Customer statement / workshop findings
One or a combination of the following symptoms are evident:
•
Engine coolant overheat condition
•
Coolant loss
•
Diagnostic trouble codes (DTC’s) logged within the Engine control module/s relating to “Air in the coolant system”
•
Engine overheating issues and/or DTC P218100: Cooling System Performance symptom code 8113 is evident
•
Warning light within the Drivers Information Panel (DIP)
Technical background
CAUTION
CAUTION: In the event that coolant is leaking from the mechanical coolant pump the operative should refer to the applicable TPI depending on
the part number of the mechanical coolant pump as detailed below:
•
Mechanical coolant pump - 07P 121 008B - Refer to TPI 2071238/-
•
Mechanical coolant pump - 07P 121 008C - Refer to TPI 2071239/-
Production change
In the event the issue described is evident post the following VIN (depending on model) the operative must raise a DISS query and await
feedback before conducting any further work

Measure
1) Fully drain the cooling system - Refer to Elsa Pro Rep.Gr 19 Cooling system - To drain and fill
2) Replace the Thermostat housing (includes thermostat) - Refer to Elsa Pro Rep.Gr 19 Cooling system - Thermostat - To replace
Within this procedure there are single use items which must be replaced and not reused. Ensure that new replacements are
available prior to starting this procedure
DO NOT REMOVE THE THERMOSTAT FROM THE HOUSING AT ANY TIME FROM EITHER THE NEW OR OLD HOUSING.THE
THERMOSTAT IS ALIGNED AT THE SUPPLIER AND SHOULD NOT BE DISTURBED
3) Refill the cooling system - Refer to Elsa Pro Rep.Gr 19 Cooling system - To drain and fill
4) Park the vehicle in a well ventilated area ensuring suitable exhaust extraction is available and used at all times
•
Allow the engine to idle for 30 minutes in a well ventilated area whilst monitoring the engine coolant temperature using ODIS
CAUTION
CAUTION: In the event the coolant temperature exceeds 115 degrees Celsius the operative MUST switch off the engine and raise a new
Technical DISS query or respond via an existing DISS query, the operative must await feedback before conducting any further work
NOTICE
VERY
IMPORTANT: Whilst the engine is idling the operative MUST check to confirm the engine is operating to specification and also confirm
INTERNAL
there are no warnings evident within the DIP whilst the engine is idling in particular engine overheating warnings/issues
5) Conduct a road test to confirm the issue is now resolved

IMPORTANT: In the event the issue is not resolved the operative must raise a DISS query and await feedback before conducting any further
work
