Special Service Message
NOTE: A Special Service Message is a formal communication issued by Jaguar and carries the same
importance of a Technical Service Bulletin. An SSM is a quick method of communicating "Need To
Know" information to the technical service community. SSM's may be issued in advance of a technical
bulletin or may be the only communication on a given topic. All information contained in Jaguar
technical communications are intended for use by trained, professional technicians with the knowledge,
tools, and equipment required to complete the procedure correctly and safely. It informs the
Technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or provides information that could assist in
correct vehicle and diagnostic service.

Symptom : 404000 Fuel System Concerns
Content : Issue: Fuel system components may not be completely
drained of fuel before disposal, or when the part is returned
through the warranty process.
Cause: After the fuel system component has been
replaced, the fuel may not have been completely drained
from the removed part.
Action: After replacement of a fuel system component (for
example fuel pipes, pumps, fuel tank, and any other related
parts) make sure the fuel has been correctly and completely
drained and disposed of, in line with the warranty policy and
procedures manual.
Failure to drain the fuel may result in the warranty claim
being rejected.
Make sure all local laws and environmental regulations are
followed when working on vehicle fuel systems and
components, and when draining and disposing of fuel.
