• Recall 63309 [USA]: Seizure of the bearings can cause wheel separation or wheel end fire.
  On certain heavytrucks equipped with truck hub units manufactured by skf exclusively for use on arvinmeritor's ff98x series non-drive steer axles, the hub unit bearings can wear prematurely.
  dealers will replace all front axle hubs. Owner notification began on oactober 14, 2003. Customers will be informed of parts availability by october 3, 2003. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact mack at 610-709-3337.

• Recall 8469 [USA]: The headlight assemblies do not meet the requirements of the standard.
  Vehicle description: certain heavy duty trucks fail to comply with requirements of fmvss no. 108, "lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment." the headlamp assemblies have the bulb identification for the low and high beam reversed on the front lens.

• Recall 2003314 [Canada]: Suspension
  On certain vehicles, a manufacturing defect in the unitized hub assemblies could result in premature spalling of the front wheel bearings, which in turn could lead to eventual breakdown of the bearing, possible front wheel separation and loss of vehicle control amidst the presence of warning signals such as activation of abs warning light, steering wheel vibration, brake drag, noise, and vehicle pull. Correction: dealer will replace both front hub assemblies.

• Recall 2000062 [Canada]: Lights and instruments
  Certain vehicles do not comply with the requirements of cmvss. 108 - lighting system and retroreflective devices. The headlamp assemblies have the bulb identification for the low and high beam reversed on the front lens. Correction: adhesive labels will be installed on the left hand and right hand headlamp buckets. Labels and installation instructions will be mailed directly to vehicle owners.

  The companies involved in this matter are: skf (hub mfr), arvinmeritor (front axle mfr), and mack (manufacturer of class viiitractor/trucks).Skf identified manufacturing defects for specific build dates on front axle hub and bearings (wheel bearings) supplied to arvinmeritor.As a result, arvinmeritor notified mack of axles supplied with possible defective front hub assemblies.As a result of that notification, 998 trucks are being recalled by mack for defective front axle wheel bearings which may fail in such a way that a wheel separation or wheel bearing fire occurs.See attached summary report for additional details.
