Consumer Complaints for this DTC

2004 HONDA CIVIC with 37.0 miles

I recently had a problem with my Honda pilot. We took it to auto zone and had them hook it up to their diagnostics machine. The code "P1399" resulted. However, we were told that we had to contact Honda to find out what the code meant because it was a generic code that Honda puts out. I contacted the dealer and asked what the code meant, and i was told that i had to bring my vehicle down to them to put it on their machine: for $95.00. Honda has created their codes so that auto zone and other reasonably priced places can not assist Honda owners. We are forced to pay this outrageous amount because only Honda can tell us what is wrong with our vehicles. I did many hours of research on the internet and have found that this "P1399" code is quite common, as well as this kind of problem with the vehicle. The Honda pilot has an ongoing problem with the engine light and vtm light coming on around 30-40 thousand miles. The engine misfires, and the vehicle feels like it is "chugging". It seems the timing of this problem is consistent with the warranty expiring. I have read that many people have had this same problem, and that Honda is aware of the problem, yet have failed to address it. If you look at www.Honda.Org you will see the many complaints about this mechanic failure. I would like this problem to be investigated, and have Honda be accountable for the faulty parts. *nm
ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE,

2000 HONDA CR-V with 147000. miles

At approx 147,000 miles, check engine light came one. After determining it was not due to leaking gas cap, ran a diagnostic on it. It produced error codes of P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304 and P1399 (all misfire codes). Took it to a highly recommended mechanic where they also ran their own diagnostic with same error codes. The checked the valves right away because there is a known issue (defect) with the first gen crv head. Honda has admitted the problem and re-designed the head for my year model to eliminate the value problem. My heads had already been adjusted at 95k (as recommended by the Honda dealer service dept) although the recommended adjustment is at 105k miles. With mine requiring adjustment 10k miles sooner, this should be a red flag of a problem with my engine. But now there is no room for further adjustment; only solution is to replace the head with the re-designed head. In earlier years (2006) Honda was replacing at no cost through their goodwill program. They won't assist me in any way - in fact, american Honda customer service told me there was no such thing as a Honda goodwill program. I found out about the program because my dealership told me about it and that american Honda and denied my request! I had every single required maintenance service performed at our local Honda dealership; on time or early as recommended. The only time it was ever taken somewhere else was for a few oil changes and that was only because Honda couldn't work me in according to my work schedule. The reason i purchased a Honda in first place was because we were told that any Honda that was maintained per the recommended service manual should last 300-400k miles. I didn't even get half of that! Never again - no more Honda's for me.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

2000 HONDA ACCORD with 105000. miles

Engine will fire and then immediatly stall if engine is already warm. Otherwise it will run fine. A trouble code was taken from the computer (P1399) which Honda tells me does not exist for a 2000 Accord. Another Honda rep told me that the fuel pressure regulator does not read well with "winter fuels" in warmer (50-60f) weather. The warrantee on this part only goes to 80,000 miles.

1998 HONDA ACCORD

Engine is overheating. Dealership is unclear as to what is causing defect. This defect occurs randomly regardless of weather conditions. *ak Honda stated new head gaskets were needed, after repair check engine light illuminated, dealer then stated #5 cylinder was misfiriing, dealer cleaned plug, engine light illuminated again, all plugs were replaced, computer was reset, and #5 spark plug wire was replaced, engine light still illuminated, consumer had thermostat replaced and examined it finding burrs were evident on the stamping surrounding the movable bellows, a lot of shiny ridges were evident on the bellows, he ran a hot water test to see if the burrs would cause the device to remain closed, however it stuck close, consumer removed the burrs and the thermostat operated properly, on one occasion all lights went out at night due to steam from thermostat, consumer feels the radiator recovery tube was being blown off by the steam also, check engine light still illuminated and code P1399 comes up, which noone knows what the code stands for, engine runs rough.. Vehicle experienced gas gauge problems. *slc
