APPLIED VEHICLES: 2019-2023 Altima (L34) 2018-2023 Kicks (P15) 2018-2023 LEAF (ZE1) 2020-2023 Sentra (B18) 2020-2023 Versa (N18) IF YOU CONFIRM The horn on an APPLIED VEHICLE is inoperative. ACTION Inspect the horn pad for a pinched ground wire. If a pinched ground wire is found, replace the high and low horns. IMPORTANT: The purpose of ACTION (above) is to give you a quick idea of the work you will be performing. You MUST closely follow the entire SERVICE PROCEDURE as it contains information that is essential to successfully completing this repair. Bulletins are intended for use by qualified technicians, not 'do-it-yourselfers'. Qualified technicians are properly trained individuals who have the equipment, tools, safety instruction, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. NOTE: If you believe that a described condition may apply to a particular vehicle, DO NOT assume that it does. See your Nissan dealer to determine if this applies to your vehicle. 1/7 REQUIRED SPECIAL TOOL Airbag Release Tool – J-52551 (New part number: NI-52551) Figure 1 Additional tools may be purchased from Tech•Mate online: www.techmatetools.com, or by phone: 1-833-397-3493. Write down the radio settings. Presets 1 2 3 4 5 6 AM FM 1 FM 2 SAT 1 SAT 2 Bass 2. Treble Balance Fade Speed Sen. Vol. Open the hood and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Verify the ignition is OFF before disconnecting the terminal. Install protective tape over the negative battery terminal. Wait a minimum of 3 minutes before proceeding, so that the air bag diagnosis unit may fully discharge any remaining electricity. To prevent damage to the ACC power supply, do not operate the vehicle, such as locking/unlocking or opening/closing the doors within the 3-minute waiting period. To prevent the risk of personal injury or damage to the vehicle, verify the ignition switch is OFF and a minimum of 3 minutes has elapsed since the negative battery terminal was disconnected, before proceeding to step 3. 3. Locate the two (2) access holes on the back of the steering wheel and the one (1) access hole on the bottom of the steering wheel (Figure 2). A. Right side access hole B. Left side access hole C. Bottom access hole Figure 2 3/7 NTB22-051A 4. Turn the steering wheel until the access hole (A) is visible from the top of the steering column (Figure 3). Figure 3 5. Insert the Airbag Release Tool (A), into the access hole and under the spring (1), as shown in Figure 4. Figure 4 6. Lift the spring (1) using the Airbag Release Tool (A), to disengage the spring, as shown in Figure 5. Figure 5 4/7 NTB22-051A 7. Figure 6 9. Inspect the horn ground wire for signs of pinching. If signs of a pinched ground wire are present, proceed to step 10 to replace the high and low horns. If signs of a pinched ground wire are not present, skip to step 11 on page 6 to install the driver airbag module. Horn ground wire Figure 7 10. Replace the high and low horn. Refer to the ESM: DRIVER CONTROLS > HORN > REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION – HORN: Removal and Installation 5/7 NTB22-051A 11. Install the driver airbag module in the reverse order of removal. Reconnect the negative battery terminal. 13. Perform ADDITIONAL SERVICE WHEN REMOVING 12V BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL. 14.
