• Recall 90796 [USA]: In the event of a crash, an insufficient seat belt weld may prevent the seat belt from properly restraining the occupant. this increases the risk of injury to the seat occupant.
  Volvo is recalling certain model year 2002-2013 vhd and vn trucks, manufactured from august 4, 2000, through june 22, 2012, and equipped with bench passenger seats. The seat belt d-ring weld may not be sufficient enough to meet the seat belt pull test. Therefore, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 210, "seat belt assembly anchorages."

• Recall 70444 [USA]: Corrosion of the valve can cause it to malfunction, thereby adversely affecting braking performance and increasing the risk of a crash.
  Volvo trucks is recalling certain model year 2007 and 2009 vhd, model year 2006 through 2010 vn, and model year 2007 through 2009 vt trucks manufactured from november 7, 2005, through october 30, 2009, equipped with an air release fifth wheel. The inversion valve on the frame may be orientated where contaminants can enter the valve through the exhaust port. As a result, the brake valve may corrode.

  On certain trucks equipped with arvinmeritor series 145 and 160 rear drive axles. Some of the spindles were overheated during the heat treat process which could result in a fracture of the spindle.

• Recall 2012356 [Canada]: Seats and restraints
  Certain vehicles may fail to conform to canada motor vehicle safety standard 210 – seatbelt assembly anchorages. The weld used to secure the nut to the center-passenger seatbelt d-ring mounting bracket may not be sufficient to meet the strength requirements of the standard. Failure of the seatbelt d-ring anchorage to restrain the occupant would increase the risk of personal injury during a crash. Correction: dealers will replace the d-ring for the middle seating position.

  On certain trucks equipped with an air release fifth wheel hitch, the inversion valve on the frame may be orientated where contaminants can enter the valve through the exhaust port. As a result, the brake valve may corrode causing it to malfunction and in some cases result in unintended opening of the fifth wheel's locking mechanism. This could allow the trailer to separate from the towing vehicle while underway. Also, an air loss could increase vehicle stopping distance and result in a crash causing property damage or personal injury.   On certain vehicles, the rear drive axle spindles were overheated during fabrication's heat treatment process. Such a condition compromises the overall structural integrity of the spindle, and therefore could result in a fracture of the spindle. If a spindle fractures while the vehicle is in motion, it may cause wheel separation, which could lead to a loss of vehicle control and a crash. • Volvo sleeper glass de-bonding investigation # RQ11001

  Odi opened recall query rq11-001 after a review of ewr field reports identified lower bunk window separations on the subject vehicles.Volvo had issued three recalls for sleeper window separations since 2003.Additionally, volvo had issued two bulletins for sleeper window issues during the same time period.The frequency of related actions led odi to open this formal investigation.An information request (ir) letter was sent to volvo on 23 june 2011.Volvo responded on 17 august 2011 and then provided updated warranty information on 9 january 2012.Volvo provided production change data and warranty information which was correlated to vehicle build month and failure date.Odi analyzed the data to determine if additional production time frames should have been included in previous recalls.Odi also requested information from its network of fleet owners.The response from this network reaffirmed the accuracy of the updated warranty information.Based on the information and data received, odi has concluded that all production periods have been appropriately addressed by volvos previous recalls and no additional recall action is required at this time.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 volvo tractor trailer. The contact stated that while driving at speeds of 55 mph, the contact smelled burning from the rear of the vehicle and noticed an unknown warning light illuminate on the instrument panel. The rear of the vehicle caught on fire and the contact was able to douse the fire using a fire extinguisher. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was unable to be duplicated. The contact stated there were pictures available of the fire damage. The approximate failure and current mileage was 570,000.

Dt*: the contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the vehicle pulled to the right, and the tires wore unevenly. The vehicle was taken to several service dealers, where several alignments were performed. The problems persisted. The dealer was subsequently unable to determine the cause of the problem.
