Greensboro, NC USA Field Service Bulletin Trucks Date Group No. Release Page 1.2013 371 044 01 1(3) Battery Cable Mounting Clamp CHU, CXU, GU, LEU, MRU, TD FSB 371-044, Battery Cable Mounting Clamps (January 2013) On some MACK models built, between November 1, 2010 and November 30, 2012, may experience the battery cable clamps breaking or cracking. This is due to a material and torque issue. Follow the procedure below: You must read and understand the precautions and guidelines in Service Information, group 20, "General Safety Practices, Engine" before performing this procedure. If you are not properly trained and certified in this procedure, ask your supervisor for training before you perform it. Inspection 1 Secure the vehicle for service by parking it on a flat level surface, applying the parking brake, chocking the rear wheel, and placing the transmission in neutral. 2 Inspect battery cable clamps, from battery to starter, to determine how many clamps are cracked or broken. Note: If no broken clamps are found no further repairs are needed. PV729-FSB371-044_M USA57400 Mack Trucks, Inc. Field Service Bulletin Date 1.2013 Group No. Release 371 044 01 Repair 1 Disconnect all of the positive and negative battery cables from the batteries. 2 Locate the cracked or broken battery cable clamps. W2079310 1. Cracked or broken clamp 3 Remove the clamp from the bracket mount and cables. 4 Install new clamp part # 21658909 onto the cable and secure bracket mounting. Replace cable ties as required. W2079311 Torque the nut to: 8.1 ± 1.4 Nm (6 ± 1 ft-lb) Note: Ensure new clamp is positioned correctly before snapping together otherwise repositioning may be difficult. 5 Replace other broken clamps as required. Note: This depends on the number of broken clamps found during inspection. 6 Verify cables are not rubbing, correct as necessary. 7 Connect all the positive (+) and negative (-) cables previously removed from the batteries on the left and right side battery boxes.
