2015 TOYOTA TACOMA with 4434.0 miles

I was driving straight away going up a slight hill on the hwy excelling and pressing the gas pedal when the power suddenly dropped and went down to 20 mph while i pressed the gas pedal even more the engine sounded like it was revving but the speed stayed at 20 mph or less.- the check engine light, vsc & trac lights all came on. I immediately pulled over and decided to turn around and not continue up the hill. While driving on the straight away (still on the hwy) the vehicle's speed improved a little but only in spurts- going upwards to 40 mph then falling again to 20 mph at least 3 times in the 20 minute drive home. The vehicle sounded and felt like it was straining for power. All of the fluids, oils etc.. Was filled and in good standings- this vehicle is only 6 months old and has 4434 miles on it. I took the vehicle to the Toyota dealer the very next day and they found that this was a manufacturing problem. The codes P2445 and P2441 was found faulty and was replaced- in the report it was stated that the car is down, considered unsafe to drive because the vehicle may go into limp mode for this condition while driving. I am submitting a portion of the report with my personal information covered.

2015 TOYOTA 4RUNNER with 48900.0 miles

I have a 2015 4runner (vin: [xxx]) i purchased brand new. It currently has less than 50k miles on it. A few weeks ago it started periodically going into ?Limp? Mode while driving at highway speeds. My two toddlers were in the vehicle the first time this happened; i almost lost control since the ?Tractional control? Disabled concurrently. I took the vehicle to multiple mechanics who confirmed the diagnostic code P2445 (secondary air injection pump). I was shocked to hear this because the vehicle is relatively new and exceptionally well maintained. I looked online and the failure of this component appears to be a systemic issue with Toyota 4runners and tacomas. The fact that this component failed after a short duration in such a sudden and violent way is very dangerous. I submitted a formal complaint to Toyota and they denied knowledge of this issues despite hundreds of folks reporting identical problems on their 4runners & tacomas. For a nominal fee per vehicle Toyota could fix this issue, which also has environmental implications, but instead they are being disingenuous and denying this major systemic safety hazard. 2013 TOYOTA TUNDRA with 58000.0 miles

On two different occasions i was driving my Tundra on the freeway at approx. 70 mph. My truck lost power and i almost caused accidents on both instances since i could not accelerate past 40 mph. I had to manage my way out of the freeway to a safe place. 2two diagnostics were performed and i received codes P0418, P1604, C1241, P2445, P2441. I was told by the Toyota dealership that there was a problem with a faulty secondary air injection system pump and other components related to the system and i was provided a repair cost of over $3,000 dollars. I was later informed, and i discovered through research, that Toyota had installed faulty/defective air pumps in thousands of Tundras 2013's like the one that i own. I reached out to corporate office but they stated that my vin number somehow did not "qualify" as one of the affected pickups. My Tundra only has 60k miles and i use it to commute from and to work basically. I perform routine maintenance. There is obviously a problem with a defective secondary air pump system that Toyota refuses to fix. My truck is a liability on the road and this is my only means of transportation. It looses power and the check engine light activates. Toyota recalled thousands of vehicles like mine and fixed them after they acknowledged that they had placed faulty air pump systems. My truck is a potential possible cause for an accident since it unpredictably looses power on the freeway. I have not received a solution from headquarters/corporate office to repair my truck at no price since it is affected by their faulty pumps. They did offer $750 dollars towards the cost of parts, meaning that i have to come out with over $2000k out of pocket. I need Toyota to take responsibility and fix my truck.

2012 TOYOTA TACOMA with 49442.0 miles

At less then 50k miles on the odometer and 900 miles from home my truck decided to get a check engine light and trac off light caused by codes P2440 and P2442 and P2445. Merry christmas to me. These codes put me into limp mode while on the freeway in snowy and icy conditions. I could not maintain speed with the flow of traffic as i was trying to get to the shoulder with traffic zooming all around me, dangerous and scary! Toyota wants $2000 to repair it. Internet research has shown me that it is a common problem that Toyota fails to recognize for Tacomas but has issued a tsb and extended warranties for tundras. Shame on Toyota. Now i get to endure the cost of repair after the holiday seasons and i'm sure my boss will love to hear i wont be returning to work on time.

2012 TOYOTA TACOMA with 91000.0 miles

2012 Tacoma with 91,000 miles: while leaving work and trying to accelerate onto highway the "check engine" and "trac off" lights illuminated. Vehicle went into "limp mode" and would not go faster than 35 mph. I had to quickly pull off the road as to not cause an accident. I took vehicle to mac haik Toyota and received the code P2445. I had to replace air switch valve assembly $690, air w/bra pump assembly $813, air tube gaskets $132, labor $610. Total $2063!!!! From researching, this is a known problem with 2012 Tacomas, and had previously been an issue with older tundras, which Toyota issued a tsb for. Toyota refuses to repair this under warranty (federal emissions) even though the failed part is directly tied to the emissions system! "the system is used to pump additional air into the exhaust manifold upon startup to dilute the over-rich conditions that lead to increased pollution. (how is that not an emissions related part?) the failure or warping of the one-way check valve causes hot exhaust gases to backflow into the solenoid, and melting the gaskets. This ends up blocking the sealing plate and causing it to remain in the open position. The danger is that the hot exhaust is then fed into a plastic air pump causing it to potentially melt or catch fire!" the fact that this forces the vehicle into "limp mode" is also a huge safety concern as it will not allow the vehicle to travel above 35 mph and could lead to serious accidents if traveling at high speed on the interstate or highway due to the unexpected, sudden deceleration. Failed assembly is Toyota part number : 25710-31020. This part number has been superseded by p/n: 25710-31022.

2011 TOYOTA TUNDRA with 29500.0 miles

On sun. 10/11/14, i drove our Tundra on the highway when it lost power. The engine raced and rpms increased, but the speed fell and no acceleration was possible. On a hill, speed fell to about 15 mph. I was on my way to pick up my horse and trailer; if i had been towing them, it would have been catastrophic especially given the highway speed traffic. It was still dangerous even without the trailer. I turned on my hazard lights and limped off. "check engine" lit up. Took to dealership the next day, who said check engine code was "P2445" for "secondary air injection system water intrusion" requiring replacement of the air pump assembly, air pump inlet, emission valve set, etc. For $2600 because water invaded the system. The service tech said that this was not a known issue, but my internet search showed that Toyota issued a 12-page 2011 technical service bulletin, stating that "the air pump assembly inlet has been updated to prevent water intrusion." Toyota has neither recalled the defective inlets nor notified owners. The tsb says only trucks under the 36,000/ 3 year warranty are covered. Tundras are tow vehicles and it is foreseeable how unsafe this is. Because my truck was sold just over 3 years ago, the local dealership at first could not cover it. I contacted Toyota headquarters, who referred me back to the local service manager, who then reached southeast regional Toyota office, which finally agreed to cover the repair. When this air pump inlet fails, it allows water to enter the air injection system and the system to then fail in the dangerous way that occurred in my case, resulting in a sudden loss of power. I am concerned about this happening to others and that the dealers seem unaware of this tsb and this "known issue." tsb link is here: http://www.Autosafety.Org/sites/default/files/imce_staff_uploads/t-sb-0160-11.Pdf.

Secondary air injection system pump stuck off bank1 code P2445. This issue is a common problem for Lexus gx-470. Lexus extended warranty for repairs. However, the number of complaints from people warrants a recall. This malfunction is manufacturer's fault. The cost to repair at the dealer is around $2,000.
