SITUATION
The chrome ring on the iDrive controller is peeling.
CAUSE
Poor chrome material adhesion
CORRECTION
Only replace the chrome trim.
PROCEDURE
Do not replace the complete iDrive controller for this issue.
Replace the iDrive controller trim piece per ISTA Repair Instruction 6131198, “Replace controller chrome
ring.” The instructions are included in this Service Information bulletin.
Special tools required: 00 9 340 (part
of set 83 30 0 493 687)
1. Carefully pry up the “OPTION,”
“BACK,” and “MENU” buttons
with special tool 00 9 340.

2. Carefully pry the chrome ring
from the controller latch
mechanism with special tool 00
9 340. Remove upwards.
Note: Be careful not to break the
retaining tabs on the controller.
3. Install the new chrome ring by
pushing it gently into place on
the controller, until it locks in.
4. Reinstall the buttons that were
previously removed.
5. Check the operation of the
controller.
