Reason for change
Complaint
Creaking noise may be heard while driving - especially on rough roads - from the area above the grab handles in the
rear passenger compartment (between the B and C-pillar). Complaint is only noise related and does not relate to any
insecurity in the glass or roof.
Cause
Possible causes:
A) Relative movement of the contact areas from the "glass pane" to the "frame" of the fixed glass section at rear (see
picture 1)
B) Ridging and uneven surface on the contact area from the threaded connection of "top sliding roof frame, front" to
the "frame of fixed glass section, rear" (see picture 2)

Remedy
Exposure work to gain access to the source of the creaking noise (see picture 3):
1. Remove trim of crossbar (AR77.21-P-6920ME, operation step 8)
2. Remove front inner trim (AR77.21-P-6920ME, operation step 3)
3. Remove rear trim (AR77.21-P-6920ME, operation step 9)
State with trim removed (see picture 4)

A) Operation step #1 (see picture 5):
Slide a paper or similar material between glass pane and rear top sliding roof frame and test for noise while the paper
is in place.
- Creaking noise eliminated # Remove previously inserted paper/material and replace with felt strip or thin stone chipping protective film
- Creaking noise still present - perform operation step #2
B) Operation step #2 (see picture 5):
Remove screws and attach thin Teflon tape between front and rear top sliding roof frame. Tighten screws to 5.5 Nm.
