Recall 2017309 [Canada]: Electrical
On certain motorhomes equipped with a prestolite starter, the retaining ring on the starter shaft may break without warning, allowing the shaft to extend beyond the starter motor. The motor could continue to be energized and overheat or eventually be subject to an over current condition, which would increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: spartan service centers will replace the starter.
Recall 2015470 [Canada]: Emissions
On certain motorhomes, the exhaust tube could tear without warning. If this occurs, hot exhaust gas could blow against other components or materials increasing the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: a spartan motors authorized dealer will replace the exhaust tube.
Recall 2013445 [Canada]: Suspension
On certain motorhomes built on a spartan chassis, steering link fastener nuts may have been insufficiently tightened at time of assembly. If these nuts were to loosen completely, the steering linkage could separate without warning, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will inspect and tighten the nuts if necessary.
Recall 2013417 [Canada]: Powertrain
On certain vehicles, incorrect front wheel bearings may have been installed at time of vehicle assembly, which could result in excessive loading of the inner wheel bearing and wear of the inner brake pad. This could cause the vehicle to pull to one side and illuminate the abs warning lamp. Continued operation in this state could increase the risk of a fire, causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will inspect bearings and replace as necessary.
Recall 2013362 [Canada]: Electrical
On certain vehicles, exterior freezer power cables may come into contact with the freezer sliding rails. This could result in an electrical short, increasing the risk of a fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will install a wiring protector and retainer clips.
Recall 2013026 [Canada]: Visual system
On certain vehicles, the windshield wiper linkage may have been manufactured incorrectly. As a result, the passenger-side wiper may stop functioning. Should this occur during a rainy/snowy day, it may compromise the driver's ability to see the road and its users, which could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will replace the incorrect wiper link.
Recall 2012195 [Canada]: Visual system
On certain motorhomes, the wiper arms could detach from the vehicle. Loss of windshield wiping capability, should it occur during a rainy/snowy day, may compromise the driver's ability to see the road and its users, which could result in a crash. In addition, a wiper arm separating from the vehicle could strike another vehicle, stationary object, or a bystander. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will replace the shafts attaching the arms to the wiper linkage.
Recall 2012132 [Canada]: Engine
On certain motorhomes equipped with a cummins engine, the v-band clamps used to connect the inlet and outlet cone sections to the diesel oxidation catalyst (doc) / diesel particulate filter (dpf) include a t-bolt which can fracture and fail when subjected to stress or load. A fracture or failure of the t-bolt may cause the clamp to loosen and the inlet or outlet sections attached to the doc/dpf housing to disconnect. Should this occur, hot exhaust gases can vent prior to exiting the tailpipe, creating a risk of combustion or damage to adjacent materials, which could result in a vehicle fire. If both clamps fail, the doc/dpf housing could detach completely, separate from the vehicle, and strike another vehicle, stationary object, or bystander. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: cummins will install updated v-band clamps.
Recall 2012097 [Canada]: Accessories
Certain motorhomes equipped with a spartan chassis may experience an unintended increase in vehicle speed after the cruise control is set. Then, if the brake is applied and released, cruise control function may resume and the vehicle speed may continue to increase. An unexpected moderate increase in vehicle speed may go unnoticed by the driver and, depending on traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: owners are advised to contact spartan motor chassis, inc. At 800-393-8861, to locate an authorized repair facility. The remedy consists of replacing the cruise control switch and reprogramming the control module.
