NHTSA Mandated Recalls
  • Recall 66895 [USA]: Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire.
Mitsubishi is recalling certain model year 2004-2010 endeavor vehicles originally sold in or currently registered in the states of connecticut, delaware, illinois, indiana, iowa, kentucky, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, virginia, west virginia, wisconsin, and washington d.C. Cold states include north dakota, south dakota, nebraska, kansas, oklahoma, colorado, wyoming, montana, idaho, washington, oregon, and utah. Adjoining states include arkansas, tennessee, and north carolina. In severe corrosive environments where road salts are frequently used in winter vehicles may be exposed to road debris (mud) mixed with road salt. This material can become trapped between a reinforcing bracket and the fuel filler pipe, potentially causing corrosion. Over time, corrosion could create a leak in the fuel filler pipe that could result in a fuel leakage when fueling the vehicle.
dealers will replace the fuel filler pipe with a new improved part free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or before july 5, 2010. Owners may contact mitsubishi at 1-800-222-0037.
owners may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.Safercar.Gov .

  • Recall 76547 [USA]: Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire.
Mitsubishi is recalling 45,988 my 2005-2007 endeavor, galant, eclipse coupe, and my 2007 eclipse spyder vehicles. The bracket that is the attachment point for the left rear fuel tank mounting strap may have been improperly formed during a metal stamping process. The process may have caused the metal to have a split in the area where the bolt that holds one of the two fuel tank straps to the underside of the vehicle is located. In the event the fuel tank is full and the vehicle is subject to a severe collision, the bracket may break and allow the fuel tank to drop down, possibly causing a fuel leak.
dealers will inspect to see if the left rear fuel tank strap mounting bracket has splitting beyond a specific limit. Vehicles with moderate to severe splitting will be repaired using a reinforcement cap, a special structural adhesive, and a rivet to reinforce the fuel tank mounting bracket. The recall began on september 20, 2008. Owners may contact mitsubishi at 1-800-222-0037.

  • Recall 2011012 [Canada]: Fuel supply
Certain vehicles, operated in areas where road salts are frequently used in winter, may be exposed to road debris (mud) mixed with road salt. This material can become trapped between a reinforcing bracket and the fuel filler pipe, potentially causing corrosion. Over time, corrosion could create a leak in the fuel filler pipe that could result in fuel leakage when fueling the vehicle. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will replace the fuel filler pipe of vehicles equipped with the first-generation version. Vehicles assembled with the second-generation filler pipe will be inspected and, if severe corrosion on the fuel filler pipe is observed, the pipe will be replaced with a third-generation version. For vehicles where corrosion of the fuel filler pipe is not observed, an anti-corrosion wax-like material will be applied to the filler pipe, and the inner wheel well shield will be replaced with an updated part that provides improved protection against mud intrusion and accumulation. ** note: this recall supersedes recall 2010050.**

  • Recall 2008100 [Canada]: Other
On certain vehicles, the ignition key interlock cable may allow the interlocking cam to fall forward and allow the ignition key to be removed from the ignition when the gearshift mechanism is not in the park position. If the driver does not shift to park before removing the key, and fails to engage the parking brake, the vehicle could roll and a crash could occur. This could result in property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: dealers will affect repairs.

  • Recall 2008374 [Canada]: Other
On certain vehicles, the bracket that is the anchor point for the left rear fuel tank mounting strap may have been improperly formed during the manufacturing process. This may have caused the metal to spilt in the area where the bolt holds the fuel strap to the underside of the vehicle. In the event the tank is full of fuel and the vehicle is involved in a serious collision the bracket could break and the tank could drop down. This situation could result in a fuel leak and the possibility of a fire. Correction: dealers will inspect and if necessary install a reinforcement cap to the fuel tank bracket.

  • Recall 2006056 [Canada]: Brakes
On certain vehicles, the metal used to manufacture the front disc brake caliper may be brittle due to improper metallurgy. This could lead to breakage of the brake caliper and subsequent unexpected partial loss of braking force. Unexpected partial loss of braking force could result in a vehicle crash. Correction: dealers will inspect and, if required, replace the front brake calipers.

  • Recall 2005047 [Canada]: Brakes
On certain vehicles, the parking brake pedal cable lock nut may not have been tightened to the proper torque specification during assembly. The lock nut may loosen and come off, which will reduce the effectiveness of the parking brake. This condition could allow the vehicle to roll if the automatic transmission is not placed into the park position. Correction: dealers will tighten the lock nut.

  • Recall 2005268 [Canada]: Brakes
On certain vehicles, the brake master cylinder was improperly assembled which can result in reduced braking pressure and increase brake pedal stroke. Should this condition occur, the braking distance required to stop the vehicle will increase and may lead to a vehicle crash. Correction: dealers will replace the brake master cylinder.

Known Recall Investigations
  • Ignition-park interlock system investigation as of 20080129

The subject vehicle ignition-park interlock and shift lock (brake-shift interlock) systems are mechanically actuated. The systems utilize two cable assemblies that connect to a plastic housing mounted to the shift lever mechanism.Within the housing is a lever (interlock lever) that the ignition-park interlock cable connects to.When the interlock lever is positioned in its rearward travel range, the ignition key removal is prevented; when the lever is positioned in its forward position, key removal is allowed.According to mitsubishi, the ignition key interlock cable may allow the interlock lever to fall forward during vehicle use.In this state the ignition key can be removed from the ignition switch when the gearshift mechanism is not in the park position. If the driver does not shift to park before removing the key and fails to engage the parking brake, the vehicle could roll and a crash could occur. Most of the reported crash incidents were minor in nature involving unoccupied vehicles rolling from a parked condition and striking other vehicles or objects. The single injury incident occurred when the operator parked the vehicle, exited, and was subsequently struck by the vehicle as it rolled away. The type and severity of the injuries were not described. In a letter dated march 21, 2008, mitsubishi advised nhtsa that it will conduct a safety recall to address this condition (see www.Safercar.Gov, recall action 08v-139 for further details); remedy details and timing are to be determined.Accordingly the investigation is closed.

I was using an exit to merge into the highway and when i merged, the vehicle completely lost power. I could hear the engine working but no power to the vehicle. A semi almost totaled me but thank god it merged thanks to another driver. The rolled barely making it to the side of highway and found out the transmission blew out. I want to make this perfectly clear: i do routine maintenance conducted at professional shops for all oil changes and or other issues religiously and the miles on vehicle aren't high. In other words, i almost lost my life because of this with no working vehicle to add. This incident happened in a busy highway. No acceleration, reverses or anything else other than park. The mechanics told me that this model comes with a cheap filter that allows anomalies such as poorly made material from the suv or others to slowly get in the transmission. As stated before, i regularly keep up maintenance to this vehicle. I don't know how this happened but a good transmission all of a sudden died and i too almost lost my life from a semi doing 75 on a highway.

My vehicle has the same problem as 2006-2008 model years of the same car. That is, the heater controller signal to the hvac system codes as u111, and consequently the a/c will not turn on at all, but indicator light shows it to be on. The compressor is not receiving the signal from the controller. The dealer says this recall (number 10v514000) does not cover 2005 cars.

I was pulling into an apartment parking lot at 3 miles per hour or less applied brake and car surged forward. I applied more pressure to brake and the car surged again and would not stop. This caused me to crash into a unoccupied parked car which banged another unoccupied car parked next to it. All 3 cars were damage. My car and the car i hit sustained front end damage. The third car was scraped along the driver side door and rear panel. There was a witness to this accident that told the responding california chp officer that he saw my car experience two surges as i slowly entered the parking. He also informed the office that he saw my break lights on before the first surge happened. Updated 02/24/16*lj updated 12/12/2017*cn

I was driving the vehicle home from work when i smelled electrical wire burning through out the car. It was coming from under the glove compartment. I pulled off the road to investigate. The connector to the a/c & heater motor was charred. During internet research i discovered that this is very common occurrence. What people have said on-line was that it was a poor design, thus the connecting pins are too close which causes them to heat up and char the connector. If i would have had a new paper or backpack in that area, it could cause a fire while driving resulting in a fatal accident. I tried reconnecting, that part i used was charred a second time. I believe it should be recalled by the manufacturer. *tr

My son and i was in an accident on may, 20th, 2010 at approximately 3:45 pm. I was driving my 2005 mitsubishi endeavor limited on the interstate at 60 mph. Two cars in front of my vehicle slammed on their brakes to avoiding hitting a motorcyclist that dodged in front of them. I slammed on my brakes and swerved to dodge the van, in front of me, but ending up hitting the van on my front passenger side. I was traveling at approximately 55mph when i hit the van. My 17 year old son's seatbelt failed to work, causing him to hit the windshield, breaking the windshield. After he hit the windshield, his airbag deployed late throwing him up and back. In my opinion, my seatbelt did not work either. My son nor i had any marks on our neck or shoulders, from a seatbelt locking in during an accident. My suv was termed totaled by my insurance company. *tr

1. My 2005 endeavor has 11,000 kms, covered by the warranty (it has less than a year since i bought it. Lst friday i was driving normally to my work when i felt thumps and if it were pulling back and forth. I don't know how but i managed to park, and when i did something under it ripped off and a huge spot of oil appeared. It leaked all the transmission fluid on the pavement. This could have been lethal if it were on a road, according to the mechanic. Now mitsubishi refuses to recognize warranty. The cause was a broken hose of transmission fluid which caused the leakage. *nm

Dt: the contact stated while purchasing the vehicle he insisted that the dealer convert the driver's seat to a power operated seat. After the power seat was installed the srs light illuminated. The dealer performed diagnostic testing which was inconclusive. The dealer believed it may have been the wiring harness on the power seat that caused the srs light to illuminate. The dealer ordered an air bag to remedy the problem, but it has not been installed. *ak
