The inboard retention nut used to maintain hub bearing assembly can loosen resulting in an abs light indication, noise, and/or wheel separation.

• Recall 90052 [USA]: This condition may cause inadequate sealing and loss of engine oil, possibly resulting in a fire.
  Certain honeywell fram racing brand hp4 and hp8 oil filters that were manufactured from may 25, 2006, through september 14, 2007, and sold for use as replacement equipment for vehicles list above. The affected filters are marked with a date code a61451 through a72571 sequentially. The date code and part number appear on the filter housing. Fram racing hp4 and hp8 oil filters not bearing a date code in this range are not affected by this recall. The gasket of the oil filter becomes more pliable under high temperatures and pressures.

  Certain replacement fuel filters, fram brand name p/n g3727, with date codes x52911 through x60801 sequentially or x600141 and a mexico country or origin marking on the fuel filter housing manufactured from october 18, 2005, through march 21, 2006, sold for use on the vehicles listed above and on certain school buses. As a result, the o-ring may not seat correctly on the fuel line.

• Recall 51787 [USA]: If one cable fractures, the remaining cable may retain the tailgate in a horizontal position. if both cables fracture, the tailgate would drop and strike the top surface of the rear bumper. if anyone is sitting or standing on the horizontal surface of the tailgate when both cables fractured, they could fall and be injured. on vehicles without a bumper, the tailgate may drop to a lower position.
  Certain pickup trucks have galvanized-braided-steel tailgate support cables used to support the tailgate in the full open (horizontal) position. Over time these cables can corrode and fracture when loads are applied to them.

• Recall 33763 [USA]: The bedliner can become detached from the pickup while it is motion, possibly endangering following motorists or pedestrians.
  Aftermarket pickup truck over-the-rail bedliners manufactured for installation on 1999-2004 chevrolet silverado and gmc sierra pickup trucks. The toggle wing assembly used to attach the bedliner to the truck bed is not engaging fully in the stake pocket of the pickup truck.

• Recall 5950 [USA]: During braking, the pedal will be lower than normal and stopping distances will be longer. if this occurs when stopping distance is limited, a crash could occur.
  Vehicle description: light duty pickup trucks and sport utility vehicles. Some of these vehicles have a clearance condition between the front right-hand brake pipe and the body cross sill that could decrease to the point of allowing contact during the life of the vehicle. If contact occurs and the brake pipe becomes damaged, in half of the brake system there can be a loss of brake fluid and pressure. The brake warning lamp will be activated when the brake fluid level reaches the indicator limit.
  dealers will inspect the front right-hand brake pipe for wear. If there are signs of wear, this section of the brake pipe will be replaced with a new designed brake pipe section. If there are not signs of wear on the brake pipe, the dealer will install a spacer clip to ensure sufficient clearance between the brake pipe and the body cross sill.

• Recall 6337 [USA]: This contact with the wheel rim could, in time, cause the brake hose to become worn to the point that brake fluid leakage could occur. if this occurred, loss of front brakes is possible.
  This is not a safety recall in accordance with the safety act. However, it is deemed a safety improvement campaign by the agency. Vehicle description: 1/2 ton light duty pickup trucks. On certain trucks, failure to follow the service procedure set forth in the service manual for removal of the front brake caliper can result in movement of the front brake hose relative to its knuckle mounting bracket. If this movement results in increased length between the bracket and the banjo fitting that attaches to the brake caliper, it is possible for the brake hose to come in contact with the wheel rim.
  dealers will attach a notice label to the front brake hoses stating that the calipers must be supported when removed.

• Recall 10970 [USA]: If this condition is ignored, the steering gear to frame can wear and/or fatigue the attaching bolts to the point of breakage or the bolts backing out. if all the bolts break or back out, the steering gear would separate from the frame resulting in a loss of steering control.
  Vehicle description: extended cab 4-wheel drive pickup trucks. Some of these vehicles have a lower than specified torque on all three of the steering gear to frame attachment bolts. The bolts can loosen over time allowing the steering gear to move. This loosening can result in some unresponsive steering feel and some noise to the driver.

  On certain vehicles, the galvanized-braided-steel tailgate support cables used to support the tailgate in the full open (horizontal) position can corrode over time and fracture when loads are applied to them. Tailgate support cable corrosion may not be visible because of the plastic sheathing covering the cable. If one cable fractured, the remaining cable may retain the tailgate in a horizontal position. If the remaining cable was weakened by corrosion, it could fracture within moments of the first cable fracture. If both cables fractured, the tailgate would suddenly drop approximately 10 degrees and strike the top surface of the rear bumper. If anyone is sitting or standing on the horizontal surface of the tailgate when both cables fracture, they could fall and be injured. On vehicles without a rear bumper, the tailgate may drop to a lower position. Correction: dealers will replace the existing galvanized support cables with stainless steel support cables.

Engines may have been built with the wrong linear exhaust gas recirculation (legr) valve which could limit the required air flow rate. • Brake line corrosion failure investigation # PE10010

  The office of defects investigation (odi) received defect petition dp10-003 on march 2, 2010, requesting the investigation of model year (my) 2003 chevrolet silverado 2500hd 4wd pickup trucks for corrosion failures of the vehicle brake lines.Dp10-003 was granted and on march 30, 2010, preliminary evaluation pe10-010 was opened on more than six million model year 1999 through 2003 light trucks and sport utility vehicles manufactured and sold by general motors corporation (gm).On july 2, 2010, odi received gms response to an information request, which included gms assessment of the frequency and safety consequences of the alleged defect. Gm stated that:(1) the brake system of the subject vehicles is split front/rear and should a brake pipe suddenly fail for any reason, the affected vehicle would be capable of stopping with the pressure supplied by the remaining circuit; (2) the subject vehicles were designed to meet the hydraulic circuit partial failure requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standards 105 and 135, light vehicle brake systems; and (3) should a brake fluid leak occur for any reason, the brake system malfunction indicator lamp (mil) would illuminate and warn the driver before the brake fluid level was low enough to cause a loss of line pressure.Odis and gms analysis indicates that 85 percent of the complaints occurred on vehicles used primarily in states that use salt on the roads during winter months (connecticut, delaware, district of columbia, illinois, indiana, iowa, maine, maryland, massachusetts, michigan, minnesota, missouri, new hampshire, new jersey, new york, ohio, pennsylvania, rhode island, vermont, west virginia and wisconsin).Overall the complaint rates per 100,000 vehicles for salt belt states is 43.0 and non-salt belt is 3.0.In approximately 25 percent of the complaints the brake pipe failure occurred suddenly, with no warning (i.E., no mil, brake fluid loss warning), and resulted in extended stopping distances.In 30 of these the increase in stopping distance that resulted was a factor in the crash and in 10 others the vehicle was intentionally steered off the road or into another lane of travel in order to avoid a crash.This investigation has been upgraded to an engineering analysis (ea11-001) for subject vehicles sold or currently registered in salt belt states to further assess the scope, frequency and safety risks associated with sudden failures of corroded brake pipes that can result in decreased brake effectiveness. • Throttle sticking closed investigation # EA02015

  This investigation involves the general motors corporation (gm)throttle body (tb) utilized in model year (my) 1999-2002 silverado, sierra, tahoe, suburban, avalanche and yukon (subject vehicle(s)) with 4.8l, 5.3l, and 6.0l engines. The tb valve may intermittently stick in a closed position.In such a situation, an operator may apply additional accelerator pedal force to increase engine speed.The application of additional accelerator pedal force, to open a stuck throttle valve, may open the throttle valve more than intended and, in turn, accelerate the engine and vehicle more than intended and reasonably expected by the driver.On august 1, 2002, the office of defects investigation (odi), of the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa), opened this engineering analysis.The investigation revealed that two factors may cause the defect: 1) tb manufacturing process problems; and 2) accumulation of deposits (a pcv system by-product) on or around the tb throttle valve and bore.Odi concludes that the tb performs in a defective manner after analyzing gm¿s data submissions, and test data collected by the vehicle research and test center (vrtc).Fifty-nine crashes are alleged to have occurred as a result of gm¿s tb defect.The majority of the crashes involve a single vehicle, engaging in a close quarter vehicle maneuver (or low speed), and causing only minor property damage.Four out of the fifty-nine crashes involve injury, and those injuries were minor.Although gm¿s tb is defective, based on the evidence gathered, odi has found that the accelerator pedal force required to open a stuck throttle valve is negligible, and the throttle valve does not stick in the open position.Therefore this engineering analysis (ea02-015) will be closed at this time.The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist.For a detailed discussion of the tb component and testing, please see the attached report.

I was driving home from work on 421 in eminence, ky. I pushed the brake pedal & i had no brakes right in front of harry hill park. Gm & i are very lucky that no one was killed yesterday. The brake line corroded & leaked the brake fluid, so when i pushed the pedal, it went right to the floor. The vehicle is pretty clean & after checking many blogs & youtube videos this is a very common problem on gm trucks. I checked the recalls on this truck & the tailgate cable is recalled for breaking under load due to corrosion; this could injure somebody, but not as vital compared to the braking system as someone could die in a horrible incident. I would greatly appreciate your attention to this serious matter. Thank you

I got under the truck to change the oil then i noticed a crack in the frame where the cross member is. Cross member runs across frame support

Tl* the contact owns a 1999 gmc sierra 1500. While driving on a country road that was rocky and bumpy, the contact lost control of the vehicle. As a result, the contact drove into a ditch and crashed into a tree. The driver's side frontal air bag partially deployed, but failed to prevent the contact's head from making contact with the steering wheel. The contact sustained head injuries that required medical treatment. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was not diagnosed by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure to determine if they could investigate. The vehicle remained parked at the contact's residence. The approximate failure mileage was 166,000.

I purchased this truck a few months ago. Within a week i had a co worker point out the bed was leaning toward the cab. A few weeks later we got under the truck to find out what was going on. We noticed alot of rust. I looked on line to see how to fix it and found alot of people were dealing with the same issue. I decided to get some sheet metal and weld it to the frame. I then asked my boss who owns a welder if he could help me with it. He said there wasn't anything left to weld to. Then the truck started not going into park. And to start it you'd have to start it in neutral and it would not stay in park, it would roll and the emergency brake no longer worked. I then had my parents to take the truck to a body shop to see if they could repair it. Both body shops said it was not repairable that the frame was rusted out and needed replaced. One shop said that the parking issue could be from the frame bending, but did not know without getting into that. They also told them that the truck was unsafe to be on the road. I financed this truck for $5500 and now i'm paying payments on a truck i can't even use.

I have a 1999 gmc sierra 1500 z71 with 107000 on it a frame cracked under passengers door and at rear shock mount call gm told me to bring it to a dealer for a frame inspection told me frame is rotted nothing they would do i think it's a safety issue shouldn't rot out had a 1997 chevy 1500 never any rust on that truck it had 245000 miles when i sold it .If you need pictures of the rot on my 1999 gmc sierra i will get

The contact had the vehicle towed to quality chevrolet (1292 route 9 south old bridge, nj, 08857; 732-316-2600) where it was diagnosed that the brake line exploded and areas of the braking system were rusted, which caused the braking system to fail. The vehicle's braking system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 216,000.

During normal straight stop from 50 mph on rural county road, intersection with 70 mph crossing 4-lane divided state highway, pedal went to floor and braking ability was minimal. Emergency brake needed to complete the stop before entering crossing high-speed traffic. Upon inspection, discovered brake line ruptured due to rust with massive instantaneous fluid loss.

Brake line failer do to poor routing from factory and substandard material used on oem lines (bare steel) . Always replace oem lines with powder coated aftermarket or stainless "only" inspect "all lines & hardware & clips to frame ect for corrosion". Brake failer occured while towing another auto with trailer attached no warning.

While driving on a street in my neighborhood, we found that the ignition switch could be moved to the "off" or "accessory" position while driving. Noticed that steering, brakes, and other components became disabled. Luckily we were able to safely move the vehicle to the roadside and assess the situation. A problem like this could result in catastrophic system failure in the vehicle while driving at high speeds, and could cause possible death if we weren't aware of this problem. Please inform other vehicle owners of this possible dangerous issue.
