Electronically Controlled Suspension (ECS) Losing
Air Pressure


Tractors equipped with Electronically Controlled Suspension (ECS) may
experience an air leak in the suspension—the result of normal wear—that is
difficult to diagnose due to the behavior of the system. The ECS may
compensate for a slow or small air leak effectively enough to obscure the
source of the leak.
A commonly missed inspection point is on the inside "flop" of the
suspension air bladder. Gradual leaks may seal with contact to the horn
or anvil of the bag, making inspection more difficult with the suspension
at normal levels.
For ECS-equipped vehicles with higher mileage and/or suspected
worn air bags, the air bags should be inspected with the suspension aired
up to maximum height. This will allow examination of the greatest surface
area of the air bags, including potentially worn areas that may be
obscured at normal ride height.
