Number:__FS-2014-02 Date:__April 24, 2014 Model: All Buses With Aeroquip FC-300 Coolant Hoses Subject: Approved: Robert L. Birdwell, Executive Director Quality Control & Field Service Effects Of Coolant With O.A.T. On FC-300 Hoses Eaton Aeroquip has recently determined that newer coolants containing OAT (organic acid technology), are not compatible with their FC300 hose material. Coolants containing OAT may lead to the breakdown of the inner liner of the FC300 hose possibly resulting in leaks, blockage of the hose or contamination of the cooling system. FIELD SERVICE BULLETIN Although OAT coolant was not originally provided by Gillig LLC in your buses, if the coolant has been changed to one containing OAT it is recommended that you replace all FC300 coolant hoses with FC186 hoses which have a Teflon inner tube construction and is approved by Eaton for all Ethylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol and Glycerin coolants including those with OAT. The hoses which should be replaced are the dearation hoses connecting to the surge tank and the coolant filter supply and return hoses. Refer to Section 1 in your parts manual to identify these hoses (examples are provided below for reference) and contact Gillig LLC parts department to determine appropriate replacement hoses. Silicone hoses are not affected by OAT and do not require replacement.
