  • Recall 45593 [USA]: Fuel may leak, possibly resulting in a fire.
    Certain delphi fuel pressure regulators, p/nos. FP10020-11b1, fP10026-11b1, and fP10027-11b1, sold after january 9, 2007, as aftermarket equipment for various passenger vehicles listed above. The universal pressure regulators (upr) were produced without an o'ring and retainer.
    delphi will notify owners and replace the upr free of charge. The recall began on april 23, 2007. Owners can contact delphi at 877-411-8770.
    this recall only pertains to aftermarket delphi fuel pressure regulators and has no relation to any original equipment installed by general motors.Customers may contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty: 1-800-424-9153); or go to http://www.Safercar.Gov.

  • Recall 64443 [USA]: If this occurs, the pinion shaft can be forced upward during left turns and back down as the steering wheel is moved back and to the right. if the pinion shaft moves further, the driver will need to exert more effort to turn the steering wheel, similar to a vehicle without power assisted steering. if the pinion shaft moves even further, the driver will require much higher effort to turn left and may not be able to turn the wheel as much as intended. with the maximum pinion shaft movement, which requires internal gear component damage, the driver can encounter high resistance to turning left, followed by unintended power assist to the right. in any of these conditions, a crash could occur.
    Certain passenger vehicles have lower pinion bearings in the power rack and pinion assembly in which the retainer tabs were not crimped properly. These retainers could fail and permit the ball bearings to escape.
    dealers will install a new lower pinion bearing unless inspect of the existing bearing indicates that replacement of the gear assembly is necessary. Owner notification began on february 5, 2004.   • Recall 7566 [USA]: If the consumer is too close to an inflating air bag, serious injuries could occur.
    Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. Corrosion of the air bag inflator's internal wiring, which can occur over time, could cause the inadvertent deployment of the driver's air bag. This deployment could occur during vehicle start-up, while the vehicle is parked or idling, or while in operation.
    dealers will replace the inflators on these air bags.

  • Recall 2003336 [Canada]: Steering
    On certain vehicles, the lower pinion bearings retainer tabs were not crimped properly. These retainers may fail and permit the ball bearings to escape. If the problem were to occur, the driver would have to exert more effort to turn the steering wheel. Correction: dealers are to inspect the condition of the lower bearing, and replace the lower pinion bearing or the rack and pinion steering gear assembly, if necessary. This is an extension of recall 02-199

  • Recall 2000141 [Canada]: Seats and restraints
    Certain vehicles could experience inadvertent or non-crash driver front air bag deployment. This deployment could occur during vehicle startup, while the vehicle is parked or idling, or while in operation. Should the air bag deploy when the driver is up against or very close to the air bag, serious injuries could be sustained. Correction: dealers will replace the driver side air bag module.

  • Recall 1999083 [Canada]: Engine
    On certain vehicles, the spark plug wires may be causing the malfunction indicator lamp (mil) to be illuminated, as well as causing rough idle and poor performance. These conditions may be due to a dielectric breakdown of the plastic extender piece at the boot joint of the spark plug wire. Correction: dealers will replace all six spark plug wires with a new service spark plug wire assembly kit that is designed to be robust against dielectric breakdown failures.

  • Power rack and pinion steering failure investigation as of 20030915

    Gms letter to nhtsa dated december 11, 2003, expands its original recall (nhtsa 02v286) to include certain w-body vehicles: 96-97 olds cutlass supreme; 98 olds intrigue; 97-98 olds cutlass; 97-98 chevy lumina, monte carlo and malibu; 96 pontiac grand prix; and 96-98 buick regal.The number of vehicles recalled is 750,283.Gm determined that failure of the rack and pinion is related to damage of the lower pinion bearing and the level of the pinion bearing pre-load spring force.Gm states, "higher rack pre-load spring force (133 lb.) is the design characteristic most closely associated with higher bearing damage rates in most of the vehicle applications that used the general bearing company (gbc) bearing."all of the vehicles covered in the expanded recall have the 133 lb spring force.The 96 lumina/monte carlo and 97-98 century w-body vehicles included in this investigation utilize a lower spring force and are not included in the recall.

1996 oldsmobile cutlass supreme, the rear strut mount brackets are bad, everyone we have spoken to have had them break even those who have purchased there vehicles new have said the brackets failed and had to be replaced within the first year of purchase. If the bracket breaks it can lead the driver to wreck or even the strut being propelled through the back seat. The bolts holding the brackets in place sheered off. We do have the original bracket. *tr

I was accelerating to make a lane change while on the freeway (going about 60-63 mph) in heavy traffic (55-58 mph) and when i removed my foot from the accelerator pedal the car kept accelerating. I tried feathering the brake pedal and got very little slow down so began to brake with both feet but with little effect. Car was vibrating and i had to keep both hands on steering wheel to try and maintain control of vehicle and also get maximum leverage on floor brake. I managed to maneuver the car to an off ramp, drove over the on-off ramp divider into a field. At this point i applied the emergency brake and the car began fishtailing and almost flipped over. I headed towards a grassy incline and this finally stopped the car at which point i turned off the engine. I observed the accelerator pedal was limp on the floor of the car. A person driving behind me stopped to call state patrol and confirm that he witnessed my brake lights on but only the left rear tire braking. The state trooper confirmed this by observing a single tire skid mark on the off-ramp. Accelerator throttle cable replaced. *tr

Also, the brake pedal went to the floorboard, and stopping distance was increased. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop who performed a diagnostic, but could not determine the problem. The brake pads were replaced, but the problem recurred 5 months later while traveling 30 mph. The dealership was contacted, but never returned a call. The contact expressed concern that the abs system was defective, and could a pose serious risk if the problem recurred in heavy traffic.

Within a few minutes the smoke went away and the vehicle was restarted. A few moments later the vehicle was on fire under the hood. Smoke filled the vehicle, the doors would not unlock, and the windows would not roll down. The occupant climbed to the back seat and tried to kick the windows out. Someone saw the vehicle on fire and extinguished the fire. Injuries were sustained, the vehicle was totaled. The vehicle has not been inspected. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the oxygen sensor. The vehicle ran fine for a while then the check engine light illuminated again. The dealer replaced another sensor. Eventually the vehicle's engine overheated which resulted in engine damage. This failure occurred under 100,000 miles . The fuel gauge never gave the actual fuel tank reading. The fuel needle would fluctuate while the vehicle was being driven at various speed. Many batteries have been replaced in the vehicle because they fail unexpectedly. The battery indicator never illuminated indicating there was a problem. *nm

I was driving across town when i noticed my engine was overheating. I was right down the street from my mechanic, so i stopped there. What was left of my coolant emptied out onto the ground as a i watched. My coolant intake gaskethad given out. The repair guy told me after he fixed it that it had virtually disappeared at some places. He also called me at some point to inform me that my fuel line had given out and was leaking. Thankfully the shop was able to fix everything quickly, as i use my car for commuting to college and work.

Was driving the car noticed it was not warming up checked anti freeze and noticed it was low in radiator and in overflow container. Added anti freeze looked to see if had been leaking at hoses or was after adding anti freeze and it did not appear to have been leaking at any hoses or from radiator. Started car did not run right shut engine off pulled dipstick and found oil to be discolored. Called around and found that this year engine made by general motors is known to blow the intake manifold gaskets and that this exact car had already been repaired for this same problem prior to my purchasing this car 2 years ago. Old engine is available. Have estimated mileage until it is towed back home. This car was originally owned by my aunt and uncle was sold to my mom joan roodbergen she never drove it and i purchased it from them in october of 2002. I knew the intake manifold had already failed once and was repaired by mullins auto service. *jb

We got a low coolant light on our dashboard, and found the coolant resevoir to be completely empty. This was less than 3k miles since the coolant system was serviced - drained, refilled, and new radiator hoses installed. After refilling, we found a small coolant leak on the ground under the engine (when parked on a dry surface indoors - normally the car is in the driveway, where snow, ice, and rain may have masked a long-time small leak). On 3/3/03, our local midas repair shop found that the intake manifold gasket was failing, causing the leak. It was replaced (along with thermostat and some other gaskets, which were little additional expense), at a cost of over $900. Note that this is the vehicle primarily used by my (pregnant) wife and our 2 year old son, and that i myself work about 30 miles from home, so we were headed for incovenience at best, disaster at worst. I have to keep the dome bulb out of the ceiling at all times, otherwise the battery will run down. The dome light it out as i write this comment and has been out for ove a month. There is no dialogue with jimmy hicks, the service manager at pohanka. He simple will not return phone calls. I call 3 times in one week, he did not call back. Both rear door locks fail randomly. They may work for several weeks. When dissassembled, there is nothing mechanically that has failed. On the first ocassion, the rod from the left rear door lock lever had fallen from the bellcrank. That was several months ago. This time however, that was checked and it was in its proper location. When the door locks malfunction, there is no way to open the doors either from the inside or outside. After several attemps, the locks begin to work and the doors can be opened. When the locks move, they do move through their normal movement range, in other words they move the correct bellcrank the proper amount of travel. This is a very serious safety concern as small children are in the back seat, the failure mode is purely random, and in case of fire there would be absolutely no way to open the rear doors.
