• Recall 77181 [USA]: In some cases, the belt for the power steering pump may become detached from the pulley which could result in a loss of power steering and a sudden increase in steering effort, increasing the risk of a crash.
  Toyota is recalling certain model year 2004 avalon vehicles; 2004 and 2005 camry, camry solara, highlander, and sienna vehicles, 2006 highlander hybrid; 2004 and 2005 lexus es330 and rx330; and 2006 lexus rx400h vehicles manufactured from june 1, 2004 through march 31, 2005, equipped with the 1mz-fe or 3mz-fe engine. The amount of adhesive agent applied between the outer ring and the torsional rubber damper (inner ring) in the crankshaft pulley may be inadequate. If the adhesive is insufficient, there is a possibility that the outer ring may become misaligned and it may not properly rotate with the inner ring, causing noise and/or illumination of the battery discharge indicator light.
  toyota will notify owners, and dealers will check the crankshaft pulley to identify whether it was produced by the u.S. Supplier. If so, the dealer will replace the pulley with a new one at no charge. The safety recall is expected to begin during early january 2012. Owners may contact toyota at 1-800-331-4331.

• Recall 42079 [USA]: If the switch becomes unseated, the front passenger occupant classification system may mistake the rear-facing child restraint for an unbelted adult occupant, and may not suppress the deployment of the front passenger airbag.
  On certain passenger vehicles equipped with a front passenger power seat, when installing certain rear-facing infant child seat bases onto the seat with an excessively high seatbelt tension, it may be possible to unseat a component called the buckle status switch from the seat belt buckle.

• Recall 2011397 [Canada]: Steering
  On certain vehicles equipped with a 1mz-fe or 3mz-fe v6 engine, the crankshaft pulley may fail. The outer ring may become misaligned, or it may not properly rotate, causing noise and/or illumination of the discharge warning light. In addition, the power steering belt may become detached from the crankshaft pulley, which could result in a sudden increase in steering effort. A loss of steering power assist could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the crankshaft pulley.

  In a letter dated july 8, 2005, and after experiencing two incidents (and one crash) where he alleges his model year (my) 2002 camry accelerated without driver input, mr. Jordan ziprin petitioned the national highway traffic safety administration¿s (nhtsa) office of defects investigation (odi) to commence a proceeding to determine the existence of a defect within the etc system in my 2002 to 2005 toyota and lexus vehicles, or to reopen a prior investigation preliminary evaluation (pe) 04-021.In a letter dated august 18, 2005, mr. Ziprin amended his petition to include allegations of interrelated brake and acceleration problems that allegedly result in inappropriate and uncontrollable vehicle accelerations.The 1172 vehicle owner questionnaire reports cited by the petitioner involve 4 lexus and 15 toyota models defining a population of 7 million vehicles.The reports typically alleged a defect in the brake system, the throttle control system, or a combination of both systems.In its review of the reports, odi a) failed to find evidence to support the existence of a brake related defect in the cited models, and b) determined that many cited products were not equipped with etc.Accordingly, odi restricted its analysis to the 432 petitioner reports involving my 2002 to 2005 camry, solara, and es models (all equipped with etc) that alleged an abnormal throttle control event (see the january 3, 2006 federal register notice for further details).About 40% of the 432 reports involve a driveability concern where the operator intentionally applies the throttle pedal, in expectation that the vehicle will accelerate, and then experiences a delay or hesitation in vehicle response.These reports involve vehicle response to intentional driver commands which odi considers unrelated to the allegations raised by the petitioner.Therefore, the reports do not provide support for the investigation requested.About 20% of the reports involve incidents where operators allege vehicle acceleration without driver input and an inability of the brake system to control the vehicle when applied.Neither the reports, nor the interviews conducted by odi, identified any vehicle-based cause to explain the incidents or disclosed evidence to support that a failure of the brake or throttle control system had occurred.Because these reports do not indicate a distinct safety defect for investigation, the reports do not provide support for the investigation requested by the petitionerthe remaining reports (~ 40%, similar to the petitioner¿s and those of pe04-021) typically describe incidents where a vehicle is being maneuvered at slow speed in a close quarter situation at which point the operator alleges that the vehicle accelerates without driver input and crashes.In the aftermath, operators are unsure of whether the brakes were applied or not, sometimes stating there was insufficient time to use the brake; a crash occurred and the operator believes an uncommanded acceleration caused it.In spite of the effort expended during pe04-021 and during this analysis, odi has not identified any vehicle-based cause to explain the reports, or uncovered any evidence to indicate that a throttle control system failure occurred.Therefore, the reports have ambiguous significance and do not constitute a basis on which any further investigative action is warranted.Based on the analysis conducted, it is unlikely that the nhtsa would issue an order for the notification and remedy of a safety related defect at the conclusion of the investigation requested in the petition.Consequently, in view of the need to allocate and prioritize nhtsa¿s limited resources to best accomplish the agency¿s safety mission, the petition is denied.

This is similar to the complain another car owner has filed. My car was purchased new from the lexus of pleasonton,ca dealership. I have had no major accident or no airbag deployment. Car has been lightly used with 80k miles on the odometer currently. The airbag container on the passenger dash has progressively cracked at the topical seams over time. I have been told an airbag should not look like this. I am concerned about an untimely deployment and if the container will get worse. At no time has the airbag been manipulated, repaired, etc since my ownership.

My check engine light is on and when the diganoised code check is performed "no codes appear," but i do have a power steering leakage and i hear the power steering noise when i am turning and from the recall 11v53900 11/09/2011 engine and engine cooling its a huge problem. I call customer service and they where no help! I called for servicing and they stated on my vin there is no recall but on the nhtsa there pops up this recall so no cool. I am going to wait until something happens and sue the hell out of lexus for refusing to service my vehicle and neglecting the issues when i called and all the calls are recorded. Trouble & horrible service i am not a satisfied customer. I guess you need to be in certain financial bracket to receive exceptional service.

Tamara recall on my airbags,never repaired. I got into an accident and airbags didn't come out. Have to replace brakes every few months on this car also

Front passenger airbag cover appears to be separated along the seam near windshield on dashboard and there is a wider gap on that side vs the side closest passenger. I've not seen this before in any of my other lexus vehicles and it's cause for concern of safety as a result.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 lexus es330. The contact noticed that the front passenger air bag cover was bulging and had separated along the seam nearest the windshield on the dashboard. The passenger air bag and check engine warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to butler lexus of south atlanta (located at 4025 jonesboro rd, union city, ga 30291, (678) 783-2703) where it was diagnosed that the passenger air bag needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 212,000. *tt *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 lexus es330. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to restart on the first attempt and was driven home. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the steering pump and alternator failed and needed to be replaced. In addition, the contact needed to replace her key with another key chip. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage and vin were unknown.

My complaint is in regard to the ignition switch for my 2005 lexus es-330. While trying to start my vehicle the case that houses the key broke apart. The key was still in the ignition, the car running, but the other half of the case was dangling from the key itself.After i was able to stop the engine by turning it off with the key itself and gathering up all the parts of the ignition switch, upon observation i found a very small screw that supposedly was used to secure the switch case together had become loose and therefore allowed the switch case to break open from the pressure needed to start the engine. With a little bit of glue and transparent tape i was able to start the car and drive it to the local lexus dealer on atlantic blvd.In jacksonville, fl.The service manager seemed unconcerned about my problem, and spoke mostly about the redesigned switch presently available, and was totally unconcerned about my problem. I asked about others with the same type key case as mine and if a remedy had been taken to the securing of the small screw that holds the case together, he said not his knowledge. I guess my question is simply why not? The service manager is [xxx], i was told by him my only solution was to purchase another key as if the problem was mine instead of the dealers.Could there be a safety concern here? I am [xxx] . Tl* the contact owned a 2005 lexus es330. While reversing into a parking space at a low rate of speed, the vehicle surged backwards at a high rate of speed, drove over a curb, and then accelerated. The vehicle crashed into a restaurant and three parked vehicles. The air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to a tow yard. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Engine caught on fire. Was driving on a city street when i noticed flames shooting out under the hood.
