In addition, all current 2000-2004 nativa owners will also receive replacement air bag alert labels for the sun visors. This recall is expected to begin during march or april 2005.   On certain sport utility vehicles, when the fuel tank is full and the vehicle is parked facing forward on an upward slope, the fuel tank leveling valve may not maintain proper sealing in the event the fuel expands from a rise in the ambient temperature.

After a thorough check, the owner (master mechanic) disassemble the braking system to check if the booster had failed, he stated the vehicle did not have a booster. Pin in the harmonic balancer broke causing vehicle to sling a/c belt and drive belt causing harmonic balancer to seize up. Pin was replaced. I was pulling in a sheets station and going into a parking space when my accelerator pedal stuck to the floor and when i left go the brake pedal vehicle kept moving and crashed into a red post which stopped the vehicle then i noticed the gas pedal coming back up and was able to ,put in reverse and cruise back in same parking space did damage to motor and radiator and front body my wife claims this has done it to her as well. I was driving on the freeway, when all of a sudden my abs light came on and a buzzer. I then went to apply the brakes and stop but the brake pedal would not budge. How is it safe for a vehicle with a antilock brake malfunction to take out the brake system completely? I have contact mitsubishi and they said there is no recall!! How is this possible!?! This is very unsafe i have had the vehicle parked since the incident. I feel mitsubishi needs to pay for this and upgrade the brake system. I have researched the price and would cost me 1700.00 to have the system replaced. With no guarantee of it not doing it again. *js

I just picked up my son's vehicle from the service garage where i had just had new brakes and rotors installed for him. I was on the way to meet my husband at the grocery store but needed to drop off some letters at the outdoor mail box at the post office which was < 1/4 mile from the service garage. As i pulled up to the post office drop box, i had my foot on the brake and was going just a few miles an hour. All of a sudden the engine revved loudly and the vehicle lurched forward. I pushed harder on the brake but it wouldn't stop! Thank god there was no one in front of me or in the parking lot, so i just steered the vehicle around the lot concentrating on not hitting anything! All the while trying to brake the vehicle to a stop. It took about 10-15 seconds and the engine finally revved back down (to the normal sound) and the brakes worked and i was able to stop the vehicle. I was able to drive the car to the grocery store without another incident. This has never happened before (my son was given the vehicle at about 50,000 miles) according to my son. It was very frightening-i am so glad no one was in front of me. I just want some kind of record of this, in case something happens later. Is there any other complaints of this? *tr

I had the car towed to a near by mitsubishi dealer in marlow heights maryland only to be told that if it was the accumulator they would fixed it at no charge. However, after their review it they said it was the hydraulic brake booster and it would cost me $2500 after taking it to another mechanical shop i was told it was the accumulator and the part was $228 plus labor charges. *tr

The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where the stud was replaced. The same failure has since recurred two additional times on the rear passenger side wheel in which the studs were replaced by the same independent mechanic. In 2007 i had the brakes to my 2003 mitsubushi montero limited replaced because i felt they my truck would not stop as desired. After having the brakes replaced it appears that the problem became worse. I took my vehicle back to the dealer and they assured me that there was nothing wrong with the brakes. In dec 2007 i tried stopping in less than 3 inches of snow. My truck would not stop, i almost had an accident. When i hit the brakes it sounded and felt like the brakes were grinding or even a crunching sound. When driving in dry conditions the brakes appear to work very well but in wet or snow conditions it does not handle at all. Since then the front brakes was again replaced in nov 2008. Again on 27 jan 2009 i tried stopping in less than 2 inches of snow and the truck did not stop. I had to drive on the curb in order to stop. I was on a residential street and was driving less than 20 miles per hour. My brakes does not work in snow conditions or even in extremely wet conditions. *tr

I was driving my 2003 mitsubishi to work on february 5,2007, at 6:30 a.M. When, all at once i heard a groaning noise and the oil pressure light came on and the "engine failure" light also came on. The steering wheel became stiffened and just luckily i was close enough to an auto repair station/wrecker service to coast into. I called my boyfriend to come and take me to work,and he then called the mitsubishi "roadside service" number to tow it to the closest dealership to have it looked at and repaired. Later that day he called to see what the problem was and for the next couple days,they tried to blame us for 1. Low oil 2.Oil not changed often enough 3. "bad" oil. When we were able to prove that none of these were true-we even threatened to send the oil to have it "tested"(we use mobil 1) they said that they didn't have the oil anymore. A couple days after they changed the oil,they somehow found the oil and said that although the oil had carbon and metal shavings in it, there was not anything wrong with the oil. Each day we called to see what was going on,the service manager "a.J." would give us a run around and would say they were running the vehicle to see how it was working. They then said , after 17 days,the vehicle was ready to leave and to run it for 1,000 miles and see if the noise goes away! *jb

Head gasket failures on 2003 mitsubishi montero sport 3.5 l v6 engine. 1. No preceding event, car started idling rough when first started. Idle smoothes after a short time. 2. Right side head gasket started leaking coolant into cyl #2 at 30k miles, replaced under warranty. Left side head gasket started leaking coolant into cyl #1 at 65,600 miles. Replacement denied by manufacturer, even thought it is an obvious manufacturing defect. 3. Not yet replaced due to cost. *nm

Mitsubishi montero 2003 - brake pads have been replaced 2 times with less than 30,000 miles (1st at 19k and 2nd at 30k) on the odometer. Several near accidents have occurred after descending down hill. If you ride the brakes (keeping slight pressure applied while periodically applying more brake) when driving down a hill, this causes the rotors to heat up and then warp. Unfortunately, when the rotors get too hot braking becomes extremely difficult. The long beach mitsubishi service manager claims that the 2003 montero uses a smaller brake pad then its previous year models. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 55mph a deer was struck with the front end of the vehicle. While applying brake pressure the vehicle began to gain speed, spun around, veered off the road and rolled over four times in a ditch. The air bags did not deploy in the accident. The air bag warning light was not illuminated prior to the crash. There were three occupants in the vehicle all of which were wearing seat belts. The contact was six months pregnant and received injuries during the accident. The police were alerted and a report was filed. The vehicle was deemed totaled, but has not been inspected to determine why the airbags did not deploy. *ak

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 55mph on rough slippery roads the vehicle slid off the road. After pulling back on the road, the vehicle started fish tailing and went over a twenty foot embankment. The vehicle uprooted a tree. During this time the frontal airbags failed to deploy. Moderate head injuries were sustained by the driver. There was a police report filed. The insurance company determined the vehicle was a total loss, but has not investigated the reason for the airbag failure.

Previously reported similar problem in nov. 2004 (reference no. 10101312) fuel leakage, acceleration/power loss at critical times of highway travel. Suv is now parked due fueling system problems and unreliability. Suv was repaired at fazeli misubishi 11/2004. Even after know recall (purported) correctly vehicle experienced same problem. Suv failed again while on family vacation, loss of acceleration and power began to occur, engine began to cough and sputter (even with a full tank of gas), gas gauge and digital fuel mileage indicator malfunctioned. Suv was eventually parked at a location, while parked fuel apparently had leaked from the fuel tank or other compartment... Fire erupted while we were parked on side of (hwy 10- alabama) i was attempting to light a flare to indicate to passing motorist that we were stranded in the road. Destroyed by the flames were clothing, lap top computer, medication, children toys and electronic games, and religious effects. *jb

2003 mitsubishi montero sport experiencing problems with the steering as well as the vehicle bottoming out while driving.*mr while driving the vehicle would wander all over the road and bounces when driven over small bumps in the road. The steering was very loose with 1/8 to 1/4 inches of play. There was also a thumping noise under the driver's left foot. The dealer checked the alignment and stated that everything. Dt: husband had a vehicle wreck, the car would not stop on snow. Contact felt tires were not right for climate. Had tires rotated and pressure checked regularly. Was told by manufacturer that the psi should be 35, but the door sticker indicated 29 psi. Tires did not work well in snow. Also, drivers side seat belt did not retract, and the back seat on passenger's side won't fold forward. Had back seat repaired once. *ak

I have a brand new 2003 mitsubishi montero sport with a 3.0 engine. The cam shaft came apart and the mitsubishi rep refuse to authorize the repair. This vehicle is still under the new car warranty. Consumer contacted manufacturer, and was told to contact nearest dealer for service on recall. When dealer was contacted, they referred him back to the manufacturer. When consumer contacted the manufacturer he was told to call back, they again referred consumer to dealer. As a result, consumer still did not have vehicle repaired. *ak

While driving at any speed vehicle swerved in different directions. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic determined that the rear axles broke and needed to be replaced. *ak

Important safety recall notification: sr-04-008 *bf the consumer took his vehicle in for service on the recall issue and was told it could not be serviced at the original dealership location but had to be taken two hours away to an unrelated dealership for service at the owners expense and time. Recall issue deals with the fuel tank leveling valve not maintaining proper sealing. Fuel may leak to the ground when tank is on full. The consumer stated that the front windshield wiper/washer was not operating on the driver side. *jb

The owner smelled gasoline fuel when operating vehicle and starting it one last time, the engine compartment burst into flames. This loss was investigated by superior investigations 800-779-2858. The fuel rail pressure valve was loose, and caused fuel to leak and start a fire.*ak

While driving 40 mph consumer heard a loud noise coming from the rear. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and pulled over. Consumer noticed that the rear right window broke. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determinedthat heat caused the window to break. *ak

The vehicle stalled while slowing down for a stop light. Although the vehicle is in drive it sometimes rolls backwards as if it is in neutral. *ak *nm

Due to the location of drivers seat belt attach point and the seatback adjustment handle the seat belt gets caught up on the handle, causing the seat back to release while driving. I contacted the dealer and the manufacturer and they replaced my seat even though it had the exact same desing. The seat belt continues to release the back of the seat if i forget to pull the seatbelt off of the handle.*ak

Hesitation and stalling between 0-45 mph at slightly above 3/4 full tank of gas. Vehicle leaks substantial quantity of fuel when parked on incline at slightly above 3/4 tank of gas. In addition, this vehicle was not filling properly at the gas pump (pump continually shut off as if tank were full even though it was not). These same problem occurred with our 2002 montero which was returned to mitsubishi through the lemon law. These problems began at 26,000 miles, problems occurred with other vehicle starting at 9,000 miles. In the 2003, they have replaced the rollover valve (cracked). *la

Brake rotors and pads replaced every 3,000-4,000 miles. Dealer claimed it was driver's abuse that caused premature wear of brake rotors/pads. Consumer was furious. Currently, after 4,000 miles. Brakes were shot.*ak

By 20,000 miles the truck's front brake rotors were so out of round that the truck is very difficult to control durring braking. The dealer reports that the braking system, and more importantly the brake pads are not covered under the new car warrenty. This is rediculous. I have never needed to have a truck's braking system serviced before 80,000 miles.*ak

While driving at any speed dashboard lights reflected on the external rear view mirror at night. Consumer considered the reflection very distracting while driving. *ak speedometer reflects off driver side window and onto the exterior rear view mirror. *la

While driving at any speed and turning the steering wheel to the left or right the vehicle always swayed to the right. The dealer replaced many parts but the problem is still occurring. *ak the vehicle also made noise while driving over bumps and while making turns. While driving the front passenger axle and wheel hub broke. The 4x4 hi light was flashing. The dealer replaced the shifter switch. *nlm

I bought the truck on a cloudy day. When the sun hit it, it had swirl marks burnt into it from where it was buffed at the factory. When turned in they buffed it again. Now that it rained it still shows all. Another problem is the transmission. It has severe lag and sometimes won't shift at all. *jb

2nd timeinto daeler for transmission problems. Will have problems shifting then the check engine light comes on. First time dealer unsure of the cause or how to fix had vehicle in shop almost 2 weeks. 2nd time, dealer has had vehicle over 2 weeks and still not fixed ,said could be 1 of 3 things. They have replaced 2 of the 3 so still have 1 to go and i guess i will be out of the vehicle another week for a total of 3 weeks if this fixes the problem.First incident was around 3000 miles second incident at 16000 miles.

Vehicle sways, wonders on the road and is uncontrollable. Also, it feels as though something is loose under the front end. I have taken this vehicle to the dealer on numerous occasions, and i've been told by the mechanic that he feels exactly that which i am describing but there is nothing wrong and that other vehicles were driven and that they too did the same thing. This is a very dangerous obstacle to have control of a motor vehicle. *la

The license plate lights went out. The bulbs were good therefore it's probable that the failure was due to a relay defect. The horn was also defective. The horn would blow but wouldn't stop.
