• Recall 109772 [USA]: If the passenger side sun visor detaches and is propelled rearward, there is an increased risk of occupant injury.
  Mitsubishi motors north america, inc. (mmna) is recalling certain model year 2000-2005 eclipse vehicles manufactured april 5, 1999, to december 17, 2004, 2001-2005 eclipse spyder vehicles manufactured january 19, 2000, to march 18, 2005, 2001-2005 chrysler sebring vehicles manufactured april 17, 2000, to february 21, 2005, and 2001-2005 dodge stratus vehicles manufactured april 17, 2000, to february 22, 2005. In the affected vehicles, the passenger side sun visor may be folded down in such a position that, if the passenger frontal air bag deploys, the passenger side sun visor may detach.
  mmna will notify their owners, and chrysler will notify the chrysler and dodge owners. Dealers will install a tether strap to retain the passenger sun visor, free of charge. • Recall 84381 [USA]: If there is a separation of the ball stud from the housing, the driver can loose steering control, possibly resulting in a vehicle crash.
  Federal-mogul is recalling certain replacement control arm assemblies, part numbers k7425, 10945, fa4510x, k7427, 10946, and fa4611x, sold for use on various passenger vehicles listed above. The ball joint on the control arm assembly can fail causing the ball stud to wear through the control arm housing resulting in noise and/or separation of the ball stud from the housing.

• Recall 68283 [USA]: Separation of the ball stud from the socket of the ball joint housing would allow the control arm to collapse and the wheel to fold in causing loss of steering control, possibly resulting in a crash.
  Qualis automotive is recalling certain aftermarket ball joints sold for use on certain passenger vehicles. The socket may have been excessively hardened which could cause it to crack near the retaining ring groove allowing the ball stud to separate under impact load. The subject ball joints were sold as four part numbers, d10945, d10946, g10945, and g10946. The affected control arms, d10945 and d10946, are stamped with the following dates on the ball joints: 134308, 135708, 100109, 102709, 104109, 105509, 107609, 108909, 110309, 113209, and 116609. The g10945 and g10946 are the same part as the d10945 and d10946 respectively. They are labeled differently depending on the aftermarket customer.

• Recall 56735 [USA]: Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire.
  On certain passenger vehicles, the fuel return line hose fitting on the electric fuel pump may be restricted, causing excessive fuel pressure to build up in the fuel injection system. Excessive fuel pressure may result in a leak in the fuel return hose.

  There are no injuries or fatalities associated with this alleged defect.While conducting this investigation, odi found that the subject cinches meet the load bearing requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard 208, and that many of the reported failures were due to incorrect child safety seat installations. Additionally, the report rate is low (1.60/100k).The information available fails to establish the existence of a defect trend at this time.Further allocation of agency resources to this issue is unwarranted and the preliminary evaluation is being closed.

Only had my 2003 dodge stratus for a few months and having major problems now. When i first got it, everything was in good condition but i still did maintenance work on it anyways. I barely drive my car because i'm a stay at home mom so i don't really put miles on my car. Now my car is suffering problems from within the engine. I was driving one evening and my car just stopped out of nowhere. I did a little research and then went to a mechanic and pretty much my engine is suffering. They also told me that 2.7 engines are very crappy and doesn't last long. I wish i would've knew that before i bought the car. These cars need to be recalled and made better. The car one once moving and then i stop, and put foot on brake, put gear in reverse and give it a little gas, and the vehicle rocks and shakes, and i was park, and put my foot on brake, put the gear in reverse and gave it a litte gas and it rock and shakes. I did just have new spark plugs put on old plugs and wires, and a new fuel tank filler tube

The entire dashboard from driver's side to passenger side as well as from the front where it meets the windshield to where it wraps over and connects to entire panel facing the front seats is warping and pulling away from everything it is suppose to help hold into place. It is now rising above the passenger air bag compartment. If this air bag deploys it will definitely either throw the entire dashboard or massive pieces of it directly toward the passenger and driver (since the warping has dislodged it from everything) or it will deploy and the warped dashboard could cause the air bag to be thrown up toward the windshield, sun visor support & new tether strap which could cause even more issues. The warping has also started to affect every cover it connects to on the dash, pulling & pushing them loose. These items can now also be thrown throughout the vehicle in a crash. I have only owned my vehicle 6 months, the summer heat has not even arrived. At the rate it is warping, i have no doubt it will probably be a minimum of 2 inches above air bag compartment within the next 3 months. Please help us stay safe and recall these dashboards before someone gets seriously injured. Accidents are bad enough, we need to prevent additional injuries and problems that these defective dashboards are obviously going to cause.

Ball joints and control arms recall. They failed as i was driving on the highway causing me to complete an almost 1,000 dollar repair for replacements.

I was backing out of parking space when i heard a cracking noise when i turned the steering wheel.Then the airbag light came on.Then i noticed the horn did not work. Upon investigation on the internet i am 100% convinced that the clock spring has broken.Further investigation shows there is a recall on chrysler-dodge clock springs but only on certain year-models which doesn't make sense. The year or model of the vehicle is irrelevant if the clock spring part in question (the one in the recall) was/is still being installed on vehicles not in the recall like mine a 2003 dodge stratus a little investigation on your end will clearly show this to be the case. I'd be willing to bet that my clock spring has the same manufacturing numbers as the recalled clock springs . *tr

While driving my 2003 dodge stratus, i was in the process of turning and i heard a kind of snap and then i felt and heard a grinding in my steering wheel. For about a week whenever i had to make a turn there was this noise list a spring was caught and almost would get caught and i would have to quickly jerk the steering wheel so it wouldn't get stuck and keep me from turning. My airbag light came on and stays on, so it won,t deploy in an accident, my horn doesn't work, and i lost function of my speed control. I was told this is my clockspring. This faulty clockspring was recalled in many dodge vehicles but has yet to be recalled in my vehicle. See safety recall no. B24 (11/01/2002) for 1998 dodge vehicles but dodge continued to use these faulty clocksprings that in fact should have a lifetime warranty. *tr

Was stopped at a traffic light and the car "chugged" and then stalled. It restarted immediately and i passed through traffic. This has happened about 8-10 since it's first occurrence. Last occurrence was in a drive-thru waiting for service and the car "sputtered" and then stalled. It took several attempts to get the car started again. *tr

Brake line between gas tank and frame of car had rubbed a pin hole in line because of tight fit , i guess. Gas tank had to be dropped to find problem, master cylinder was replaced first thinking this was the problem but, it wasn't. *tr

The rear strut mounts to the body are made of aluminum and are corroded and powdery. They have broken and i can see they are no longer holding anything. *tr

Same dash warping problem as many others. I suspect this it is more widespread than what you see here. I'm concerned that the warping could affect air bag deployment.

I own a 2003 dodge stratus and it suffered the same failure of its 2.7 liter engine as many others have experienced. The car does not run due to complete engine failure. *tr

I own a 2003 dodge stratus coupe(engineered by mitsubishi) and my clear coat has started to fade leaving white spots on the top of my car right behind the sunroof. It has also started to fade on the trunk of my vehicle as well. This issue only seems to ba happening to the cars manufactured with black paint. Other cars i have seen with this problem also manufactured by mitsubishi are 1995-2000 chrysler sebring coupe, dodge avenger coupe, mitsubishi eclipse, mitsubishi galant. Also, 2001-2005 dodge stratus coupe, chrysler sebring coupe, mitsubishi eclipse and galant. The condition worsens over time and eventually start to go down the a,b and c pillar and hood of the car. Again this is only with the black paint. This a very common problem with the black paint on these cars and as the owner of one i would like something done about it. *tr

I own a 2003 dodge stratus coupe in which the dashboard is warping and coming a loose. I purchased this car used in 2008 in great condition, however after owning it for a few months the dashboard started pulling away from the speedometer, the air condition vents and other places on the board. Just recently, i have noticed that the problem continues to spread and now the glove department has started unhinge itself. This has become very unsettling because i am afraid that the airbag which is only a few inches above the glove department will eventually deploy. I believe this is a serious matter that must be addressed. I have researched and found out that several owners of car are facing the same problem. Not mention, i have also discovered that a white film appears on the interior of the window above the dash which causes a glare and a impairment when i drive. I have to constantly wipe and clean the inside window when i drive in order to see. This is very dangerous especially when condensation builds up on the inside. And the condensation builds up because the dashboard has flipped up towards the windshield. I should not have to constantly wipe the inside of the windshield as if i'm a human wiper blade. *tr

He had to pump the brake pedal twice to stop the vehicle, but by then he had rear ended the preceding vehicle. He was not injured badly, but is very sore. A police report was filed. I have a 2003 dodge stratus se. The check engine light has been coming on along with the oil light. I have been told i have a bad pcm/ecm. I have taken it to the dealership and been advised that the computer in my car should not be bad this soon. The dashboard material is unstable. Near the windshield defrost vents it has started to bend upwards along the vents edges. The passenger vent, next to the airbag, has also popped out a little due to stress from the dashboards. *tr

The rear strut mounts on our 2003 dodge stratus are made of a "pot type" metal. The car has mid 30k miles and the strut mounts are corroded to the point they fell apart. The shock was actually bound up in the middle of the spring. This fortunately was caught by my wife. This is a safety hazard and could result in an out of control situation. Strut could dig into tire. Car can fall on it's own suspension. How can you control a car if it is on an unstable platform? *tr

A year later, the vehicle is experiencing the same failure. In addition, the fuel gauge dial continues to shift to empty once fuel is placed in the vehicle. She has made several attempts to reach chrysler, but has been unsuccessful. There is a recall on the fuel injector, but she does not know if it pertains to her vehicle. The failure mileage was 81,000.

My girlfriend and i we're pulling out of a gas station and turning to the right when suddenly we heard a "snap" and the car stalled. It started right back up, where i was then greeted by my air bag dummy. Horn and cruise control no longer work either. Talked the dealership and they said it would cost at least $80 worth of "investigative work" to make sure it was a clock spring (which i could tell the second it happened). Said that the part and labor would be $200 after the detective work of course. No recall, not available at parts stores, so no driver air bag for me. Hope dodge recognizes the problem, it's all over the internet. *tr

I bought a 2003 dodge stratus on 12/29/07 from junge in center point ia. Today when i turned the wheel i heard a click sound and the airbag light came on and has stayed on. Estimates to have this fixed are $250-$350. All dealers have told me this is a safety hazard and my operator's manual concurs that my airbag may not work. Dodge headquarters will not do anything about this. To me i am unsure why turning a wheel which is necessary should compromise the airbag and safety of the vehicle.*cn

1. I took my car to have the oil changed. 2. Engine light came on & was reset. 3. Fuel pump needs replacing. I only have 57k miles and there is a recall on other models (03v443000). I also have the airbag light on which is identified as the clockspring and has also been recalled in other similar models. Neither of these are shown as recalled on my vehicle. *tr

Paint on roof of vehicle has turned white (black vehicle). Area is white but will go away when wet. Area comes back as it dries. White area is rough and is slowly spreading along the roof of the vehicle. *tr

The contact stated that vehicle would not accelerate after coming to a complete stop, and it was not accelerating properly when going up a hill. The contact stated that when trying to accelerate after she came to a complete stop, the rpms would go up but the vehicle wouldn't advance. The contact took the vehicle to dealership in december, at which time she was told that her transmission had failed. The contact stated that the dealership said to have transmission fixed would cost $5,000.00. As a result of the injuries she did not have full recollection of the incident and could not provide any details of the accident or the damage to the vehicle. A police was report was filed. Car was involved in a frontal collision and the airbags didn't deploy causing person to hit head and have to have emergency treatment at the hospital. Dt*: the contact stated while attempting to put the vehicle into gear the transmission would not engage. The gear shifter would maneuver into drive and reverse but the transmission would never engage. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop for inspection. It was determined the transmission failed with 5 transmission codes. On several occasion prior to the transmission failure during regularly schedule maintenance there was diagnostic testing performed however the test showed no transmission codes. The manufacturer was alerted.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 55 mph, the check engine light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was restarted and taken to the dealership which determined the sensors needed to be replaced. Also, the power steering failed. The dealership determined the power steering pump leaked causing the failure.

After having my transmission lines repaired due to a leak i decided to take my car out on a test drive on the highway. Well coming into town i began to slow down from 65 mph to 55 mph when all of a sudden my car began to accelerate rapidly. The brakes would not slow it down. The check engine light came on. Fearing for my life i began to gently pull the emergency break which slowed me down to about 20 mph in which i took a turn into a parking lot. When i finally got the car stopped it jerked forward and the engine revved up to approx 600,000 rpms. It stayed like that (parked at home) until several days later when the dealership was finally able to check into it and here is what they "claim". Somehow between the time they had it and the few hours that i had driven it since i had it back, they claim that i broke the cover to the idle air temp sensor and that it became lodged in the automatic idle speed motor and would not allow the car to idle down. Now what concerns me is exactly how can i break that cover? I am never under the hood of the car unless i check fluids. The cover to that thing is extremely thick. I believe that the mechanic busted it when he was working on the transmission but they refuse to admit guilt. Also i have heard a crunching sound coming from the rear end in the cold weather. They informed me that the rear control arm bushings are dried and cracked and will need to be replaced. This car is not even 3 years old. Why am i having so many problems with this and putting more money into it then it's worth? It's not fair. And yes i keep up with regular maintenance on it. I have a 4 year old that rides in the car regularly with me. She could of been hurt or killed. *jb

I have had two {2} recent events, where the car keeps trying to go forward while attempting to park the auto. First occurrence was about 8 months ago and caused severe damage to the auto. Last night 10/13/05 it happened again without any damage. *jb

The problem starts with the engine misfireing some, then the service engine soon light comes on and i loose two cylendars. Sometimes the service engine soon light turns off for several days but then returns.

The engine, a caliber to the steering wheel, air conditioning, brakes, and the flywheel were replaced. There is a still a squeaking noise and consumer does not know where it i comes from. Reported noise in front end of 2002 dodge stratus, dealer found no problem. While driving vehicle down the highway the left lower ball joint failed and vehicle lost sterring abilty and power ability. When wheel came loose it damaged the left front fender and the half shaft. Vehicle was disabled. Vehicle only has 64,000 miles. Parts are being replaced and the old parts will be available for inspection

I own a 2003 stratus, the paint began to fade back in 2005, since then i have contacted the manufacturer several times by phone and also by 4 certified letters. First they told me claim was denied do to the warranty. However there is nothing in the warranty regarding fading paint only rust issues. After several more attends to fix the problem, one of the customer service agents told me it was up to the dealership to repaint my car. They do not want to help due to some kind of numbers game. It is obvious that this a product defect. Daimler chrysler has yet to give me a valid reason for them not wanting to have my car fixed. I purchased a 2003 stratus new. Shortly after purchase the paint started flaking off the top. The dealership repainted the top without complaint. The shop manager said they had alot of them with the same problem. 500 miles after the warranty expired the entire car started to loose the paint. I returned to the dealership with the car and after being put off for five weeks was told the district manager said to bad they were not going to fix the car. Reliable mechanics refused to change the oil on my 2003 dodge stratus because they don't want to be responsible for an engine which has only 47,200 miles on it.Mechanics state there is a major problem with this engine and sludge build up, and it is likely to need repairs of the engine, ranging from $3,000 and up, soon. As i've done some investigating, i have seen this as a major problem. We are faithful with our oil changes, and feel this company needs to recall this engine and fix this problem. I have three children and i have been reading that these engines just die in the middle of the road with no warning. Dodge will have a much bigger problem if someone gets killed because of their carelessness to fix this problem. I really feel this needs to be adressed asap before someone or some family gets seriously injured.*ak

My car has 41,000 miles. It is a 2003 dodge stratus. The past week i have noticed the transmission slipping/knocking. That's problem 1. The second problem is that last wednesday i was backing out of my parking place at work, and i turned my steering wheel. I heard this pop and then the air bag light came on . According to the owners manual the air bag will not deploy. I do have the car in the shop. The technican working on the car says the air bag is not going to be covered. They stated that this was a normal transaxle operation and noise. They would not let the service people fix the car. This has been going on for about one year. The vehicle had been at the dealership 3 times. The dealer was not able to fix the problem because of chrysler. The car increased in noise after 35 mph. The owner has taken the car to the dealership to be fixed, but chrysler won't let them fix it. I bought my dodge stratus in feb. Of 2004, it is a 2003. Since then it has been in the shop 5 times due to the motor in the window going out, the air conditioning going out, the cruise control went out, the cd player is not functioning correctly and now the safety feature (air bag system) is failing as well. I have owned other cars in the past with higher miles than this vehicle and i never had the problems that i am having with this one. I am upset with this vehicle. I feel that buying a newer car with low miles should leave the buyer feeling happy and safe with their decision. However, i am neither happy with this vehicle and i do not feel safe in this vehicle knowing now that there is something wrong with my air bag system. The service department has fixed most of the problems so far (they are unable to get the air bag system looked for a few days...So much for safety matters!). I am extremely unhappy with this vehicle and with the chrysler (dodge) company.*jb

The dash in my car shortly after i bought it stated coming apart. It has completely separated from the defroster. In addition, all of the vent covers, ect. No longer are secure. The entire dash and components are in horrible condition.. I called the dealer and they said it was not covered in the warranty which was bumper to bumper. In`addition my defroster is horrible. When you have it in floor mode it blows on the windshield and it fogs up constantly. The electrical componets go crazy every once in a while, no power to the car ect. Have to turn car on and off and few times and then it will be fine. One of my wipers came loose and i have to keep a wrench in my car at all time is case i need to tighten it in the middle of a rain storm. It will fall right off and the metal will be dragging across my window. *jb

Steering column makes a popping noise. Airbag light comes on and is in-operative according to dodge dealer. Cruise control is also in-operative. When asked about the safety of driving vehicle without an operative airbag they replied "if you are so concerned with safety, then park the car and don't drive it." notice on websites there are re-calls issued for other vehicles with same defect but none on stratus at this time. Dealer was very rude when notified of problem and charged $60 to verify the problem, when i informed them what it was to begin with.*ak

Extended stopping distance, steering wheel shook immensely while going down hills trying to stop. Had to replace roters before 20,000 miles was on the car. The car was so new that the roters couldn't be found anywhere but the dealership (of course at a very nice price).

There is a loud popping noise coming from the driver's side wheel. The dealer has attampted to fix the problem atleast 4 times. The last time they tried they attempted to fix all four wheels, even though ii only stated a noise from the drivers side wheel, now the rear wheel pops really loud over pumps and in turns. I contacted the manufacture and so far they have not called me back. In addition to this, i have had to have the air conditioner fixed twice, a new radio put in, since the last time it was in there my emergency flashers dont work, when i first bought the car my head lights didnt work, and the valve cover gasket replaced because it was leaking oil. The valve cover gasket was fixed only for a few days before the same problem of a lack of horsepower returned. And last but not least everytime i drop my car off to the dealer, they keep it for 2-3 weeks at a time. One time they even put 200 miles on my car before they would return it.*ak

I have 2003 dodge status with the 2.4l 4 cylinder engine and automatic transmission. After coming back from a trip, most of which was at freeway speeds, i was stopped at a red light with my foot on the brake when the engine speed suddenly jumped from idle speed to 2000 rpms. The car luched forward causing me to almost hit the car in front of me. At the next 2 stops the engine speed jumped from idle speed to 1400 rpms. For the next week the problem did not happen again during normal around town driving. The following week i again had to make another trip at freeway speeds and this time stitting at stop signs the engine idle would sometimes drop to the point of almost stalling then recover. I have taken the car twice to the dealer and they can find nothing wrong. The second time a mechanic went with me and witnessed the idle speed dropping. The service manager at swanty's chrysler contacted the factory and he told me yesterday that per the factory this is common to chrysler 4 cylinder engines in hot weather. The days the engine acted up the most were very hot. The temperatures were 128 and 124 degrees. The engine idle slowing problem is annoying to say the least, but the engine speeding up is a safety hazzard. The last time i took the car in i was about to leave the dearler and the engine was idling in park and i did see the idle speed jump up once to 1400 rpms. Myself and my wife are very concerned and the dealer is stumped. There are no trouble codes showing, but i feel this is a computer problem because the engine and transmission computers are under the hood and our commom 120+ degree days are causing the computers to malfunction because of the extremely high under hood temperatures. I have also noticed that my fuel mileage is dereasing significantly which could be related to this problem. The dealer has been very understanding and has been trying to help, but this seems to be a factory defect.

The car had been wrecked before we bought it and we were never told about it. It has front end damage. It is in the shop now. And i am left without a vehicle.

However, after 3 times, they were unable to solve the problem. I had to take it to another dodge dealer, which required 2 more attempts to solve the problem, requiring a complete replacement of the window glass. Since then, i have had to take it back to get the window stops tightened or replaced.*ak

2003 stratus sxt. Numerous water leaks. I bought this car brand new in march 2003. By april it had a really strong mildew smell. It was found to have a water leak in the trunk(after they tore apart the front of my car looking for the leak). They wanted to shampoo the carpet, i made them replace the carpet. Since then the car has been back to in the shop 3 other times and they have found 7 other water leaks. I am extremely disappointed with this car help!!!!!! I've tried to talk to the manager at hendrick dodge where i bought the car, but he was a complete jerk. I've tried contacting the manufacturer, but they say that since the leak was repaired there is nothing they can do. I can understand maybe 1 leak but 8? When the brakes were applied, there was a "hissing" noise and the pedal became intermittently hard to press or went all the way to the floor. The dealer diagnosed and repaired a leaking brake booster, however a few days later the problem recurred. *jb

The brakes made a grinding noise when depressed which was either caused by the calipers or the brake hose collapsing per the mechanic. The rotors were turned, however it did not remedy the grinding noise, extended stopping distance and a smell of metal rubbing when braking. Dealership was not willing to assist. *tt *jb

I own a 2003 dodge stratus sxt sedan 2.4l. When i bought the car i happened to notice that there was rusting on the axles & brakes to the front end of the car. The second day i had the car it completely shut itself down and wouldn't start, immediately my car dealership picked up the car and said it was because the battery "died". I did not take note of the rusting because the dealership said "all dodge cars are rusted...*all*"a month later my car started making noises to the front end of the car slightly, then it was progressing towards january with vibration of the car past 50 mph, i decided to call the dealership when it became out of hand and they were closed, then the monday the car shut itself down and the steering wheel locked into place while i was turning a corner and it hit probably a 5 inch high curb..Of course the "rusted" right front end "axle", control bar & gear controls broke off. Found it interesting that all of these incidents i had to pay out of pocket for because this dealership says in other words that we're lying and it isn't their fault nor was it a mechanical defect. Also i have noted that my doors doesn't close properly & my windows slip out of place. After the incident of my car locking up and my axle being broken i had to take out of pocket once again $1,800 and they fixed it..But there was still problems..The vibration was still there and now there was a knocking/cracking sound to the front & rear ends of the car, and i mean it was loud..Took the car back for the oil change and they said they heard nothing nor was there a vibration!.A month later i took the car back i said this was ridiculous that this noise is still there and yes of course when you have a huge brawl and fight they do find the so called "problem"....The pins to hold my brake pads in place weren't even there!...And vibration again? None to be found...Yes i am the driver and the vibration is still there.*jb
