These inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, high temperatures, and high temperature cycling.

• Recall 93253 [USA]: This condition could cause the fan motor to become inoperative, or cause the motor circuit board in the assembly to overheat, potentially leading to a fire in the engine compartment.
  This recall involves aftermarket parts sold by valeo. Valeo is recalling certain engine cooling fans, part numbers 696121, 696273, and 696275, used as service replacement parts for model year 2008-2011 bmw 1-series, 2006-2011 bmw 3-series, 2000-2009 bmw 5-series, 2004-2005 bmw 6-series, and 2006-2007 bmw 7-series vehicles. A metal-oxide semiconductor may overheat due to insufficient screwing of the semiconductor on the aluminum heat sink. This primary failure could cause adjacent components on the fan assembly motor circuit board to overheat and short.

  Bmw is recalling certain model year 2008-2011 1-series vehicles. In a crash of sufficient severity, deployment of the front pre-tensioner and load-limiter occurs.

  The positive battery cable to the front distribution box behind the glove box can become damaged by vibrations and frictional corrosion. This may cause a loss of electrical connection to the distributions box. Symptoms include being unable to gain entry or start the car but the most common are a flickering instrument panel or uneven engine performance. However if the electrical connection is completely lost this will also affect the operation of the vehicles lighting systems; e.G. Sidelights or hazard warning lamps.

• Recall R/2013/095 [UK]: Possibility of fire
  Due to a fault with an internal connection within the fuel filter heater (ffh) it is possible that during temperatures below freezing the ffh can remain permanently activated. This will normally cause the ffh to overheat which will result in the inability to start the vehicle due to a flat battery. This can occur even when the ignition is turned off. However in extreme cases it could cause a vehicle fire.

  The screws retaining the variable camshaft timing (vanos) housing may loosen and under certain circumstances the heads may break off. This can lead to the vanos leaking oil internally and adversely affect the valve timing adjustment. If found to deviating from targeted data the engine emergency mode will be activated. This will be indicated by a distinct change in engine running. The orange engine management warning lamp and a check message; on vehicles with n51/n52 engines this will appear at ignition recycle on n55 engine it will display immediately.

• Recall R/2017/114 [UK]: Plug in contact cable may malfunction
  It is possible that the connection between the b+ cable and the power distribution box can become damaged by wear and heat which is caused by high current flow and high contact resistance. Normally this will result in a non-start situation after parking the vehicle. However it is possible that this could in extreme cases occur whilst the vehicle is in motion. The driver should be made aware of the issue by flickering of the instrument cluster (dash) or an engine mis-fire; but if the driver does not then the engine could cut-out without warning.

  Issue: on certain vehicles, the connector for the blower motor regulator may corrode. If this happens, the wiring could overheat and melt. Potential warnings include a blower motor that does not work, a burning smell, or smoke in the cabin. Safety risk: wiring that overheats could create a risk of a fire. Corrective actions: bmw will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the blower regulator wiring harness. Other components will be inspected for damage, and replaced as necessary.

  On certain vehicles equipped with the n52 6-cylinder engine, an electrical short could occur in the pcv valve heater due to manufacturing irregularities. If this occurs, the surrounding plastics could overheat, melt and potentially cause a fire, which could increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the pcv valve heater.

  On certain vehicles, the driver frontal airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during airbag deployment. Increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment. Failure of the airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Correction: dealers will replace the front driver air bag inflator or air bag module, depending on the vehicle model.

  On certain vehicles, the positive battery cable connection to the fuse box could fail while the vehicle is being driven. This could interrupt the vehicle’s electrical system, resulting in engine stalling, loss of vehicle propulsion and a loss of function of various vehicle systems, such as lights. A loss of vehicle propulsion and electrical vehicle systems, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver’s reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.   On certain vehicles, the sound insulation in the "b" pillar (around the seatbelt pre-tensioner) may ignite during a crash severe enough to deploy the pre-tensioner. This could result in additional property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will replace the front upper seatbelt and repair the "b" pillar sound insulation on both driver and passenger sides.

  Issue: on certain vehicles equipped with an n52 or n52k 6-cylinder engine, a manufacturing problem could cause the pcv valve heater (blow-by heater) to short circuit and overheat. Note: this replaces transport canada recalls 2017-470 and 2019-170. Only vehicles equipped with an n52 or n52k engine require this repair. Safety risk: an overheated engine pcv valve heater could create the risk of a fire, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off. Corrective actions: bmw will notify owners by mail. The corrective actions for this recall are under development. Bmw recommends that you should park your vehicle outdoors, until the recall repairs have been completed.

• Desiccated air bag inflator rupture investigation # EA21002

  From 2000 through 2017, takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("psan") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004l. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 blomquist report at www.Nhtsa.Gov/sites/nhtsa.Gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.Pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in us vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced.In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004l that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All takata inflators produced with propellant 2004l contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated psan inflators.It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- takata (now known as tk global), the independent testing coalition, and exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of takata desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004l (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004l is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l.The office of defects investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated psan frontal inflators manufactured by takata. This investigation will require extensive information on takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated psan inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.Gov/recalls?Nhtsaid=ea21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). Tl* the contact owns a 2009 bmw 1 series. While driving 25 mph, the contact activated the air conditioner, but no air flowed into the vehicle. The contact smelled an electronic burning odor and turned off the air conditioner. The vehicle was taken to bmw of bayside (located at 266 e shore rd, great neck, ny 11023, (516) 304-3700) where the contact was informed to call the manufacturer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 108,657.

I was driving 40mph and then suddenly all light controls lit up on my dashboard after i noticed i was not able to accelerate, then my windshield wipers came on slowly without myself operating them , as my car came to a complete stop/engine off. After calling road side assistance and waiting 10 mins, the vehicle restarted. Recently repaired pvc recall and uncertain if pcv was detrimental to other components that were not replaced due to the pcv. Battery read as good per mechanic.

Right rear roadside parking and tail lamp led failed. These lamps should not fail within this time frame. I was not aware of this issue until i was waming up car and cleaning off snow when i saw the difference.

We received notice of the airbags recall over three months ago, and have been told by dealer, reeves bmw, that the promise parts were to be received by end of summer, are not yet received and they cannot repair vehicle.

Takata recall---the bmw is used as a commuter vehicle traveling 64 miles each day, 5 days a week. I was alerted to the air bag problem by the dealer. I've contacted the dealer on 2 occasions inquiring as to the status of the replacement bags; both calls were not helpful as i was told that the bags were still not available and that there is no date as to when my car can be repaired. I understand, too, that the car can't be sold or traded for a replacement vehicle. This scenario has left me in a comprimised position. I'm driving a car that has a serious defect that could be hazardous to my health and i can't replace the car which now has over 100,000 miles on it.

I have a 2009 528i . While going down the road my headlights when on lowbeams go out . The brights work but not the lowbeams the car control says lowbeam malfunction . First it was the left light and then the rightfront. I have not had this car long and its a wonderful car. But this is not safe and need to know if there has been any recalls for this or what can be done.

Takata recall we were advised by letter in february 2016 that our model had a defective airbag, and that we would be notified when a solution was available. It is now september and still no notice from bmw. Considering the fact that older model cars and cars in damp humid climates (we live in florida) would receive first priority, shouldn't we have heard back from bmw by now?

Tl* the contact owns a 2009 bmw 123-i. The contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 16v071000 (air bags) and stated that the part needed was unavailable to perform the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

Takata recall. Nothing has happen just want my airbags replaced been waiting a long, long time and i haven't heard a thing on recall repairs
