SITUATION:
The tailgate interior trim panel may become detached from the tailgate during closing.
CAUSE:
This may be caused by the clips not being fully engaged during assembly.
ACTION:
Should a customer express this concern, follow the Workshop Procedure below.

WORKSHOP PROCEDURE:

Remove the tailgate trim panel (see TOPIx Workshop Manual section 501-05: Interior
Trim and Ornamentation).
Discard the tailgate grab handle retaining screws.

Check the alignment of the tailgate (see TOPIx Workshop Manual section 501-26:
Body Repairs - Vehicle Specific Information and Tolerance Checks - Tailgate
Alignment).

If the tailgate does not require alignment, go to Step 3.

If the tailgate does require alignment, complete the tailgate alignment
procedure.

Once complete, go to Step 3.

Install the 3 new tailgate trim panel clips to the tailgate.

Adjust the position of the new tailgate clip as shown.

Adjust the position of the new tailgate clips as shown.

Remove and discard the 2 plastic nut inserts.

Install the 2 new plastic nut inserts.

CAUTION:
Do not use impact force to install the tailgate trim panel.
NOTE:
The 9 new tailgate trim panel clips must be installed into the tailgate in the
order shown.

Install the tailgate trim panel (see TOPIx Workshop Manual section 501-05: Interior
Trim and Ornamentation).
Make sure the tailgate trim panel is installed correctly with no visible
gaps around the edge.

Make sure the correct screws are used on installation of the tailgate grab
handle.

Torque: 7 Nm

Install the tailgate grab handle trim cover.

Make sure the tailgate trim panel is installed correctly with no visible gaps around the
edge.
