  Mercedes-benz usa, llc (mbusa) is recalling certain 2006-2007 c350, c230, c280, clk350, e320cdi, e350 wagon, e350, 2006 c55 amg, clk500, cls500, cls55 amg, e500 wagon, e500, e55 amg, 2007 clk550, cls550, cls63 amg, e550, e63 amg, and e63 wagon amg vehicles. The bonding between the glass panel and the sliding roof frame may deteriorate, possibly causing the glass panel to detach from the vehicle.

• Desiccated air bag inflator rupture investigation as of 20210917

  From 2000 through 2017, takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("psan") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004l. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 blomquist report at www.Nhtsa.Gov/sites/nhtsa.Gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.Pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in us vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced.In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004l that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All takata inflators produced with propellant 2004l contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated psan inflators.It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- takata (now known as tk global), the independent testing coalition, and exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of takata desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004l (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004l is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l.The office of defects investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated psan frontal inflators manufactured by takata. This investigation will require extensive information on takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Me, [xxx], and my ex-wife went to buy this car from a auto auction, plate where out state, but i figure wouldn't cost me much to register, bought it february 6, 2021 and i am kind of short in money to register car but then couple week after driving check engine pop up so i had free check engine by auto zone parts, so then it wasn't serious needed change oil change and filters, so i drove more so everything was going good ready for smoke check, but i didn't have the money so i ask my ex-wife to let me borrow money around may of month, so i was driving to her home, and out of no where i got hit in the front driver side lower fender from some silver low profile car, i was going 30's mile street but when i got hit by anomies driver the driver side bag pop up and also the passenger side too!! I was stunt and confused, wasn't a hard hit, driver that hit me run off, i pulled over the side of street. Couple light show up in dash board i don't recall what they said. I called my lawyer an he mention there was problems and recalls in a takata air bag deploying. I did a research and sure enough my car had takata air bags. When i fill up with gas, the car salon fills up with the gas smell. The problem should be in the fuel pump or so. The smell is persistent in the garage. While driving, i did not notice. When the amount of gas in the fuel tank decreases, the smell goes away. I removed the back seat and so the gas residue over the pump.

And at any rate, md is responsible for making certain these engine problems should not exist, after all this is not normal wear and tear; no one told me that the car engine was only good for 40,000!

Leaking fuel filling hoses

Nhtsa recall 08v303000. My car fuel gauge misreads what is not there. Stalls and not restart without tapping the fuel pump. Fuel light indicates fuel sensor need to be replaced. After paying $327.00 still continues to malfunction. Stopped several times on street and parking lots. Towed several times. Refuses to start without notice. Harness for it not found. Impact of accident lost fuel. Since accident towed three times stalled and towed once and twice by mercedes benz. Replacement cost $1051.00.

Check engine came on so i take it to the shop they said it was the crankshaft sensors code but that code was not for the sensors it was for the timing chain they said its not running on time so now to fix it they are charning me almost $4000 i hear and been reading that a lot of people have the same problem with this engine they timing goes off so i think this problem should be investigated its so much money not even the car is worth that miney no more

For last three plus years, whenever gas tank is filled over the 3/4 full mark there is a heavy gas odor but i have not seen leaking gas. I only put in less than 9 gallons of gas at a time fearing an explosion in my garage where water heater is located.

Takata recall mercedes sent me a letter saying my local dealer had parts to fix the airbag. My local mercedes dealer said mercedes did not send them any parts for me. My car is not fixed and nobody is doing anything about it. The car spent most of its life in ga one of the zones that should have been fixed first. I cannot cut through the dishonesty without help.

Took car to dealership for recall service on driver airbag module, after driving away once job was finished noticed i was unable to turn steering wheel and the steering wanted to lock while driving.Srs light remained on. Smoke came out from under the hood and car was not overhearing, i called dealership and service advisor was gone and was not offered any additional help. I drove car slowly to my home and parked it on the street because i was unable to drive to the driveway. I opened hood and smoke was coming from power steering reservoir and also leaking fluid.I did not have any issues driving my vehicle prior to this recall service. "takata recall" i bought my car used in january 2017 with an open recall from january 2016, it has been almost 2 years now and mercedes benz of walnut creek has stated they will contact me when the replacement parts are available. I worry constantly about driving my car with defective airbags and worry about my safety. I cannot understand why it takes almost 2 years to replace an item that can possibly cause my death. This is unacceptable to me and i would like to have this resolved immediately.

Takata recall - no remedy in a timely manner. No accident but i want the issue fixed

I have been checking with mercedes since the recall was initiated in the system (over a year...Almost 2 now) about getting the airbags replaced as my now pregnant wife drives that vehicle. They have confirmed the airbags in the car are the recalled takata airbags but, no actions have been taken by mercedes to provide a solution to this recall for resolution thus placing millions in harms way as a result of inaction. I wonder what the news would think of this or my attorney?

Takata recall i have notification from mercedes and nhtsa numerous times that the recall part is ready and that i should make an appointment. However, every time i make appointment, the dealer (mercedes-benz of plano,texas) they have nothing available for my both of my cars. I returned to my vehicle and smelled a strong plastic burning smell immediately with concern opened the hood and found my relay/fuse box and wiring from under all melted severely. Called mercedes bens and towed it right away. The dealer ship is trying to hold me responsible for damages that i strongly believe is a factory defect. I need help in this matter

The car stays in first gear and i have to stop and pull over. Put it in park and it jerks very badly going into park. Then i pull off the road, stop, turn it off and back on. I thought mercedes meant high quality/reliability. At least they can admit their mistake and fix it for the people suffering before someone dies. At 115,000 miles the vehicle started experiencing issues shifting from park to reverse or drive. Once in reverse or drive, it won't shift back into park. The car must be turned off in neutral position or wait up to 5 minutes before shifting back into park. Once engaged in reverse or drive there is no problem with the transmission's operation.

The instrument panel of my car is announcing me to take it to a dealership to get the air bags checked but i asked the dealership and they told me that it has a recall on the air bag . Takata recall. Mercedes-benz usa (mbusa) has been unable to provide us with any estimate whatsoever as to when our vehicle may be repaired. We were notified of the recall in may. Just yesterday (15 september) we were told that nhtsa was determining when the parts would be made available to mercedes-benz, and that there is no way mbusa can tell us even approximately when the vehicle can be repaired. The dealer said that the nhtsa was in charge of the coordinated replacement plan. That's not what your web site says. Mbusa claims the vehicle is completely safe to drive, even though it is equipped with the same takata psdi-5 drivers-side airbag inflator which has killed at least ten people in other automobiles. Mbusa bases this claim on the assertion that there has not been a reported death or injury caused by a defective airbag inflator in a mercedes vehicle to date. To use that assertion as the basis for putting many thousands of motorists at an increased risk of death or serious injury in mercedes-benz vehicles seems highly irresponsible. It is not reasonable to ask the motorist to assume this risk. I don't see any evidence that the company has a sense of urgency about this recall, much less a real plan for getting the repairs done.

2016 i took my 2007 mercedes benz c230, into mercedes benz to see why the check engine light was on. My car was purchased with 37k miles on it at the time i purchased it. My vehicle became stuck on one gear as i entered the freeway. I had my kids with me and i had to pull over the shoulder. After turning it off and on again, it reset itself. I purchased a 2007 mercedes benz c230 in 2006 from the mercedes-benz dealership and i have had it in the garage.I've only drove to church and that's it 700 miles is what's on my car.I've noticed about a year ago when i put gas it, you can smell it strong. I thought it was because of the type gas (supreme) what i've been using. I took my car to the dealership this morning to get a oil change when the service advisor told me that the car was leaking fuel.There are two rubber seals one goes on the driver side and the passenger side under the back seat. He told me that is going to cost $700.00. I asked him how is did that happen because i don't drive my car like that for something to go wrong with it. He states that it is very dangerous and driving the car could cause a fire or worst blow up.The gas is leaking and driving the car if you suddenly have to stop the gas would leak onto the exhaust pipe,if the pipe is hot there is a problem. I went to my local mercedes dealership and ask about getting a rent a car until parts were available, which they refused. I advised that i was not going to drive the until it was repaired, due to several deaths. Their response was that, "it was not likely to happen," on the recall information that i pulled up on the internet, it says that the recall came out on feb 11 2016, today is april 27, and i haven't had any communication from mercedes, so i have a car setting in the garage that i can't drive. Just two week ago an 18 yr old girl was killed in her honda, when she had a minor accident. She should not have died, due to this finder-bender. I would like for someone in nhtsa to investigate why i am not getting any update from mercedes ? When will parts be available to install ? On several occasions i have experienced my vehicle going into limp mode due to the same transmission problem that everyone else seems to be having. It has happened when pulling away from an intersection, trying to overtake a slower vehicle, trying to get up to speed entering the interstate, but nothing particular seems to trigger it. Fortunately, i have always been able to pull the vehicle to the side of the road, shift to park, and shut the vehicle off and restart it, which would fix the problem. Until now. After the last time it happened, the vehicle will not reset. It is stuck in what appears to be second gear. I can't believe that mercedes benz has not been forced to recall the vehicles equipped with the 722.9 transmission. I have researched this on the internet and it appears to be a problem world wide. It has caused accidents resulting in injury and death and it is clearly a safety issue. The problem is caused by a defective transmission control module which is located inside the transmission, on top of the valve body. Mercedes refuses to sell the part to anyone other than mercedes repair shops. My car only has 85,000 miles on it, i bought it used 6 months ago.

Strong fuel odor after filling up my car. After 2 days odor was still there. Took to dealership to be checked and was told that the fuel sending units need to be replaced and will cost $1130.00.. Car would not start after fill-up. Removed back seat to find a puddle of gas on the fuel pump module (drivers side). Plastic on pump cracked, shorting out module. Big safety hazard.

Low beam driver side headlight is out and goes out when replacing bulb. I always take my car to the mercedes dealership, where i purchased new in 2007, for maintenance. Service rep says the wiring in headlamp is corrosive and needs replacing. My husband looked at the wires and they seem to have melted. After refueling car to full, car has a strong fuel smell. The smell persists if the car is over 3/4's full or greater. This has happened since i purchased this car but i couldn't determine where the smell was coming from until i took it to the mechanic and he said the fuel was spilling from the top of the fuel sending unit!!! He mentioned that this is a safety issue and that i need to check if this recalled already. I am now very mortified of this issue!!!

Transmission will not shift, goes into limp mode. Turn the car off, wait a couple minutes, restart the car and it drives fine. This first happened may 2015 with 66,000 miles. Our mechanic told us this is a very common mercedes transmission failure. We choose to replace the fluid, and it did seem to help. Now we have 79,500 miles and it goes into limp mode once a week. The fluid was supposed to last 100,000 miles. Our mechanic said the fluid we changed was clean. This is a very dangerous situation, a known mercedes defect with the transmission electronics. The next step if we decide to keep the car is to replace the transmission conductor plate. Never again will i buy a mercedes. This car has been babied by my wife, and has less than 100,000 in 9 years. Any japanese automobile would have easily provided double the life before failure. This is totally unacceptable to be facing thousands of dollars in repairs to a car with on 79,500 miles.

As many have found, during highway driving at stop and go, car occasionally loses acceleration and runs at high rpm. Only after emergency pulling to safety and shutting off the car does it reset. This is a dangerous defect in the power train/speed sensor in this model and needs to be recalled. *tr

I believe this is related to nhtsa action number ea13003. There appear to be complaints by others as well for the 2007 c230 regarding this issue. Basically, whenever i fill up my tank, i smell gas outside of the car, not inside. The smell seems to be strongest at the right side passenger mirror door area near the hood of the car. Then after a gallon or two has been used, the smell goes away. It took me a while to reproduce and identify this pattern because i don't refill my tank all that often (i drive about 2k miles a year.) i first started noticing this smell around june 2014 after i had my spark plugs replaced due to the recommended age limits. At first i thought it was due to that. So i took my car to the dealership and they identified a leak after i described my problem. I have lost all confidence in mercedes due to a number of issues on my low mileage car, that i started researching this in google and discovered other people describing the same problem of fuel odor when the tank is full. This leak also corroborates what i have noticed on the fuel gauge; the fuel gauge drops from full to 3/4 full after driving about about 25 miles or so. That can't be right because 25 miles or so is not even 2 gallons of fuel, and the tank holds about 13 gallons, unless there is a leak. Please see if the problem which affected the e class models from the same time period is affecting the c class model. Thank you.

Car being driven by my 24-year old son with completely clean drivers record near his butler university he attends on main road 38th street, indianapolis a flat stretch, at 3:00 pm at speed limit of 45 mph and 1.5 blocks ahead noticing red light went to brake to slow down and the brakes completely failed, failing to stop car, which went through the red light and into the intersection into the traffic. He was able to dodge around the first car that would have t-boned him and sandwiched him against another but collided with a truck. Very thankful his injuries were not fatal or permanent and he remained calm and handled the car in best possible way. No red light alert on instrument panel as to anything being wrong and this car meticulously maintained at mercedes dealership. Witnesses said also saw smoke coming from brakes. No brake function at all. Brakes perfectly normal beforehand in previous driving and in traveling from his student house that day. *tr

August of this year i had to get a speed sensor replaced that cost me $1200.00 because the vehicle would not go over 30 mph and was running at a high rpm. The vehicle demonstrated this problem over a year before i actually had to take it into a repair shop. I could usually pull over and cut the car off and cut it back on and it would correct itself which was totally ridiculous. Something really needs to be done pertaining to the faulty parts used to build these vehicles. I feel my $1200.00 also needs to be refunded back to me in a check form asap. *tr

Before i brought my vehicle to the shop i had experienced this transmission issue several times, all resulting in my car getting stuck in a gear. If i pulled over and restarted my car, everything would work fine. I did not have a check engine light error, but i ran the code with my obdi checker, and received an error in regards to the speed sensor. After some research of this issue, it appeared to be a known issue with this type a car. I took the car into a local transmission shop and the repairs totaled $1450. Please note that the local shop still had to take the car to the mercedes dealership and get the part programmed (tow to dealership $147 and programming $211.20). The mercedes benz c230 with 69,000 miles has after coming to a stop - i would place foot on accelerator and the vehicle would barely get moving would move slowly and would not shift out of low gear. It is my opinion based on reading about this particular vehicle that the transmission speed sensors have a faulty design as well as the transmission valve body and the hydraulic control unit. I would suggest that this be investigated by the highway safety board and provide for a recall of these items and notify all owners of vehicles. After i fill the tank up with gasoline the car smells like gas! Especially in the rear on the inside and out. Huge safety and environmental issue. Seems to be very common with this year and should be made a recall. Fuel vapors are unhealthy to be breathing and should not be release into the atmosphere. Not to mention my gas mileage has decreased! It should be a recall and not a "wear and tear" issue because the car cannot even register the issue no cel (check engine light) appears but yet the fuel is obviously leaking. I read into it and many people say it has to do with cracked housings on the fuel pump and sender? Please make this a recall!! My transmission became stuck in a high gear and would not accelerate. Could not manually change gears and the only way to remedy this issue was to park and turn off the car. I had to use my hazard flashers and drive in traffic for a few miles until i could get over to the shoulder of the road. This is very dangerous and troublesome to me. There is a known manufacture defect in the m272 engine. The engine balance shaft sprocket was made of soft metal which causes the drive sprocket to wear prematurely. This wear causes the timing of the engine to become off, which then causes the car to automatically go into limp mode. In limp mode, the car suddenly cannot be driven over 20 mph and the engine has to be shut off and restarted to exit limp mode. I approached a mercedes benz dealership and the estimate for the repair was over $7,000! This engine defect causes the car to go into limp mode and is very dangerous. *tr

I purchased mercedes benz c230, 2007 from the local honda dealership, and in a week the "check engine" light came on. I brought back the car to its service division and it said that code was a problem. They did something and the light went off for a week. Then, i returned to their service center again and they said that fuel was not being supplied evenly in the engine. Suggested to go to the mercedes service center. I took the car to the mercedes dealership in marion, il. They turned of the light by updating computer program. However, in a week the light came on again. I purchased it on march 31, 2014. The transmission slips form takeoff allowing the engine to rev without engaging. I am concerned that a vehicle with such low mileage would exhibit such issues. After reading about the numerous complaints and mercedes response to customers, one would conclude that this is caused by a faulty design. Case in point, mercedes will not allow the faulty part to be rebuilt. They require that the part is replaced with a "new" part from the factory. Again, one is only left to conclude that they are covering up the failure by not allowing the part to be rebuilt in the field. Surely, if it were a maintenance issue they would have rebuild kits available. However, their solution is to bury the expense and hide the problem leaving customers to bear the entire burden of repairing a faulty design. I find this to be in parallel with the "ford pinto gas tank." *tr

The balance shaft issue is a known issue to mercedes in the m272 and m273 models caused by defective material used in making it. I have added the excerpt from the mercedes service bulletin : "applicable models (not applicable to model 164.156, 204 or 216.386): equipped with m272 engine up to serial no. 2729..30 468993 or m273 engine up to serial no. 2739..30 088611. The material for the balance shaft sprocket and the timing chain guide wheel (idler) was modified on engines past the serial numbers listed above" there should be a recall on this part. My check engine light came on driving at high speeds and found out it was an engine issue that mercedes doesn't want to take responsibility for. *tr

I was on the fwy and then all of a sudden the car shut down on me it completely turn off. Since i bought the car it does the same problem when i'm on the fwy out of no where the car shut down. I own a 2007 c230 which is garaged every winter. I filled the gas tank before putting the car away for the season. When i returned two week later i noticed a very strong smell of gasoline had filled the garage. After driving the car for a day and lowering the level of fuel in the tank the smell had gone. After some research i am finding this is a common problem with mercedes cars. I would not expect this to happen on a vehicle with less than 50 k on it. I was driving about 60 mph suddenly my car was jerking and shaking the speed started to decrease and the car suddenly turned off i was able to pull over to the side of the road and i had to turn the key to start it the engine light turned on and i was able to drive off like regular. The check engine light came on and i had the car looked into at a reputable mb dealership. The codes that were read were C1200 and C1208 for intake and camshaft timing retarded (need balance shaft). This is a $4,000 repair. I cannot believe that this is a problem on a vehicle with less than 100,000 miles on it. I also see that i am not alone in having this problem on my c230 mb. Apparently many others have or had this same issue with the engine on 2006 and 2007 c230's. I did not have the work done due to the expensive costs. However i am now unable to drive my car because i run the risk of being stranded as i drove it the same day i picked it back up from the dealership and it would not start. I was stopped at a red light and when i accelerated the car didn't change from 2nd to 3rd gear and the tachometer was reading very high since i was trying to accelerate. Since the car wouldn't excel i pulled over and turned off the engine. When i turned it on again it was okay. I took the car to the mercedes dealership 1/8/13 but they couldn't find a problem. This has happened a total of 4 times since 1/7/13 and each time i have to pull over and turn off the engine to reset it. Additionally, i have had a problem with the car lurching (jumping) when putting it into drive or reverse and when accelerating after this the car doesn't change from 1st to 2nd gear. I was driving the car on 01-04-2013 in traffic the car stalled almost causing an acident. And on 01-06-2013 the car stalled again on a busy street near my house again almost causing an acident.I purchased the car from penske mercedes benz of west covina on 08-03-2012.I was told that the car was in perfect condition.And that it had been serviced.Now i'm afraid to drive the because of having an acident.And also they did not tell me that the car had been on recall for this problem. Every time i filled up on gas i would smell gas inside the cabin. I then proceeded to investigate into why i was smelling gas. I looked between the tire and the fender on the car on the driver side and noticed that there was a wet spot on top of the plastic under cover guard. At that point i took out the back seat and opened the access panel on the driver side and it was at that point i noticed fuel leaking. I then opened the passenger side and noticed the same thing, fuel leaking. Now that i know why i was smelling fuel i replaced the seals on both sides hoping that was going to fix the problem. I then went to the gas station filled up again to see if replacing the gaskets did the job. When i got home i opened both panels and noticed that i was still leaking fuel. As i looked hard at the pumps, sensor and leveler i noticed that the plastic electrical connecters that were molded to the top of the lids was no good and seeping out fuel. At that point i replaced both sides. I spent roughly around $550.00. I know it i had the dealer do it, it would have been double that. For a vehicle only being 5 years old it should not have these kind of problem with it. I am glad that i have mechanic skills to do things like this. *tr

I have periodically had this problem. From a stop, the car will not accelerate. It feels like it is stuck in a higher gear. Or, the opposite happens. I will accelerate, and the car will not change from second to third gear. I have to pull over and restart the engine, and then it works. My original complaint was on 08/16/2012 (number 10473170).... Again, the transmission gear indicator went blank. Car went into "limp home" mode. This time removing the key and restarting did not reset the module and i had the repair done. The repair on this was almost $2000! It was the transmission speed sensor which is part of the electrical conductor plate assembly. Prior to this incident, the dealership service rep admitted that they have many repairs with transmission control problems and encouraged me to buy an extended warranty! Online there are many complaints regarding the 2006- 2007 c230's with the same problem. There is clearly a defect going on and i too would like a recall investigation through the nhtsa. Mb needs to admit this is a problem and recall all the vehicles with this defect. *tr

When talking to the dealership about my vehicles camshaft sensor failure repair and possible balance shaft issues, 7 months prior to this incident, the service rep admitted that they have many repairs with transmission control problems and encouraged me to buy an extended warranty! Here is a quote from an independent repair shop: "these units are failing so often that the dealer has restricted selling them even in their own shop. To order a part, the dealer must submit a request with computer scans and control unit log reports of the suspected failed vehicle's electronics. The factory then sends the parts they deem necessary for the repair (conductor plate assembly, or complete valve body)." there is clearly a defect going on and i too would like a recall investigation through the nhtsa. Sudden loss of propulsion, rpms elevated dramatically. From a stopped position the car did not regain normal propulsion and barely moved. After turning the engine off and then back on, propulsion returned to normal. *tr

I have a c230 sports sedan with 45,000 miles. The transmission had been sticking in gear, but if i turned the car off and removed the key it would reset and usually be ok for a while. Now it is stuck in first gear, and nothing i have tried has done any good. It will not shift out of first gear. It has an automatic manual transmission but the manual function does not work and even trying to shift manually does no good. This is a common problem with this model and yet mb has never issued a recall. This is pretty clearly a factory defect and needs to be addressed. *tr

I was driving my 2007 mercedes benz c230 at 30mph and it just stopped running it would not move forward or backwards but the rpm would go up. I notice 2 weeks before when i wanted accelerate it wouldn't go any faster then 30mph and after a few seconds it would speed. When driving on the freeway normal speed (55mph) the car would begin to slow down no matter how much i pressed the accelerator the car would slow to a complete stop. I would have to attempt to pull over off the freeway, turn the car completely off, let it sit and then start it again and the car would run normal. When i get off the freeway or now even when i am driving on a back road going 35 mph the car would shake as i came to a stop sign or traffic light (as if i was driving a stick shift and didn't put the car in neutral or press the clutch) and then it would shut down completely. Now i am having a third issue in addition to these issues where the car will shift gears on it's own and i'm driving in automatic mode not as a 5 speed. This is completely ridiculous for me to have transmission issue on a mercedes benz that i purchased new. I took it to a dealer who claims that i have to replace the entire transmission due to one small piece within the transmission system. I have checked online and have seen that hundreds of other benz owners are having the same problems with no resolution from the manufacturer. I am requesting an investigation and a recall. This is an extreme safety hazard that a car will completely shut down while on a freeway and there have been times when i have almost collided with other cars due to the immediate decline in speed. I have to always find a way to pull over to shut off the car. I purchased this car because of the quality that it should provide. I purchased my 2007 c230 new from the dealership. My car has been experiencing transmission issues of the car not down shifting into the next gear and the car's speed declining while driving. This has happened driving on surface streets at 20mph and on the freeway going 65mph. I've even attempted to take it out of automatic drive and into manual shift and the car will not respond. The only way to "reboot" it is if i pull over and turn the vehicle off and restart it after a few minutes. This is a major mechanical/manufacturer defect as my vehicle has been well maintained and only has 40,000 miles!!! To have to pull over on a major interstate is not safe by any means. When taking it to the dealership they inspected it and diagnosed the problem as a transmission valve failure that will need replacement at a cost of $1300. For a vehicle that only has 40,000 miles, well maintained with regular service this is unacceptable. I purchased a mercedes based on their reliability and when contacting corporate for review in the matter they said they would be able to offer me a 10% discount. I do not have a problem paying for regular up keep and if other items need to be updated/replaced to keep the car in good condition but to have transmission issues at 40,000 miles is absolutely unacceptable and is a manufacture defect that needs review and recall. *tr

Strong raw fuel odor was noticed after fill up on multiple occasions. Investigation found that both the fuel pump housing and the fuel sender housings were cracked allowing raw fuel to leak out. This is exactly the same as the e class recall. This recall needs to be extended to include the c class as well as this car has an identical failure mode. I found this issue was previously reported, and would like to second this noted issue. For many months have noticed strong fuel smell from left rear wheel well whenever tank is over 3/4 full. Mb dealer confirms above similar diagnosis and approximately 1k repair cost, gas is leaking out and pooling on top of sender unit. *tr

Dtc 1208 code appears. Due to positioning of timing chain relative to crankshaft. Engine m272 caused by worn sprocket on the balance shaft of engine. Mercedes has repair kit available but has modified this problem on newer vehicles. This is a common occurrence on this engine, and should be part of a national recall compaign. The internet is full of complaints over this and i believe there is currently a class action law suit about this. *kb

Vehicle seems to run fine but after a cold morning start the check engine light illuminated. After taking it to the dealership for diagnostics (totaling $105.00) it was revealed that the code rendering the balance shaft or possible bad sensor was the reason for the check engine light illuminating. The estimate cost for this repair is ranging from 5 to 6 grand. This is highly unacceptable for a vehicle with only 45,000 miles. 2007, mercedes benz, c230, black on black, that has been stored for a majority of its existence because i am deployed overseas does not send a good impression when the company will not admit that there is a definite problem with this engine type. In today's economy, consumers spend a little more to reassure this type of repair is avoided by purchasing a more reliable source of transportation. Vehicle would not shift out of first gear. Rpms were at shift level, then engine shut down. Restarted and revved engine, loud wailing sound. Car was towed to mercedes benz, they said transmission pump bad as well as transmission, needs replacing. *tr

The engine light came on asking me to go to the next gas station and check oil. When i took to the next day to a mechanic and upon a thorough diagnostics, i was told that the balance shaft (in take camshaft code 1208) and exhaust camshaft, code 1200 need to be replaced due to premature wear and faulty parts. *tr

I was on the highway and the car suddenly stopped accelerating and the rpm's ran way up and the car would not accelerate. I tried putting it in neutral then drive and nothing. I pulled over turned the car off for a few min. Then back on. The car operated normally. The check engine light also came on and i had all the necessary service done on the car at that time. The car has done this increasingly for the last year and it is now becoming a hazard. The car has started jumping when put in drive and it is alarming. I cannot afford to replace the transmission and i feel mercedes should take responsibility for a defect in this model. I have children and this is my only car. After filling the fuel tank, a very strong odor of raw gasoline coming from rear of car. The strongest smell coming from drivers side rear wheel well, no visible leaks detected. The smell is getting worse after each fill-up. Replaced the gas cap, no change in condition. Contacted the dealer from where car was purchased and inquired about similar complaints and fixes because another of my family has the same model with similar miles and has the very same problem, the dealer was unaware of any issues with this model. Because the car is out of warranty, will need to find a repair facility to solve and correct this issue before something catastrophic happens. Also found in research that this same issue has been found in other mercedes models of the same model year. *tr

When vehicle is refueled, strong odor of gasoline exists from rear passenger seat and rear exterior of vehicle. There's no visible fuel leak, strong fuel odor especially when inside the garage. No fuel odor when it's less than 3/4 full tank. The car has less than 30k miles when first notice the fuel odor.

Windshield wiper reservoir and connections are prone to leaks due design defect obstructing drivers view of the road/ability to drive vehicle safely because of inability to clean dirty windshield. Car seems to stay in one gear and does not downshift or upshift when needed. The only solution is to stop car, turn off and restart. It is a risk to enter a main road because of not knowing what gear the auto trans is locked or if it will shift to another gear to get up to speed. Dealer checked car once and said they could not find anything wrong but it seems it is a known issue the transmission problem for these model year. *tr

I purchased my 2007 mercedes c230 in approximately february 2011 from carmax in roseville, ca. Within six weeks, i was driving on a local freeway when i experienced a loss of acceleration power yet the engine was running a over 4000 rpm. I returned to the carmax dealership to report the engine problem, but the dealership could not recreate the problem, which repeated itself intermittently in the following months. In december 2011, i took the car to a local mercedes specialist for a service b; upon examination, the specialist advised me that the car had not received a 60,000 mile service b, including a transmission service, and asked if the car had exhibited the power loss and high rpm. The specialist informed me that a mercedes service bulletin advised of an incompatibility between the metal material of the transmission and the original factory fluid, which causes a shearing problem and build up on the transmission shifting sensors. The specialist recommended and performed a service of flushing & replacement of the transmission fluid with a newly formulated, mercedes recommended fluid. Immediately following the service and fluid replacement, there were fewer incidents of power loss. In recent weeks, six months after the transmission service, the issue of power loss has re-occurred frequently, multiple times per week, multiple times per day, many times on the freeway at speeds of 55-65 mph, requiring me to pull to the shoulder of the freeway to turn off the car an allow to reset before re-entering the flow of traffic. This loss of power and transmission control while driving at freeway speed is a great safety concern to me. *tr

Every time i filled up the gas tank i would smell gas in the cabin and outside of the vehicle. It has been like this for two years. My car has very low mileage and it drives fine. Combination problem the wipers are not commonly available outside of the dealer. They have a fitter that is not compatible with the usual supply of replacements. There are no dealers in the columbia gorge. A daughter had one of her wipers ice up and fall off while traversing the columbia gorge one snowy eve. She replaced it at a roadside service station. This would not be possible if it had happened with this mercedes. Having a bad wiper blade is a real safety issue with me.

Although i no longer have the vehicle as it was leased, around a year, a year and 4 months ago, my mercedes benz was making a weird noise from the engine as well so my check engine light had been on for weeks/months. When i took it into a mb dealership they had to first get my approval to take apart the engine to diagnose the problem, of course i said ok since it was a leased car. Once they found out the problem they suggested i needed a new engine based on a problem w/ the cylinders and that the fact i hadn't given the vehicle the proper oil changes, however i believe it was a problem caused by the balance shift gears. So they told me that it was going to cost me around $7000 to fix the problem by putting in a brand new engine, i asked if mb could help w/ the cost but they refused, claiming that since i didn't have a record of sufficient oil changes they wouldn't help....So i had a tow truck pick up the car from the mb dealership and take it to another shop where they found an engine and put it in for a little less, i had to have it done since it was leased and i had to return it back to mb. I hope that mb takes responsibility for this. *tr

On at least five occasions, the vehicle has been unable to advance out of first gear or exceed 25 mph despite depressing the accelerator. My 2007 c230 automatic sport sedan that i purchased pre-owned and certified from an authorized mb dealer in 2009 has been experiencing problems since purchase. I have experienced extreme loss of acceleration and running at a high rpm. It first occurred a few weeks after i purchased the vehicle. I was entering a parking garage with a steep hill and as i drove up hill, the car struggled to accelerate while the rmp ran high. I feared the vehicle was about to roll backward and i quickly applied the brakes, placed the car in park with my foot still on the brake. I turned it off and restarted and was able to continue into the garage. I took the car to mb service and after they tried to say it was nothing without reviewing the vehicle, they finally agreed to do a diagnosis. I was advised they found a faulty sensor and it was repaired. Several weeks later, it happened again while in the parking lot of my residential building as i attempted to back into my parking space. The vehicle did not accelerate and the rmp ran high. Turning it and restarting again remedied the problem. The third and forth time it occurred on the high way during my normal commute to and from work. The issue re-appeared in busy traffic. The vehicle would not accelerate and the rpm ran high. Each time it has occurred, i have had to pull over, turn the car off, let it sit, then when i restarted the vehicle, it was fine and i drove off without any problem. I have done some research on line and have found that there are numerous complaints regarding the 2006 2007 c230's with the same or similar problem described and it appears to be with the transmission. There is clearly a defect going on and i would like to request a recall investigation through the nhtsa. Updated 11/01/11

Engine failed to start; would crank, but would not start. Key had to be returned to off position to stop cranking action. Maintenance supervisor claims teh fuel pump was at fault.

I was on the freeway driving to work with a co-worker when the passenger side airbag in my 2007 c230 deployed. There was not a collision or contact with my vehicle at all. The bag on the passenger side arm rest struck my passenger right arm quite violently causing her pain for 4 days and the drivers side airbag constricted and put a 4 inch cut on my neck. When i took my vehicle to mercedes of laguna niguel where i purchased the vehicle new only 2 months ago they refused to repair the airbags sitting small scratches on both passenger side rims and their claim of the tires bubbling and proof the vehicle was in a collision. However 10 days previously i had accidentally scraped the vehicles rims while parking. I can assure you this vehicle was in excellent condition when i went in for repairs to the airbags and the events i have described are exactly as they occurred. The dealership asked me to contact my insurance company, which i did, however i relayed the same information to them as i am relaying to you. The brakes failed while driving my 2007mercedesbenz.5th time. I leased a mbenz 2007 c230w from bill ussery mercedes january 2007.2 weeks from purchase brought the car into service told them the car would shake vigorously when pressing on brakes to slow down from 40mph or more. Told nothing was wrong. 2months later brought car back and car was shaking when braking. Confirmed the shaking and brake rotors brake pads,brake discs were replaced,front suspension loose/tightened. This has occurred now on 5 separate occassions. Ongoing since february of 2007. I felt unsafe in the car. Called mbusa on 4 separate occasions beginning in october til now. Claim was filed and i never heard back. On may of 2008,my brakes did not work while traveling on the interstate. I went to slow down to exit,no brakes!Car shook worse than ever!Had the car towed into mercedes. I will not drive that car again!They refuse to replace the car. Once again stated they fixed my car,to pick it up or storage fees would be charged and car impounded. I refuse to drive a car that can injure or kill me or my son or someone else. The service records on this car clearly state all of the above. Mercedes benz refuses to accept responsibility blaming me as the cause for the rotors, brake pads and discs to be replaced 5 times in less than one year. I was driving my three month old 07 mercedes benz c230 sport sedan. I had 1 passenger with me and i entered the intersection in the#1 lane and i felt an impact to the driver door as the airbag deployed. I steered the steering wheel to the right , causing the rear driver's side to fishtail in the island. As i went across the lanes i steered to the left to avoid the front end. My passenger rear tire hit the curb. As i exited the vehicle i noticed there were no other vehicles around and nothing in the roadway. The car had no damage, just scratches to the body. Both rear rims had damage from the fishtail effect. I immediately called mercedes benz about the airbags malfunctioning. Mercedes sent a representative, who determined me that i must have ran over something in the road, causing the driver's side rear tire to lock, which resulted in loss of control over the vehicle. It hit the curb, causing the airbag to deploy. I went out to the dealership to take a look underneath the vehicle. I observed no damage underneath. The only damage was to the inside rear driver side tire which had a light scratch mark which should have been a dent. They stated it was my problem, and they did not see anything wrong with the airbag. I contacted mercedes benz collision center about airbag deployment. Mechanic stated the sensor from the drivers side was in the door and should have gone off if something hit the right point. I contacted mercedes benz corporation asking to speak to the representativ e who came out with the decision, they denied my request. I informed mercedes benz that maybe there was no a defect in other mercedes benz vehicles, but there was one with mine. I told them that i am a police officer and luckily i knew how to manuever a car in that type of situation because of all the training i have had. I was driving down highway 50 in sacramento, california, in a 2007 c230 mercedes benz, when i ran over an object. The right rear tire immediately went flat. I drove to a tire facility and had the tire exchanged for the spare. The tire facility suggested i take the car to mercedes benz. On the way to mercedes benz i stopped at an automobile repair shop and had the tire and rim inspected. The middle of the rim was cracked and ruptured. The shop owner stated he had been in the auto repair business for 30 years and had never seen a rim failure of that type. *ak i took the vehicle to mercedes benz sacramento and the serviceman told me tires and rims were not covered under warranty. He did not even bother to take the tire out of the trunk. I said i wished to speak to the service manager. He informed me the service manager wasn't in. I said i would make an appointment to see the service manager - that i had concerns about the rim failure. When i met with the service manager, i voiced my concerns regarding the rim. The service manager called me later in the afternoon and stated the damage would be at my cost and wasn't covered under warranty. I inquired why this wasn't covered under warranty because i was only 4 months into the lease of this new car. The answer was tires and rims are not covered under warranty under any circumstance's left a voice mail message for general manager of mercedes benz sacramento to call me regarding this rim failure and my concerns. He called me back and defended the service technician and service manager's decisions to give the stock answer it was not covered under warranty. I pointed out to the general manager that my concern was the rim had ruptured and cracked and that this was a new vehicle. I felt my concerns were being ignored by the service department.
