Undesirable odour emanating from the front wheel arches, the issue occurs after the vehicle has reached normal operating temperature
•
The odour can also be evident within the cabin
Technical background
HINT: The issue described is mainly evident on low mileage/low use vehicles with iron brakes
In the event the symptoms are as described, please conduct the instructions within the Measure section of this TPI

Measure
1) Conduct a road test to confirm the issue described is evident
•
Once confirmed, conduct the onward steps to completion
2) Carry out a full visual inspection of the complete braking system to confirm the braking system is to specification
NOTE: Pay attention to the following:
•
Front calliper assembly/brake pad wax contamination
•
Fluid leaks
•
Signs of assembly wax contamination/fluid leaks onto the front wheel hubs and brake assemblies
3) Referring to Rep.Gr 46 - Remove the left and right front brake pads
•
Inspect the left and right front brake calliper pistons, checking for any excessive assembly wax which may be applied between the calliper
and brake pad surfaces (Figures 1 and 2)

4) Using a suitable brake cleaner - Remove the assembly wax from the left and right hand calliper and Calliper pistons
•
Using a suitable brake cleaner - Remove the assembly wax from the rear of the front brake pads IMPORTANT: DO NOT APPLY THE
BRAKE CLEANER DIRECTLY TO THE FRICTION SURFACES OF THE BRAKE PADS
CAUTION: In the event the friction surfaces of the brake pad are contaminated the operative MUST raise a DISS query
(ensure good quality resolution photographs are attached) and wait feedback before conducting any further work
5) Referring to Rep.Gr 46 - Refit the left and right front brake pads
6) Conduct a second road test to confirm the odour is no longer evident
