  Certain airtex fuel pump module assemblies, p/n e7081h, sold for use as replacement equipment for the vehicles listed above. The wall of the flared fitting of the fuel pump is not thick enough to prevent the mating threaded fittings from bottoming out before an adequate seal is achieved. This condition may result in leakage of fuel at the connection of the vehicle fuel line and the fuel pump module assembly.

  Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. If the rubber boots on the lower lateral arm ball joints of the front suspension were damaged during assembly, dirt and water can intrude. Also, mmc has added the potential of leaking moisture, which can cause the ball stud to corrode.

I was getting on the freeway when i lost control of my vehicle out of no where, luckily i was in the middle of the on ramp and not in freeway traffic yet. My vehicle pulled toward the drive side, i quickly pulled e-brake turned my wheel opposite of traffic and braked. The car started fish tailing right to left because of the drive side pulling and me trying not to allow the car to spin out or go off the side of the on ramp. When the vehicle came to a stop i made sure my family and i were safe and no other vehicle were involved. Got out to the vehicle to find my drive side tire bent in my fender my axles in half and tire blown, i called for a tow and paid out of pocket for tow and parts plus repairs. I also have fuel pressure problems, srs light, secondary air injection malfunction. My fuel pressure relay is black, the smog technician said the vehicle has recall issues that need to be addressed.

If they decide to break at the same time you would be trapped inside your car in case of an accident. The replacement cost is about $200.00 per incident to include painting and installation. The contact was advised that this vehicle was not included in the recall. Due to the vin. The current mileage was 13,000.

I was driving my car today and out of nowhere all of my wheels lock up and i lose control of the car. Luckily i stopped and didn't hit anything but it could have been much much worse if other cars would have been around. This problem was supposedly fixed several years ago but it obviously wasn't. The recall says that fluid leaks out of the transfer case and causes lock up, this is exactly what happened. There is a recall that never expires for this until it is fixed once. Since it shows as fixed the recall no longer shows as open for my vin, mitsubishi refuses to admit there is a problem. A transmission shop advised me that this fluid should never leak out once, so surely not twice in 84,000 miles. I went to the dealer and called mitsubishi directly and nobody cares that it could possibly happen again and someone could be hurt. I do not have the money to fix it and i have no choice but to refill it with fluid and drive it again. This is the second time it has happened in this car since we purchased it brand new in 1995. It also happened to me in my eagle talon tsi that is the same car as this and it was fixed under the recall so i know this issue well and all occurrences are identical. This is an extremely dangerous issue and i no longer feel comfortable riding in a mitsubishi if they are unwilling to admit when there is a problem. I believe my transfer case should be replaced since the issue obviously wasn't fixed correct the first time since the exact same thing happened again. *jb

Cap of driver's side rear strut tower failed. Car skidded because the spring and shock were released. Replacement parts were secured from dealer which advised this is a recurring problem with this car. *nm

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 25 mph the vehicle started smoking under the hood. It was pulled to the side of the road where the engine stalled. The fire department was called to the scene but no report was filed. They determined there was not a fire, but there was a leak of oil and antifreeze due to a busted hose. The vehicle was towed to the contacts home. Although the dealer was alerted no other inspections were made.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle would not start and was towed to an independent repair shop where it was determined the transfer case seized. A nhtsa recall, #98v069001 was performed on the vehicle concerning the automatic transmission however, the recall did not remedy the problem. The dealership would not offer a second repair without charge under the recall.

Radio is locked i need a code to put in to get power dealer did not have code. I don't know how to track last owner down to get the owners manual. *jb

Dt: the contact stated when turning on the headlights the inside dashboard lights will not come on. This has not been reported to the dealership. *ak

When i am driving my car smells alot like gas fumes it is overwhelming for my children,i called the dealership because we have inspected the car really well on all fuel lines and found no leaks,the dealer said that my car was not included in the recall,i have seen this happen to many other people on the internet,they talk about the same fumes smell but how the manufacturer will not fix the problem because of the vin number not matching the one on the recall i think this one should also be on the list,cause now that it is summer it really worries me to have all the fumes in the car in the heat when i am driving,and this is a constant very strong smell,i am afraid the car may blow up or something.This has gone on every day,since i have had this car i got it about a month ago.

On routine maintenance, transfer case oil leakage and dangerously low fluid level was detected on vehicle at 103,000 miles. Recall repair had been performed in 1999, however, the problem persists. The problem is identical to nhtsa campaign id number : 98v069001 , except the car is equipped with a manual transmission.*ak

Whiledriving on highway vehicle started to downshift to 2nd gear.And had to shut off the car to get the gears working again. This problem reoccur every time i pull out . I had chance the trasmision twice already.*ak

The consumer received a recall notice # 00v421001. While on his way to the dealer driving approximately 55 mph, the front left ball joint broke, he lost control of the vehicle and skidded off the road into a cornfield. When he went to dealer, they told him that they would not service the vehicle for the recall or cover the damages. *jb

While traveling at 35 mph consumer heard a clicking noise coming from the front of the vehicle. The ball joint unexpectedly fell off, causing consumer to lose control of the vehicle and crashed into the side of the road. Dealer was informed by consumer. *ak

(1) ticking noise from the crankshaft pulley area with the clutch depressed. Kind of a swooshing tickey noise. This is the crankshaft position sensor trigger plate rubbing on the crankshaft position sensor. (2) stalling when the clutch is depressed. The trigger plate and crankshaft have been moving so much that the trigger plate is wearing through the sensor. Car lost power steering and put me and my family in danger. *jb

The vehicle caught on fire while parked in a parking space at 2 am. The fire was an electrical fire and burnt the entire interior of the vehicle. The fire was extinguished by the fire department. Consumer felt that the fire was due to a defect described in the fuel recall 96v158001. But this vehicle was not included in the recall due to vin. *ak

While opening up the door on the passenger's side, the door handle unexpectedly sheared off without warning. The consumer was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer for inspection. The mechanic informed the driver that the part was not under warranty and the consumer was responsible for the fix. Please fill in additional information. *jb

I own a 1995 mitsubishi eclipse and my driver side door handle came off when i was opening the door. I opened it gently and not rough and i also know other people who have had the same problem and i don't believe that we the consumers should have to pay outrageous amounts for the repairs considering that there is so many of us out there that are having the same problem. Also, if anything were to happen and we needed to be removed from the car, we couldn't and that puts our lives in danger. *jb

Strut towers (just underneath the hood) are rusting. It's as if the vehicle is rusting from the inside out. Vehicle will no longer pass inspection. The rest of the vehicle is absolutely fine.*ak

While driving 20 mph consumer applied the brakes and driver's side wheel collapsed. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle and pulled over. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that wheel assembly and other parts needed to be replaced. *ak

Consumer stated that transfer case was leaking oil. This could cause the gears to lock up. *ak

Oil leak inside of the engine caused the vehicle to smoke. Mechanic noticed a seal broke from the engine, and it needed to be replaced. Consumer alleges that the problem is similar to the problem recalled under nhtsa campaign no. 98v-069; however, the consumer's vehicle is not included in the recall. *ak *mjj *mr

Without any prior warning vehicle caught on fire. Fire department stated it was an electrical problem. Dealer notified. *ak

Tl*the contact owns a 1995 mitsubishi eclipse turbo gts. When the tires were aligned, the mechanic stated that the wheels were falling off of the vehicle due to the suspension:front: control arm lower ball joints and that they appear as though they were not replaced. The dealer provided proof that the lower ball joints were replaced. The failure mileage was 120,000 and the current mileage was 152,000. The engine size is not available.

Recall sr-04-001: driving 35 mph front right lateral ball joint separated from socket causing lost of control. *bf the consumer received a recall letter in the mail regarding the ball joint, however the consumer can't afford the expense of having the vehicle towed to the dealer. *jb

When driving steering wheel felt real loose. Dealer stated lower ball joints failed.*ak

Many vehicles of this same model year were recalled for a gas smell/ fire hazard caused by an improperly installed fuel tank gasket. My car does not have a matching vin so the dealer says i am not covered. If it were a defective part i could understand them being able to classify my car as having passed. However, since this was a procedure, i do not think that with the # of complaints similar to mine that they have covered all the cars they should have. Is mitsubishi not notorious for letting the volume of complaints escalate to unreasonable amounts prior to acting?? *jb

Car stops running unexpectedly. Won't restart right away / must way about an hour. Unexpected engine halting causes loss of power steering and power brakes making steering and stopping of vehicle difficult and dangerous. The unexpected engine halting occurs weekly making the vehicle not dependable transportation.

Dealer refuses to aknoweldge the transfer case recall on my 1995 mitsubishi eclipse gsx

Car dies while driving at various speeds. This needs to be a recall. This can be very dangerous and the dealerships have no idea what the problem is. Have had numerous things replaced and it has been in the shop more then four times for this same reason. I know the tow truck driver by name. It's a shame that this hasnt been a recall. I guess there needs to be more accidents first!!!

For the past two days my car has been missing(the engine not idling as normal). I took it to a mechanic who check the engine. He said that the number 2 cylinder is not firing properly. He change the spark plugs and the problem is still persisting. He said that he switch the number 2 and 4 injectors and he discovered that the injectors are working but their seem to be a problem associated with the electronic aspect of the number 2 injector. I would like to find out how best to resolve this problem. Their is also a problem with the fuse box located uder hood. Some of the fuses are loose and their support is loose. The coding on the fuse box has been partialy erase. I really love my car and i need some assistance. Dt

Crankshaft walk. 1995 mits. Eclipse 2wd turbo. My son bought this car directly from having the bottom end rebuilt. Within 200 miles of drive time the crankshaft sensor went out. The mechanic that did the rebuild said he did not replace the sensor so no warranty. After spending another 160.00 on a new crankshaft sensor and interrupter plate. It lasted for approximately. Another 200 miles and died at 60 miles an hour on the freeway. It went back to the mechanic who replaced the crank bearings plate and sensor. It only took him 8 weeks. We picked up the car on thursday the 20th of march. This time it lasted 30 miles and the plate is again hitting the sensor. We have now paid almost 3000.00 and the car is back in the shop. I have read complaints from other consumers who have had the same problem. There is no reason that the crankshaft should be able to walk. And it is not fair that we have to pay for a problem that is obviously in the design. Not even the shop that was working on it was aware of this problem. This car is back in his shop for the third time. He is losing money as are we. *jb

The air bags failed to deploy in a head on collision.*jb

On two occasions my driver's side door handle has broken off when opening the door. I've heard that this is an ongoing problem for the mitsubishi but there has never been anything done to correct this problem. If a recall or reimbursement isn't done, can't they at least make the handles better with some kind of metal reinforcement inside the handle structure instead of just making them out of a rigid plastic??*ak

Consumer was driving 65mph vehicle was involved in a frontal collision. Upon impact, both driver and passenger airbags did not deploy.*ak the vehicle was considered a total loss. Consumer received injuries including severe back and neck pain, and lacerations to the stomach and shoulder areas. *jg

While driving engine caught on fire. It could have caused an accident, and consumer get hurt. Cause unknown. Dealer notified.*ak

On august 8, 2001, i took my eclipse to jerry's mitsubishi in baltimore, md to have the independent front control arm and lower ball joint repaired as a result of nhtsa recall 00v421001. According to the statement of work, the defective parts were replaced and repairs made according to the recall notice. On june 9, 2002, the right front ball joint/independent front control failed during a slow speed turn of less than 15 miles per hour. As a result of the failure, the car abruptly stopped. Upon inspection, the right wheel had separated from the control arm and was jammed in the front wheel housing. At this point the car was inoperable. Service was requested. The car was towed to apple auto, baltimore, md (410-488-8788). In conversations with dave, the auto technician at apple, it was determined that the ball joint had failed, the control arm had failed, and that the bearings would need to be replaced. There remains the possibility that the axle will need to be replaced, but that cannot be done until the car is in a driveable condition.*ak

After nearly six years of ownership, the skirts around the car are collapsing, the plastic pins holding them in place have deteriorated and i have lost the right hand passenger side skirt altogether. Mitshubishi refuses to replace it or fix the rest so that they won't fall either. I am facing having to purchase a full new set. This is not wear and tear as when the paint finally peels off, they should not have used poor equipment and i have noticed their newer versions no longer have the removable skirts.*ak

My son was in an accident due to the recall which we were never informed about. He was driving on a straight away for about 20 feet when he felt a pop like he got a flat tire and then he lost all control of his car which did a 180* spin and slif into bushes after hitting a small curb. His tire was sideways, when advised there was alot of damage i found out they had a recall on this make and vin# which we were never notified about and asked a mechanic if this could of caused his accident and was told most definately. My son missed hitting a tree by 24 inches. I want his car fixed and the insurance company taken care of for the deductible and to make sure he won't get a surcharge on his policy for a manufactureres defect which resulted in an accident. My son went to vermont last weekend and i can't bare the thought if this had happened on the highway. *ak

Since october 2001, my eclipse has been stalling without warning. Both the ``check engine'' and ``oil'' lights illuminate and i lose control of the vehicle as it slows to a stop. This has happened to me while driving 65 mph on the freeway. Each time, i've nearly been rear-ended. Several mechanics have run diagnostic checks on my car. But the problem has never been detected. Meanwhile, my car continues to cut out when least expected and regardless of speed. I wish this problem could be diagnosed as i see from other complaints that i'm not the only one driving a death trap.*ak

The car repeatedly shuts off or stalls while driving at any speed. I have taken it in numerous times and the problem cannot be found. The fuel pump relay, engine control unit, ignition wires, spark plug wires have all been replaced. The throttle plates have been cleaned out. It is again in the repair shop. *ak

Penske service center said all 4 rims bent when brought in for alignment - i do normal driving and have not hit any pot holes - dealer checked and said all 4 wheels were fine and within specs, after dealing with them for 3 weeks. 6 days after i got it back from them my left front tire blew out at 70mph on a busy highway. This was 6 days after they said everything was fine when they checked tires and rims. Dealer says that it could have been a nail in my tire, but there was no nail to be found?  dealer has the car right now. Car still shimmies and the cause is soft alloys used in the manufacture of the rims. Rims bend very easily and is a major safety hazard. Check to see how many nhtsa consumer reports there are on mitsubishi rims. Way to many! Why do you do nothing about it? Engine rod failed causing metal to go through the engine damaging it, a few months later while driving the engine began making a loud noise then the vehicle suddenly shut off resulting in loss of steering capability, it was determined that a rod cap disconnected and hit the oil pan, the consumer has replaced to engines in less than one year and feels these failures are not normal wear and tear. Driver was turning corner at approximately 5mph when steering wheel locked up causing vehicle to side swipe another car. Vehicle was taken in 6/29/99 for recall sr-99-007 and for second recall on 4/13/01 for sr-01-007, lower lateral arm ball joint. While making a turn, vehicle made a very loud cracking noise and vehicle fell to ground, consumer had no control of steering, car came to a complete stop after skidding a long distance across two lanes,after getting out of car consumer noticed left front wheel was at an awkward angle,about 45 degrees from vertical and the whole front left side of the car was on the ground, wheel was still attached to car, after having car towed was adc by mechanic that ball joint separated from the lower arm which caused the wheel to pull away from the car and crash to the ground,consumer found website that stated there was a recall on this part, but was adv by mitsubushi that vehicle had already been looked at in november 1999 which included inspecting parts and only replacing what was damaged,consumer went back to website and found another recall notice that superceded the previous recall notice and this recall went out in 2000,consumer was adv by mitsubishi that they knew nothing of the recall,and said they could not make another recall on the same part they already recalled, he was adv that maybe nhtsa was updating website page,consumer was adv by mitsubishi to call nhtsa to found out was going on. *

Passenger's side air bag cover is peeling. Dealer notified and informed that the whole air bag unit needs replacement. Manufacturer informed that vehicle warranty was out and nothing could be done. Seeking help from nhtsa in this matter.*ak

While grand daughter was driving down the street she heard something popping, and right front wheel broke away from vehicle. She was left hanging upside down, and receivied some minor injuries.*ak the air bags failed to deploy during the accident. The dealer did a diagnostic test on the vehicle but the customer never heard from the dealer since then. They could have defaulted. *yh

Prior to recall(sr-01-007) while pulling out from a stop sign, consumer states it seemed that vehicle had fallen into a hole, when consumer got out of vehicle the tire was lying sideways under the vehicle, vehicle was towed and consumer was informed that the right front axle had lost its seal in the incident, consumer informed dealership that the part that they are recalling was already replaced.*yh

After three visits to the dealer (sometimes by tow truck), they repeatedly indicated they could not duplicate the problem. On the fourth visit, the engine control unit was replaced. The car would shut down while driving at varying speeds with no prior warning. The problem reoccurred in november of 2000. The car is currently at the dealer where they once again claim they can not duplicate the problem. The engine oil gasket cover was replaced on 12/29/98. Subsequent complaints of an oil leak were dismissed as not causing the presenting problem or i was told there was no oil leak despite providing documentation from other repair establishments. However, after the warranty period, an oil leak was diagnosed on 9/19/00. These are serious safety concerns that must be addressed.

Middle brake light arm broken due to faulty design. Wear and tear not applicable. *ak

While driving at 20 mph and 40 mph a grinding noise comes from the transfer case. Seal on the transfer case was replaced under recall # 98v069001 about 2 years ago. Transfer case is leaking oil. This problem has been reported to the dealership. The dealership was unable to remedy this problem free of charge. Please provide any further informaton. *ak

Consumer had received a recall notice for control arm, but did take vehicle right away for repairs. 30 days later control arms had fallen off vehicle.*ak while the consumer as travelling, the right front control arm and the wheel fell off and the vehicle went out of control causing accident. Was just pulling out of a parking space, while at the same time, a truck was backing up & hit consumer's vehicle. Upon impact with truck, neither air bag deployed. *ak

While driving at 65mph, the engine died. I luckily was safely able to pull to the side. My dealership thinks it is the control unit. It now starts, but the dealership recommends replacing this item to prevent it from happening again. I have noticed on message boards that this same difficulty has been experienced by other people with 1995 eclipses. It is a very dangerous (and expensive)condition which would not likely occur in other vehicles without a pre-existing problem with manufacturing. *ak

When clicking seatbelt into the latch consumer will hear it click. But, it will click right out when pulling on it. Sometimes it will get stuck and you can 't get the person out of it. Took to a dealer, and dealer verified that it was defect, but car was out of warranty. *ak

Recall 99v 066-001/lower ball joint : while driving at approximately 30 mph the lower ball joint separated. Manufacturer notified, and informed consumer that vehicle was part of recall, but refused to honor recall because if lower ball joint was damaged, it would have separated a long time ago. *ak

Two months prior to my inquiry into this matter my drivers side door handle became detached with no excessive force involved. Taken as a typical occurrence inquiry to the dealership was never made. However, 2 weeks ago the passenger side door handle became disconnected in the same manner. After phoning the dealership and mitsubishi hot line i was informed that this has been an on going problem, yet ther have been no recalls incurred. Resulting in my out of pocket expense in the amout of over 250 dollars. My question is that if this has been an ongoing probelm, why should the consumer be held responsible for the manufacturer's defefct. I would appreciate a timely investigation into this matter and a prompt response to the email address listed above, as i feel a faulty manufacturing defect should not be at fault of the comsumer. While driving car front wheel separated at ball joint and vehicle came crashing down causing damage to arm assemble spindle hub and other front end components. *ak

Upon driving my vehicle 5/12/99 the drivebelt began shredding. 5/13/99 the problem fixed with both belts being replaced. While driving on 5/14/99 a belt fell off, resulting both belts gone and loss of a/c as well as power steering. Problem fixed again with mechanic suggesting that belts may not have fit properly and replaced with factory parts. 5/25/99 while driving i noticed a loss in power steering and a/c again i immediately inspected and saw the belts once again missing. Frusterated i went the nearest dealership and asked what may be wrong with the car. The service advisor brought to my attention that there is a bulletin regarding that one of the pulleys on the drive system losses alignment and causes the belts to fall off. The remedy is to apply shimms to bring all pulleys in alignment at a cost of approximatley $200.00 for labor. Why is this not a recall and what is a bulletin for if we are not informed till its more expensive. When driving and the belts fell off i lost my power steering too. *ak

While driving at 25 mph the lower control arm separated and falled off the vehicle without prior warning. *ak

While driving at 40 mph the vehicle had a direct frontal impact in which driver's and passenger's airbags did not deploy. Did not protect the occupant in this accident. The right tire fell off while pulling out of a parking lot. Day toyota replaced the ball joint & arm. Mitsubishi dealer examined the car & stated other ball joint was cracked. Mitubishi will not reimburse for replacement of 2nd ball joint, even though this was a recall. *ak

When driving at any speed and making any type of turn,there is a clicking noise coming from under the vehicle due to lower control arm/ball joint breaking. Consumer is again having problems with with the lower control arm/ ball joint. *ak

When driving after rain the headlights build a residue that covers the eye of lamp,obstructing visibility while driving. Also, srs light illumitated, indicating that there is a problem with the airbag system. Provide further information. *ak

98v069000; the transfer case was recalled, and took the vehicle to the dealer for repair. Dealer checked vehicle for leaks, and stated that the problem was solved. The consumer states that the vehicle has a transmission warranty, and that the actual components of vehicle that have a possible leak are the yoke and sleeve. No recalls are currently listed on these items. *ak

Drivers' side headlight is totally fogged. Just look at anyone who bought an eclipse from this year and the problem is there. Although it may not be considered a high level safety issue, i feel that mitsubishi in its' unwillingness to provide a proper replacement, even when asked before warranty expiration is unacceptable! *jb

While traveling at 30-40 mph vehicle stall without warning.

Camshaft started making same noise at 97,000 miles as it did at 47,000 when it failed at 65 mph on the hwy. Engine shut down and all power was lost. I am concerned that this will happen again in the near future and it is no longer covered by warranty. I belive that the life time of the part may only be aprox. 45,000 miles. The mechanic descibed the problem as the "cam shaft was walking". He also said that he had seen a few other cases.*ak

Engine completely failed at 75000 miles. Records kept and maitained according to manufacturer. They would not replace it. I had to 1300+ to get it fixed. Now i have been told i need a new head gasket and i know it had been replaced 2 times since i have had it. I am having major problems with the brake system. I have had 2 new sets of rotors put on, rotors turned numerous times and it still shakes badly. Need to have them recall this problems, cause everyone i have talked to has the same problem. *ak

While driving about (35) mph there was a metal sound like, something broke and at that moment the vehicle went all over the road and it was tottaly uncontrollable. Braking ability was only on the front wheels. The vehicle hit a curb and dirt wall. *ak

I have had to replace 3 brand new batteries which were still under warranty, because they were totally drained. I believe there is something wrong with the electrical system. There is nothing that i have done that should have caused the batteries to die. The blower on the air conditioner/heat doesn't work and the dealer states that they can't find anything wrong with it. The cover of the passenger side airbag is prying up from the dashboard. I have had the brakes replace 2 times all ready and now all the rotors are warped and need to be replaced. I think this vehicle make has very serious defects and after reviewing other consumers problems. I'm very glad that i plan to sell mine very shortly.

Sunroof does not close completely by motor, and need allan wrench to close it; power door locks do not work; window glass rattles and is loose at weatherstrip; fuel vapors smelled periodically, particularly on hot days; horn works intermittently; a/c compressor bearing failed; burns oil (mechanic said needs valve job); brake rotors overheat constantly, causing vibration during braking. Have had them resurfaced numerous times and replaced once. *ak
