• Recall 179626 [USA]: A fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source, may result in a fire.
  Bmw of north america, llc (bmw) is recalling certain 2011-2014 s 1000 rr/r/ hp4, r 1200 gs/gs adventure/r/rt, k 1300 s, k 1600 gt/gtl/gtl exclusive and 2014 r nine t motorcycles. The fuel pump, and auxiliary fuel pump in certain models, may crack and leak fuel during vehicle operation.

  Bmw of north america, llc (bmw) is recalling certain accessory turn signals manufactured for 2006-2017 r1200gs, 2007-2008 and 2010-2017 r1200gs adventure, 2017 f700gs and f800gs, 2013-2017 f800gt, 2015-2016 f800r, 2014-2017 f800gs adventure, 2014-2016 s1000r, 2015-2017 r1200r, 2016-2017 r1200rs, and 2010-2017 s1000rr motorcycles. As designed, these accessory turn signals may be insufficiently visible to other drivers, and, as such, fail to comply with the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) number 108, "lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."

• Recall 92239 [USA]: A separation of the side-stand could cause the motorcycle to fall, causing a risk of injury.
  Bmw is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 s 1000 rr motorcycles manufactured september 2011, through december 2012. Due to a manufacturing fault, the side-stand attachment bolts could start to loosen. The loosening of the side-stand bolts could cause the stand to separate from the frame of the motorcycle.

  Bmw is recalling certain model year 2012 s1000rr motorcycles, manufactured from september 1, 2011, through april 10, 2012. Due to a manufacturing process error, the connecting rod bolts may become loose during high engine temperatures and/or high engine operating speeds which could result in catastrophic engine damage.

  Under high engine speeds it is possible that the conrod big end bolts may work loose which can cause the engine to seize. The anti-hopping clutch will prevent the rear wheel from locking but a safety critical riding situation may occur if oil escapes.

• Recall 2021056 [Canada]: Fuel supply
  Issue: on certain motorcycles, the fuel pump flange could crack. If this happens, fuel could leak while the engine is running. Note: this is an expansion of recall 16 002 20 (014) (transport canada recall no. 2020-437). Safety risk: a fuel leak can create the risk of a fire. Corrective actions: bmw will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to replace the fuel pump and auxiliary fuel pump (if equipped) with an improved version.

  On certain motorcycles, the side stand may have been installed incorrectly during the vehicle assembly process. As a result, the side stand attachment bolts could loosen. This could cause the motorcycle to fall over (while resting on the stand), which could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will remove the side stand mounting plate, clean the components, and reinstall using new fasteners.

• Recall 2012140 [Canada]: Engine
  On certain motorcycles, the connecting rod bolts could loosen and separate from the connecting rod. This could cause the rear-wheel to lock-up if the engine fails and seizes creating the risk of a crash. Additionally engine failure may also cause oil to leak in front of the rear tire which may render the vehicle unstable. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will replace connecting rod bolts and apply a thread-locking agent to the bolts.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 bmw s 1000 rr us. The contact stated while the motorcycle was stopped, there was an abnormal fuel odor present. The contact became aware of a fuel leak under the fuel tank. Herwaldt motorsports located at 5615 e westover ave, fresno, ca 93727, (559) 292-2269, was contacted and made aware of the failure. The motorcycle was not diagnosed nor repaired as of yet. The manufacturer was informed of failure. The failure mileage was 48,000.

The motorcycle was stationary when fault occured. It failed to start following refueling. A 'vds' code was displayed on the screen. Dealer could not connect to the ecu to determine the fault codes. The dealer tested all the sensors and wiring and no issue. Finally they replaced the ecu and they were able to connect to the ecu. They said the fault is in the ecu and needed to be replaced. The motorcycle has 4600 miles on it. If the ecu faulted while riding, a vds (vehicle drop sensor) code can potentially cause a crash at high speeds, especially when cornering on motorcycles. Bmw motorcycles of usa failed to take responsibility for a faulty ecu. This vds code seems to be a common issue on this motorcycle as reported by many people on forums.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 bmw s 1000 rr motorcycle. The contact started smelling a fuel odor and noticed fuel dripping onto the motor while the vehicle was idling. The leak only occurred when the vehicle was in use. Euro cycles of tampa bay (8509 gunn hwy, odessa, fl 33556, (813) 926-9937) stated that there were no recalls and offered to schedule an appointment. The manufacturer was contacted and stated the same thing as the dealer. The failure mileage was 4,200. *ln consumer stated attached are photos of the gas leak on a bmw 2012 s100rr. It continuously leaks a significant amount of gas when the engine is running. The gas flows onto the engine and then onto the ground. The leak is at the bottom rear of the gas tank at the fuel pump/quick disconnect. Attached are photos of the motorcycle running with gas dripping on the ground and the close-up shows gas dripping from the gas tank's fuel pump/quick disconnect. *jb

Engine seized after an acceleration event on the freeway. *tr

Throttle position sensor reading incorrectly which caused fault code in bike which then caused bike to shut off power. Took bike into dealership for repair. Dealer unplugged sensor and reconnected and reset the adaptability values instead of replacing sensor. Road bike approximately 500 miles and problem recurred. At both times this problem occurred there was sudden loss of power to engine which almost caused me to have an accident. Have lost confidence in motorcycle and am afraid to ride it due to unpredictable sudden loss of power. Also had a problem which bmw is calling bulletin #61 002 13 [009] which is a wire in the wiring harness being chaffed and grounding out the frame on the motorcycle. This also caused the motorcycle to suddenly lose power which also almost caused an accident. I have been riding motorcycles for thirty-five years and i believe that someone with less experience would have crashed due to these problems on this vehicle. Can you please see if something can be done about this vehicle as i have read about the same problems on this motorcycle numerous times on the internet. *tr

The contact stated that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign id number:12v177000 (engine and engine cooling: engine) and was serviced under the recall. After the repairs, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection or repair. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure and the current mileage was 2,100.

The contact stated that while riding 55 mph, the connecting rod punched a hole through the engine block causing oil and antifreeze to leak all over the contact and the road. In addition, the oil leaked on the rear tires causing them to seize and the contact almost lost control of the vehicle. The contact merged the vehicle off the highway where it was towed to the dealer. The contact sustained injuries to the neck and back as a result of the failure. The manufacturer was notified who stated that they would contact him within the next seven days. The contact was awaiting a return call from the dealer. The failure mileage was 800.
