Field Service Bulletin Trucks Volvo Trucks North America Greensboro, NC USA Date This Field Service Bulletin replaces bulletin FSB 215-002 dated 5.2015. 5.2015 Group No. Release 215 002 02 Page 1(2) Timing Plate Leak Repair D16 VN, VT FSB 215-002, Timing Plate Leak Repair (May 2015) Information Oil leaks have been observed coming from the area that is at the rear of the engine, just under the lip of the valve cover, on the right side (exhaust side). It is typically seen as seeping, weeping, leaking oil and could be believed to be from the cylinder head gasket. Deeper investigation has found that the bolts (highlighted in the images below) that fasten the timing plate to the cylinder head are coming loose, which breaks the silicone seal and will allow oil to start leaking. This issue is only applicable to D16 engine serial numbers prior to 80059. The repair for this requires gaining access to the rear of the engine block. Refer to the appropriate service information in Impact. It may be necessary to replace the timing plate if the plate is fretted severely. Thoroughly clean the block, fasteners and fastener holes. Replace all 25 M8*25 timing plate screws with part number 994447 which have pre-applied locking compound (patch-lock). Page 2(2)
