SUBJECT:
INTERMITTENT LACK OF POWER OR HESITATION
UPON ACCELERATION – RESTRICTED FUEL LINE
 NOTICE
This bulletin has been revised to include additional information. New/revised
sections of this bulletin are indicated by a black bar in the margin area.
Customers may experience an intermittent lack of power or hesitation upon acceleration. The
malfunction indicator lamp may not illuminate or DTC P0087 may be stored (history). This is
possibly due to a restricted low pressure fuel line.
DTC P0087: Fuel Rail/System Pressure – Too Low
Restricted Fuel Line
Begin by checking the fuel pressure at the low pressure pump fuel output line (A, page 2) in
the fuel tank using a fuel gauge kit, tool number: FPG2200. The gauge should display above
the PSI shown in the table below if the low pressure fuel pump functions correctly.

When the lack of power/hesitation occurs and the
fuel pressure at the fuel tank is within
specifications, disconnect the fuel pressure gauge
from the low pressure pump (A) and connect it at
the high pressure pump fuel feed line (B).
B
 NOTICE
If two (2) pressure gauges are
used at the same time,
pressures should be equal.
A
When the lack of power/hesitation occurs and the gauge drops below the aforementioned PSI
specification, the fuel feed line from the low pressure pump to the high pressure pump may be
restricted. Replace the low pressure fuel line from the tank to the high pressure pump by
referring to the “Engine Control / Fuel System → Fuel Delivery System → Fuel Line → Repair
procedures” chapter in the applicable Shop Manual on KGIS.
