Transmission Friction Element "G" Performance/Stuck Off

DTC P07AE, sometimes indicated as P07AE00 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a generic fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the hybrid propulsion system causing transmission friction element "g" performance/stuck off.

The DTC P07AE: Transmission Friction Element "G" Performance/Stuck Off code is set when the PCM detects a problem with the transmission friction element "G".
Possible causes of this code include a failed transmission friction element "G", a wiring issue, or a problem with the PCM.
If you suspect that the transmission friction element "G" is the cause of this code, the best way to test it is to remove it and test it for continuity. If the element is found to be bad, it will need to be replaced.
If the code is being caused by a wiring issue, the best way to correct it is to track down and fix the issue.
If the code is being caused by a problem with the PCM, the best way to correct it is to replace the PCM.

  • Ford Motor Company - Electric power steering failure Defect Investigation # PE14030

The office of defects investigation (odi) opened a preliminary evaluation to investigate complaints of the loss of power steering while driving. The subject vehicles are equipped with a rack mounted electric power assisted steering (epas) unit. Some of the complaints alleged that the steering assist failed and resulted in increased steering efforts that contributed to a loss of control and in some cases a crash. The epas system was manufactured by trw automotive for ford and was designated as generation i.These units were first produced and put into vehicle production in july 2008 beginning with the model year (my) 2010 ford fusion and mercury milan. The system is comprised of a mechanical steering rack-and-pinion gear with torque sensor, electric assist motor, motor position sensor and a power steering control module (pscm). The pscm is self-monitoring and designed to detect faults within the system and can store diagnostic trouble codes (dtcs) if a problem is detected. There are 29 potential dtcs the system can detect. Many of these allow the system to go into reduced-assist steering mode by using the default vehicle speed signal should the live speed signal be lost, if voltage to epas system falls below 10.7 or goes above 17 volts, the temperature at the pscm goes above 105c (221f), or if high friction is detected. Some dtcs will cause the system to go into manual steering mode (no assist). On july 1, 2015, ford filed a defect information report (dir) identifying a safety related defect in trw gen i epas systems installed in some of the subject vehicles (nhtsa recall 15v-340, ford no. 15s18).The dir indicated that intermittent electrical connections caused by quality issues associated with conformal coat contamination and ribbon cable pin misalignment within the steering gear motor may lead to a loss of the motor position sensor signal, resulting in a sudden loss of power assist while driving. The recall covers approximately 393,623 vehicles built from september 2010 through february 2012:2011-12 fusion built sep 2010 - feb 2012; 2011-12 lincoln mkz built sep 2010 - feb 2012; 2011 milan built sep 2010 - dec 2010; 2011-13 taurus built sep 2010 - feb 2012; 2011-13 flex with 3.5l gtdi engine built sep 2010 - feb 2012; and 2011-13 mks, mkt with 3.5l gtdi engine built sep 2010 - feb 2012.The repair consists of updating the pscm software to prevent a loss of steering assist while driving. The revised software will provide audible and visual warnings to the driver. If one or more of the following dtcs are stored, C1B00-62, C200B-2f, C200B-61, C200B-62, C200C-2f, C200D-49, U0300-00, U2011-49, U2011-61, U3000-46, U3000-49, U3000-61, U3000-72, U3000-96, P07AE-09, the dealer will replace the epas system at no charge to the owner.Odis analysis of failure data for this pe identified a total of 2,584 complaints to odi and ford and 9,967 ford warranty claims related to the alleged defect. The recalled vehicles account for 1,634 of the complaints and 7,311 of the warranty claims.Odis analysis identified 40 complaints alleging crashes that may be related to loss of steering assist while driving, 20 of which involved vehicles included in fords recall. The information available for the alleged crashes were not sufficient to assess specific causes of the incidents or to verify epas malfunctions in each case. Most of the crashes were low-speed impacts with curbs or roadside objects resulting in wheel or minor body damage.None of the injury claims indicated medical attention was required. In addition, statistical modeling of the failure data by nhtsas national center for statistics and analysis projected 10-year failur

Steering gear failure caused power steering to fail, diagnostic code P07AE-09. Code above associated with recall - steering control module, steering gear replacement for certain 2011-2012 Fusion models. The issue: mechanical failure associated with parts themselves, not with assembly of vehicle. My vehicle's steering gear is covered under a recall but because my vehicle was assembled at a different plant than other covered vehicles of the same model/year, Ford will not cover the cost of the repair. My vehicle should be included in this coverage.

As we speak my car is at the dealership and i had a diagnostic test done. The code that come up on the test was P07AE. After researching the code description it is the same the description that was identified in the recall. Lincoln is not trying to honor the recall because my vin doesn`t show up.

I was driving on a side street at 35 mph and hit a large pothole on the passenger front tire. I pulled over and called aaa to change my tire. Aaa came and changed my tire, and then when i turned my car back on it said power steering failure. I asked the aaa worker if anything was wrong and he checked everything out and couldn't provide a reason for why the power steering would have failed. The steering was extremely difficult to maneuver and required all of my strength to drive the 1 mile left to my home. I drove the car to the Ford dealer the next day and the steering was still very difficult. Ford did not provide me with an explanation for why the power steering failed. I paid $1,923.79 to replace the electronic steering gear and perform programmable module installation (code P07AE in pscm).

While driving on a state highway in sc (speed limit was 55), the low tire pressure light came on followed by "service power steering now" and service advancetrack. Let me note the car was being driven by my 21 year old daughter. The power steering stopped working. My daughter had to drive/wrestle the car without power steering. After getting the tire pressure issued fixed, i took the car to a Ford dealership to have the warnings diagnosed. The car produced code P07AE-09. According to a nhtsa investigation report (pe14030) this has been a problem on 2010 Fusions. The Ford dealer states the car's vin does not provide for a repair as directed in the nhtsa investigation report and wants $1,870 to correct the problem. They are stating it needs a new steering system which is what is described in the nhtsa investigation report.

2010 FORD FUSION with 110000. miles

During a right turn from a highway feeder road onto side street, the 2010 Ford Fusion i was driving suddenly lost power steering and flashed a service power steering now notification on the dashboard information panel. Power steering has not returned after several restarts of the car. The car was immediately taken to a nationwide chain car shop and diagnostic scan was taken. The code that was generated was power steering control module (P07AE). The car is difficult to steer and therefore i consider it a high risk to drive. The repair is cost prohibitive due to a complex design that incorporates additional components into the control module that needs to be replaced.

Power steering assist failed while vehicle was parked and the engine was off. The car was derivable and taken to the dealer the next day. Dealer reported that "pulled codes from pcm. Found code P07AE: 09-c8". Dealer quoted $2,100 to replace steering gear. I requested that they "reset codes" which was done. Power steering assist began working. I believe that you are investigating this issue and that Ford did recall some vin's but not others.
