of the affected models.A substantial majority of the subject vehicles are equipped with tire pressure monitoring systems (tpms) which warn the driver when any tire pressures drops below 25 percent of recommended inflation pressure. As outlined in a letter to odi dated april 6, 2009, ford has agreed to send letters to owners of certain my 2007 and 2008 ford, lincoln and mercury vehicles to provide information about the cracking concern. Letters will be sent to owners of vehicles built from november 2006 through may 2007.Owners can opt for a free dealer inspection.Valves exhibiting surface cracks or air leakage related to ozone attack will be replaced by ford under its normal warranty terms.Ford expects to send the letter by approximately mid-may 2009. Based on the use of tpms in the majority of subject vehicles and the relatively low rates of repairs associated with leaking valves and resultant tire damage, odi believes that the actions ford has agreed to take will provide effective and expeditious resolution for vehicles that were built during the period when valves with inadequate resistance to ozone cracking were most likely to have been used in vehicle production.Further investigation of this matter would not be an efficient allocation of agency resources.Accordingly, this investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist. The agency will continue to monitor complaints and other information relating to the alleged defect in the subject vehicles and take further action in the future if warranted.

Factory chrome painted wheels peeling caused tire blowout on the highway. The chrome separates from the aluminum wheel and the tire starts to lose air or in my case blow out. This is a huge safety risk and there's not anything i'm able to do. This is happening with many other lincoln vehicles that have chrome painted wheels from 2007 to 2014. Lincoln has no answers for me and suggest i order factory wheels. New factory wheels will just start peeling again.

Vehicle had complete brake failure 5 times during normal operations. Vehicle was serviced by ford dealership and recommended brake repairs and/or unable to reproduce. Upon last time, technician found a ford service bulletin that covered other similar models and years having exact same problem. They replaced the traction control module, but stated that it was a voluntary replacement. Losing brakes on a 6,000 pound car going 30mph is a recipe for serious death or injury. This component should be recalled. The car has full paperwork from previous brake repairs, previous request for brake repairs and the current replacement of the traction control module black box. There are other car owners online that have experienced the same issue including several that won lemon law lawsuits. Lincoln refuses to acknowledge the faulty component and states that the replacement was customer requested and voluntary with no concern that their vehicle loses brakes. Discussions with the lincoln "concierge" customer service are recorded. Failures happened when car was traveling 30mph and braking on a downhill slope. Technician suggested that during such a brake failure to turn off the traction control which is an unreasonable request. The company does not seem to be taking the loss of brakes that could result in death or injury seriously.

The suv got a check engine light and wrench symbol(power train) and began to jerk after stops at red lights or stop signs while heading to the expressway. It lost power completely, while in motion and nearly caused an accident on the belt pkwy. I had the gas pedal fully pressed down and couldn't accelerate suddenly. I had to drive with on foot on the brake and the other on the gas to keep control of the suv and was afraid if be rear ended or worst at high speed. I got off at the nearest exit on the way home and shut it off. I let it rest a few minutes and cut back on and it drove like normal with low rpm's and a constant shuttering or pinging feeling and sound. I brought the suv to jamaica ny lincoln/ford service center who took the suv for close to 1 month and gave it back stating "it needs a throttle body". Nothing else is wrong with it. It's not a transmission issue, or electronical issue its the engine. They also said alot of ford vehicles have had the same issues and it was a faulty throttle body. I've changed this suv's engine, tranny, converters, spark plugs, coils, etc etc etc. The service records from purchase date, year to date are so long it's stunning! Every 90 days it has had to be serviced for some reason or another. I found my self out of it for 1 month every quarter of a year. That's ridiculous!!! Lincoln/ford hasn't done much to help me and i've purchased several vehicles from the same dealership. Smh. I've went to private mechanics who believe it's the tranny again, and some lean years the throttle body unit. Nobody can even give me an exact answer as to what it is and a solution to my suv nightmare! I've already wasted $500.00. Anyway you can assist me or help me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for listening.

While driving on the highway the brakes were applied to slow the vehicle. When the brake pedal was depressed, a loud grinding noise and pedal shudder was felt. Brake power diminished, and the anti-skid light illuminated. Once off the pedal, the car coasted for a few seconds. The brake was applied, and the system went back to normal. Ford is unable to find an issue with the system or duplicate the event. Abs was not engaged in this situation. Gradual brake pedal pressure was applied to slow the vehicle, not come to abrupt stop. However, the car was unable to slow due to the malfunction.

2008 lincoln navigator sometimes has no brakes. Have already had one accident because of this. Took the navigator in to the dealership and they checked it out and said there was nothing wrong. Wrote ford a letter and they replied "the circumstances which you outlined concerning your navigator, have been given careful consideration. Ford motor company considers the satisfaction of its owners to be one of our most important objectives. We commit very substantial resources and effort in a sincere attempt to resolve the concerns of our owners. However, limits must be placed on those efforts. Although we regrest not being able to meet your expectations, our review indicates that the information provided by your dealer is appropriate.
