Bulletin No.: PIT5195B Date: Nov-2014 Subject: Speedometer Needle Accuracy Information Models: 2003-2014 Cadillac Escalade Models 2003-2013 Chevrolet Avalanche 2014-2015 Chevrolet Camaro, Malibu, Equinox 2003-2015 Chevrolet Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe 2003-2015 GMC Sierra, Yukon Models 2014-2015 GMC Terrain This PI was superseded to update Model Years. Please discard PIT5195A. The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI. Condition/Concern A customer may comment that their vehicle's speedometer needle appears to be inaccurate. The speedometer needle is electrically operated by a stepper motor and there may be some variation in accuracy. Digital readout devices, such as "Digital Speedometer" on the DIC, are direct readouts of the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) and their accuracy is much greater. Tire size, tread life and inflation may cause some variation in the readings. Recommendation/Instructions The specification for speedometer needle accuracy is +/- 2 MPH at any given speed when looking straight at the needle. Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information. WE SUPPORT VOLUNTARY TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATION 1
