Recall 2018239 [Canada]: Steering
On certain vehicles built on a freightliner xbr chassis, a rubber-coated braided power steering hose may have inadequate clearance to the starter power stud due to incorrect routing. This could cause the power steering hose to rub against the stud on the starter motor, which could cause an electrical arc and a power steering fluid leak. A power steering leak in the presence of an electrical arc could increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property. A power steering fluid leak could also require additional steering effort which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: daimler trucks of north america service facilities will reroute the power steering hose to ensure proper clearance to starter stud.
Recall 2017650 [Canada]: Accessories
On certain motorhomes equipped with kidde fire extinguishers with black plastic handles and valves, the fire extinguishers may become clogged or require excessive force to activate. Also, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury, and fail to discharge. In case of fire, failure of the extinguisher to function could result in injury and/or property damage. Correction: owners will be provided with instructions on how to inspect the fire extinguisher to see if it is recalled. Replacement fire extinguishers will be supplied by kidde directly. Note: for more information about recalled fire extinguishers, please visit www.Kidde.Com.
Recall 2016017 [Canada]: Accessories
On certain motorhomes equipped with lippert components inc. Electric entry steps, an internal bolt on the steps that attaches the fan gear assembly to the steps could fracture. This results in the fan gear disengaging from the steps, which could cause the steps to stop in an unexpected position and appear to be loose or unstable. If the steps become unstable, it could cause a person to fall, resulting in injury. Correction: dealers will install a step retainer bracket to reinforce the operating mechanism, and all bolts of the mechanism will also be replaced.
Recall 2013026 [Canada]: Visual system
On certain vehicles, the windshield wiper linkage may have been manufactured incorrectly. As a result, the passenger-side wiper may stop functioning. Should this occur during a rainy/snowy day, it may compromise the driver's ability to see the road and its users, which could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will replace the incorrect wiper link.
Recall 2013005 [Canada]: Electrical
On certain vehicles, the connector for the brake and cruise control signal diode jumper assembly may come loose, resulting in a possible intermittent or continuously open circuit. Two circuits are potentially affected. One circuit disengages the cruise control with brake pedal application, and the other circuit illuminates the brake lights with brake application. Failure of the cruise control to disengage, or of the brake lights to illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed, could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will verify that the locking tabs on the diode jumper assembly connector are fully engaged and locked into place.
Recall 2012317 [Canada]: Brakes
On certain motorhomes equipped with a spartan chassis, the air brake chambers may contact the front suspension upper control arms while the vehicle is underway. Continued contact may result in damage sufficient enough to inhibit the full release of the brakes. If one of the front brakes does not fully release, heat could be generated, which could cause the brakes to bind, and the vehicle to pull to one side. This could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: spartan authorized repair facilities will add spacers to the front air spring suspension.
Recall 2012195 [Canada]: Visual system
On certain motorhomes, the wiper arms could detach from the vehicle. Loss of windshield wiping capability, should it occur during a rainy/snowy day, may compromise the driver's ability to see the road and its users, which could result in a crash. In addition, a wiper arm separating from the vehicle could strike another vehicle, stationary object, or a bystander. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will replace the shafts attaching the arms to the wiper linkage.
Recall 2012132 [Canada]: Engine
On certain motorhomes equipped with a cummins engine, the v-band clamps used to connect the inlet and outlet cone sections to the diesel oxidation catalyst (doc) / diesel particulate filter (dpf) include a t-bolt which can fracture and fail when subjected to stress or load. A fracture or failure of the t-bolt may cause the clamp to loosen and the inlet or outlet sections attached to the doc/dpf housing to disconnect. Should this occur, hot exhaust gases can vent prior to exiting the tailpipe, creating a risk of combustion or damage to adjacent materials, which could result in a vehicle fire. If both clamps fail, the doc/dpf housing could detach completely, separate from the vehicle, and strike another vehicle, stationary object, or bystander. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: cummins will install updated v-band clamps.
Recall 2012097 [Canada]: Accessories
Certain motorhomes equipped with a spartan chassis may experience an unintended increase in vehicle speed after the cruise control is set. Then, if the brake is applied and released, cruise control function may resume and the vehicle speed may continue to increase. An unexpected moderate increase in vehicle speed may go unnoticed by the driver and, depending on traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: owners are advised to contact spartan motor chassis, inc. At 800-393-8861, to locate an authorized repair facility. The remedy consists of replacing the cruise control switch and reprogramming the control module.
Recall 2011122 [Canada]: Electrical
On certain motorhomes, an incorrect electrical connection at the transfer switch buss bar could cause the transfer switch to overheat and melt. This could result in a vehicle fire causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will replace the transfer switch.
Recall 2011027 [Canada]: Lights and instruments
On certain motorhomes the high-beam and low-beam headlamps are not in the correct positions, as specified by canada motor vehicle safety standard 108 - lighting system and retroreflective devices. According to the standard, the lower beam should be provided by the outboard light source (or the upper one if arranged vertically) and the upper beam should be provided by the inboard light source (or the lower one if arranged vertically). Correction: dealers will relocate the headlamps to their proper location.
Recall 2010452 [Canada]: Accessories
Certain refrigerators used in recreational vehicles (rvs) contain either a sensing algorithm or a thermal switch to interrupt power when it detects high temperatures that could lead to a fire. An insufficient response time can result in the power not being shut-off in sufficient time to prevent a fire, which could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will install a thermocouple with a faster response time for all refrigerators with a sensing algorithm or a thermal switch.
