P3497

Cylinder Deactivation System Bank 2

DTC P3497, sometimes indicated as P349700 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a manufacturer-specific fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the auxiliary emissions system causing cylinder deactivation system bank 2.

The Cylinder Deactivation System is a feature of some engines that allows them to run on fewer than six cylinders. When the system is activated, the engine will run on three or four cylinders.
There are several possible causes of the P3497 code. One possibility is that the Cylinder Deactivation System is not working properly. Another possibility is that there is a problem with the engine sensors.
If the P3497 code is caused by a problem with the Cylinder Deactivation System, the solution may be to replace the system. If the code is caused by a problem with the engine sensors, the solution may be to replace the sensors.

2016 HONDA ODYSSEY with 30344.0 miles

Workmanship by Honda service and repair caused consequential damage to my Odyssey 2016 car, with less than 32k miles for now. Vehicle was timely serviced /repaired by fiesta Honda 6 times in less than 1.7 years. Registered a case with american Honda to offer complete repair, extended bumper to bumper warranty and out of the pocket expenses. American Honda and fiesta Honda refused to take care of the extended warranty and out of the pocket expenses and they have covered up the case and their mistakes, through just blame game. Per david Honda frisco, who checked the vehicle initially -"'cylinder block assembly: P3400/P3497 valve pause stuck off. Checked for low oil and oil level was over full. Also found burnt oil/sludge stuck all over dip stick. Removed valve covers and rear spool valve assembly and found oil passage in spool. Assembly clogged due to negligence. Oil is very dirty due to oil not being changed consistently .' , when the engine light on may last week, i brought it to david Honda frisco, from frisco, fiesta Honda Honda towed the vehicle to san antonio and manipulated the case by american Honda and fiesta Honda. American Honda case manager was very rude and arrogant handling the case. American Honda and fiesta Honda is not explaining what they have done to the vehicle, they just say ready to pick up. Probably a miracle happened to this vehicle, how can we trust this vehicle, fiesta Honda and american Honda.

Got the P3400 and/or the P3497 error codes after engine and found my oil was at almost nothing. Oil light never went on. Have also had to change my spark plugs twice in two years. I am so glad my car did not seize up on me. Had to add 3 quarts of oil and got my oil changed two months ago.

2011 HONDA PILOT

My 2011 Honda Pilot has had a severe shutter when accelerating from a dead stop to up to 40mph. It has gotten progressively worse since i bought it in in 2014. It's now gotten to the point where just normal road driving when the eco mode kicks in it will also shutter to the point where i have to accelerate to get it to stop. I also find there's excessive oil consumption, even having to replace a malfunctioning spark plug that was covered in oil, which isn't normal either. Upon calling the dealership they said there was no recalls on this problem so i had to repair it out of pocket. Recently my check engine came on so i had it scanned the codes that came up codes P3400, P3497 which i understand Honda has issued a bulletin (not a recall) about these codes & the excessive oil consumption. Honda is not repairing these know issues. I don't understand why it's being put on the consumer when it's a know problem with this vehicle...Very disappointed in Honda.

While driving my 2010 Honda Accord Crosstour on the freeway the engine light started flashing, i immediately took my car to Honda of stockton. They notified me that my car is burning oil excessively. Bank 1 pressure switch /bank 2 pressure code P3400 /P3497 vps stuck off both banks. Check engine come on and eco will not work they charged me $150.00. Honda tested the vehicle and has evidence of the excessive oil consumption. I researched this due to them saying to fix this issue it would cost me $8000 and found there is an extended warranty add for this problem but the dealership says my car does not qualify. The extended warranty recall states that 2010 Honda accord's qualify, but they will not make repairs for excessive oil consumption which has caused my catalytic converters to fail as well as my spark plugs and piston rings. I have researched and advised the mechanic this is called the vtc acuator and seems to be common in 2008 to 2011 Honda accord's.The dealer instructed me not to drive my car it could catch fire and blow up and to contact corporate which is my next step.

While driving on the freeway the check engine light illuminated, 10/28/2014. I took the vehicle to the dealer where they advise the dtc code P3497. They advised that the rocket arm bank, oil pressure switch, needed to be replaced on both sides. I had the vehicle repaired. A prior incident occurred on 01/15/2014 where the check engine light illuminated while driving on the freeway. I took the vehicle to the dealer where they advised the dtc code P3400. They advised that the oil pressure switch was faulty. I had the vehicle repaired.

2010 HONDA CROSSTOUR with 56000.0 miles

I purchased a used 2010 accord Crosstour from hanover Honda in pa, in november, 2018.Haven't had it quite a year, in march of 2019, the engine light came on, and the car started to misfire intensely.Code P0301 came up.I took it to martin Honda in de and they told me that the computer software had to be updated and a few of the spark plugs had to be changed. $345.00 later, they said that this was a "two-part" repair and when it happens again, they would do the 2nd part which had to do with the pistons & solenoids. It happened again.October, 2019, the engine light came on and my husband found the car to be more that 2 quarts low on oil.The code now is P3497.Took it back to martin Honda, and they told me exactly what all of the other complaints say. Rocker arm switches need replaced. They said "let's try an oil change and re-check it in about 1000 miles". This leads me to believe that all Honda service centers know about these complaints. The dealership where i purchased the car, wouldn't help me at all. Richard at Honda headquarters agreed with the service department at martin Honda in de, and denied my claim. All i want is for Honda to take responsibility for their engine defect, and make it right.I pay too much for this vehicle, just to have to pay for something that is a known defect.I have escalated my concerns with Honda. They are going to have a huge lawsuit, if someone dies because of a defective engine that blows up.It would be easier and cheaper for them to recall these models. In the past, they have had many complaints and class action lawsuits settled for these exact issues with the v6 engines. This is all greed. It doesn't matter what type of street, or where this issue happens. The oil consumption test is just cover up and a way for Honda to say "you're past the warranty". That shouldn't matter either. I thought Honda was better than this.

Engine is tripping the code "P3497" because the onboard computer is making the engine burn too much oil. This could cause a catastrophic engine failure. Research indicates that it's caused by a faulty oil pressure switch assembly.

I noticed that between oil changes the engine light would come on. I would add oil on a regular basic. A few months ago the wrench light came on with the engine light. I added oil and had the light reset. Yesterday my wife called and said the engine was running really rough. When she got home i added oil but a few seconds after running it began to raise and lower the idle. It stayed high. I pulled the codes on an obd and it said misfire of spark plugs. I changed the spark plugs with no change. My neighbor pulled the codes again and found P3400, P3497 and p303. There is a service bulletin that says this issue is a computer issue and a oil pressure monitor problem covered by Honda. This issue was stationary and while moving at all speeds.

Engine is burning excessive amounts of oil resulting in a P3497 obd ii fault code. Low oil pressure light does not turn on, even though the engine burned over 2 quarts of oil. Became aware of issue when check engine light turned on. Added 2 quarts of oil, then obtained an oil change the next day. This has happened multiple times. There is a very high risk of engine seizing. Honda has not issued a recall. Honda did issue a service bulletin 11-033 to reprogram the computer at a cost of $125. I only became aware of the service bulletin after searching the internet...No notification from Honda.

The change oil indicator never came on and my engine light came on so i immediately took it to an autozone to have the code checked. It was a code P3497. That was a saturday, i took it to the dealer on monday. They were about to let me drive away with no oil because the code was cleared. I insisted they check into it due to all the complaints online with same problem and it being the computer letting to car use all the oil quickly. It turns out i had no oil, and i had just changed the oil professionally and used the best synthetic in my car. Which should last longer. Very dangerous. Engine could of locked up on a high speed road with my three kids and we could be killed or seriously injured. Please recall the computer problem and parts.

The check engine light kept coming up with the maintenance light and the oil level kept dropping.I took it to autozone and i got these coded P3497 and P3400. I did a research myself and found out that there was a recall on this issue as stated in Honda's bulletin 11-033.The recall covers all Accord from 2008-2010 which mine is included. I called Accord to notify them about these but after they looked up the vin,i was told my car wasn't included. Honda's bulletin says all 2008-2010 v6 Accord so why is my car exempted? Please kindly look into these issue. Thank you.

Early 2011 after having some recall repairs done in the past like the brakes, leaking from the moon roof and the power steering problems, started noticing the engine light coming out for 1-2 days and then the oil light, checked oil level and refill was done but didn't notice any leaking. Subsequent services to the dealer told them about the events but didn't provided any clear report as to what is causing that. Lift gate shocks gave up after a few months and have them replaced from the dealer, again no clear explanations why the it's too soon for unexpected possible wear and tear, also in addition to telling them about the power steering seems to be causing a problem again because it's becoming heavy to turn the vehicle. This has been causing a huge problem and safety concern especially coming off from a parallel parking because it takes a lot of manuevering before i can get off from the spot and involves a great effort especially in an incline position. Recently about a couple of weeks ago, the same issue came in about the engine and the oil light showing up, oil level was low again but doesn't noticed any leaking. I did some search and i have seen a video on youtube about the error code P3400 and P3497 which is very scary and very significant to the life span of the engine. Also, recalling all these issues, i also noticed that there was a recall about the previously replaced lift gate shocks that i paid for last year. I just hope that the dealer will be responsible enough to acknowledge the vehicle flaws and prioritize the safety of the public consumer especially the mini van as it normally has children as it's daily passenger - being the family van.

Check engine light came on. Dtcs P3400 and P3497 read. No oil on the dipstick. Took it to sussman Honda where they stated that the fix is to replace the rear rocker. I pointed them to tsb 11-033 but they said it didn't apply to my car. Called american Honda co. And they said the same thing. I filed a complaint. Only later did i discover tsb 13-031, which sussman followed but did not read the diagnosis section since the oil level was below the dipstick. Almost exactly 3 months and 4,000 miles later cel light comes on with dtcs P3400 and P3497 and oil level is below the dipstick, this time the car is starting to vibrate. Ahc still claims this is not a design flaw and offered no assistance. We are now being told by another dealer that burning oil is normal for the "pre-08 Hondas with vcm" and that we should check it regularly. While i appreciate the honesty, i wish that Honda would admit the engineering issue and fix it once for all. Using this much oil can't be good for the environment!
