• Recall 249004 [USA]: Loose or broken vanos unit bolts can result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
  Bmw of north america, llc (bmw) is recalling certain 2010-2012 1 series coupe, 1 series convertible, 3 series sedan, 3 series convertible, 2010-2011 3 series sportswagon, 3 series coupe, 5 series sedan, x3 xdrive 28i, x3 xdrive 30i, x5 xdrive30i, and z4 sdrive30i vehicles. The aluminum bolts that secure the housing for the variable camshaft timing adjustment (vanos) unit can loosen over time and possibly break.
  dealers will replace the four vanos bolts, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed december 18, 2023. Second letters will be mailed once the remedy is available. Owners may contact bmw customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

The heater for the positive crankcase ventilation (pcv) valve may short circuit.
  this recall supersedes and expands previous nhtsa recalls 17v-683 and 19v-273. Dealers will install an electrical wiring harness with fuse protection for the pcv valve heater in potentially affected vehicles, free of charge. This recall supersedes and expands previous nhtsa recalls 17v-683 and 19v-273. Vehicles previously repaired under the prior recalls will need to come back for the new recall remedy. The remedy is currently being developed. Interim owner notification letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed on april 1, 2022. Owner notification letters were mailed on july 22, 2022. • Recall 93252 [USA]: This condition could cause the fan motor to become inoperative, or cause the motor circuit board in the assembly to overheat, potentially leading to a fire in the engine compartment.
  This recall involves aftermarket parts sold by valeo. Valeo is recalling certain engine cooling fans, part numbers 696121, 696273, and 696275, used as service replacement parts for model year 2008-2011 bmw 1-series, 2006-2011 bmw 3-series, 2000-2009 bmw 5-series, 2004-2005 bmw 6-series, and 2006-2007 bmw 7-series vehicles. A metal-oxide semiconductor may overheat due to insufficient screwing of the semiconductor on the aluminum heat sink. This primary failure could cause adjacent components on the fan assembly motor circuit board to overheat and short.

• Recall R/2018/148 [UK]: Variation to electrical resistance in the blower regulator wiring harness connector
  Over time irregularities in the crimp connection in conjunction with relative movements of the tin coated connector at the end of the wiring harness which connects to the tin coated blower regulator pin could lead to frictional corrosion. In combination with very high current flow which would occur which could lead to a temperature increase. As a result the blower regulator wiring could be damaged and could lead to partial contact of individual wire strands. This could result in an irregular current flow further overheating and increase the risk of fire.

• Recall R/2018/132 [UK]: plug in contact cable may malfunction
  The positive battery cable to the front distribution box behind the glove box can become damaged by vibrations and frictional corrosion. This may cause a loss of electrical connection to the distributions box. Symptoms include being unable to gain entry or start the car but the most common are a flickering instrument panel or uneven engine performance. However if the electrical connection is completely lost this will also affect the operation of the vehicles lighting systems; e.G. Sidelights or hazard warning lamps.

• Recall R/2014/068 [UK]: Engine emergency mode may be activated during driving
  The screws retaining the variable camshaft timing (vanos) housing may loosen and under certain circumstances the heads may break off. This can lead to the vanos leaking oil internally and adversely affect the valve timing adjustment. If found to deviating from targeted data the engine emergency mode will be activated. This will be indicated by a distinct change in engine running. The orange engine management warning lamp and a check message; on vehicles with n51/n52 engines this will appear at ignition recycle on n55 engine it will display immediately.

• Recall R/2017/114 [UK]: Plug in contact cable may malfunction
  It is possible that the connection between the b+ cable and the power distribution box can become damaged by wear and heat which is caused by high current flow and high contact resistance. Normally this will result in a non-start situation after parking the vehicle. However it is possible that this could in extreme cases occur whilst the vehicle is in motion. The driver should be made aware of the issue by flickering of the instrument cluster (dash) or an engine mis-fire; but if the driver does not then the engine could cut-out without warning.

• Recall 2020008 [Canada]: Airbag
  Issue: this recall is for certain vehicles that had an airbag inflator replaced as a part of an earlier recall campaign. This recall provides a final repair. Long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, may eventually degrade the propellant contained in the driver-front airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag assembly, preventing its proper function. Safety risk: if the vehicle is involved in a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the airbag inflator could rupture and create a risk of injury. Corrective actions: owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect the driver-front airbag inflator. The driver-front airbag module or inflator will be replaced as necessary. Note: the canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. This recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk. It is expected that all airbag inflators will be replaced before their function would be affected.

  On certain vehicles, the driver frontal airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during airbag deployment. Increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment. Failure of the airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Correction: dealers will replace the front driver air bag inflator or air bag module, depending on the vehicle model.

  Issue: on certain vehicles equipped with an n52 or n52k 6-cylinder engine, a manufacturing problem could cause the pcv valve heater (blow-by heater) to short circuit and overheat. Note: this replaces transport canada recalls 2017-470 and 2019-170. Only vehicles equipped with an n52 or n52k engine require this repair. Safety risk: an overheated engine pcv valve heater could create the risk of a fire, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off. Corrective actions: bmw will notify owners by mail. The corrective actions for this recall are under development. Bmw recommends that you should park your vehicle outdoors, until the recall repairs have been completed.

Air bag light just came on, had it checked but still there

Found a broken bolt of the intake cylinder head, was broke without any reason. I not the only one, found this video. Https://www.Youtube.Com/watch?V=a7hizib96pq there are 3 more bolts inside the cylinder head that can cause serious damage on the engine if broken.

Takata recall - i think air bag and seat belt warning lights are on all the time. Bmw says there is no recall affecting this. Both stationary and moving.

Too long to remedy

In november 2017, bmw sent me letters regarding possible fire hazards due to defects of the blower motor wiring and the pcv valve heater (recall numbers 17v-676 and 17v-683). No recall has been issued and no repair offered to correct possible defects. I have experienced no problem related to these parts. However, due to the serious nature of these issues, bmw should be required to recall and repair affected cars promptly.

Takata recall. I am still waiting for my airbag to be replaced.

Faulty fuel injectors. Known problem at bmw and mechanics. Bmw has offered an "limited warranty extension". Why wasn't it a full recall? My vehicle was not in an accident. I'm reporting it only as a concern.

Takata recall. The recall was issued in february 2016. It is now almost august 2017. 18 months for a safety recall is beyond reasonable to drive an unsafe vehicle.
