• Recall 107470 [USA]: Failure of the ball joint may cause separation of the socket and a complete loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash.
  Volvo trucks north america (volvo) is recalling certain model year 2009-2015 volvo vn trucks manufactured april 14, 2008, to december 23, 2014. The affected vehicles may experience corrosion of the ball joints due to the seals being compromised, possibly resulting in accelerated wear and failure of the ball joint.
  volvo will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the drag links, free of charge. Parts are not currently available. Volvo issued an interim notification to owners on october 28, 2015. • Recall 90803 [USA]: In the event of a crash, an insufficient seat belt weld may prevent the seat belt from properly restraining the occupant. this increases the risk of injury to the seat occupant.
  Volvo is recalling certain model year 2002-2013 vhd and vn trucks, manufactured from august 4, 2000, through june 22, 2012, and equipped with bench passenger seats. The seat belt d-ring weld may not be sufficient enough to meet the seat belt pull test. Therefore, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 210, "seat belt assembly anchorages."

The inversion valve on the frame may be orientated where contaminants can enter the valve through the exhaust port. As a result, the brake valve may corrode.

• Recall 2015466 [Canada]: Steering
  On certain vehicles, a defect in the the ball joint seals on the drag link could allow corrosion to form in the joint, leading to accelerated wear. This could result in ball joint failure, potentially resulting in a loss of steering control which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will inspect the drag link on affected vehicles. Those found to be loose will be replaced immediately. Drag links found to be still serviceable will be replaced when sufficient replacement parts become available.

  Certain vehicles may fail to conform to canada motor vehicle safety standard 210 – seatbelt assembly anchorages. The weld used to secure the nut to the center-passenger seatbelt d-ring mounting bracket may not be sufficient to meet the strength requirements of the standard. Failure of the seatbelt d-ring anchorage to restrain the occupant would increase the risk of personal injury during a crash. Correction: dealers will replace the d-ring for the middle seating position.

  On certain trucks equipped with an air release fifth wheel hitch, the inversion valve on the frame may be orientated where contaminants can enter the valve through the exhaust port. As a result, the brake valve may corrode causing it to malfunction and in some cases result in unintended opening of the fifth wheel's locking mechanism. This could allow the trailer to separate from the towing vehicle while underway. Also, an air loss could increase vehicle stopping distance and result in a crash causing property damage or personal injury. Correction: dealers will inspect and replace the inversion valve if required.

  On certain trucks, the bottom track that attaches to the arms used to open and close the window may de-bond, resulting in the glass coming loose at the bottom. If this occurs and is left unresolved, the upper window hinges may fail and allow the glass to fall out of the window frame. A window which falls from the vehicle may blow into the air, presenting a risk of hitting other vehicles, a stationary object, or bystanders, causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the window assembly.

  During a review of volvo trucks (volvo) 2016, 4th quarter ewr field report submissions, odi discovered, multiple communications that had not been submitted to the agency under cfr 579.5 ewr reporting requirements.Also, during a review of the nova lfs transit bus (a subsidiary of the volvo group) recall 17v-323 odi became concerned volvo may not have acted with appropriate speed in making a defect determination and filing the recall with the agency.Based on a review of these issues with volvo, their compliance office agreed to conduct an internal audit of all required reporting and found the following:1.Various forms of communications including, service bulletins, tech tips, case base reasoning reports and other data were not submitted.2.Reporting of some death and injury reports (d&i) had been overlooked and not submittedthis investigation will examine whether volvo acted in conformance with its responsibilities under the safety act.

• Volvo sleeper glass de-bonding investigation # RQ11001

  Odi opened recall query rq11-001 after a review of ewr field reports identified lower bunk window separations on the subject vehicles.Volvo had issued three recalls for sleeper window separations since 2003.Additionally, volvo had issued two bulletins for sleeper window issues during the same time period.The frequency of related actions led odi to open this formal investigation.An information request (ir) letter was sent to volvo on 23 june 2011.Volvo responded on 17 august 2011 and then provided updated warranty information on 9 january 2012.Volvo provided production change data and warranty information which was correlated to vehicle build month and failure date.Odi analyzed the data to determine if additional production time frames should have been included in previous recalls.Odi also requested information from its network of fleet owners.The response from this network reaffirmed the accuracy of the updated warranty information.Based on the information and data received, odi has concluded that all production periods have been appropriately addressed by volvos previous recalls and no additional recall action is required at this time.
