INTRODUCTION
This service bulletin provides an overview of works to be performed during prolonged vehicle
standstill.
CHECK VOLTAGE OF 24V ELECTRICAL SYSTEM BATTERIES
We recommend a 3-weekly battery voltage check. Eventually, you can use a trickle charger to
keep your 24V electrical system batteries in optimal condition.
The 24V electrical system batteries of a stored vehicle lose charge due to a phenomenon called
“self-discharge”. This self-discharge proceeds faster at extreme ambient temperatures. After one
month without recharging for instance, the charge can drop to about 50% of the normal value. An
insufficient state of charge over a longer period of time causes an irreparable loss of capacity. To
prevent early battery wear and failure, charge the batteries regularly.
MOVE THE VEHICLE REGULARLY
The vehicle must be moved regularly to avoid permanent deformation (flat sides) of the lower part
of tires. When the tires remain in the same position for a long time, the weight of the vehicle
always presses at the same place. This deforms the tires Van Hool also recommends increasing
the recommended tire inflation pressure by 0,5 bar (7 psi) in the event of prolonged standstill.
TAKE A RIDE OCCASIONALLY
Take an occasional trip to bring the engine to operating temperature. Make sure that the climate
control is on and that all functionalities (heating, cooling, ventilating) are run through by changing
the setting temperature. Among other things, this prevents dehydration of the crankshaft seal of the
refrigerant compressor, since it rotates little or not at all.
