The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Condition/Concern
1
Owners may question the percentage of UV protection or tint offered by the windshield or side glass
Recommendation/Instructions
Ultra Violet Ray Protection:
Windshield reduces UV rays down to 4% or less.
Front side door glass reduces UV rays down to 35% or less.
Rear window, doors, or 1/4 glass reduces UV rays down to 35% or less (Without RPO AJ1)
Rear window, doors, or 1/4 glass reduces UV rays down to 10% or less if equipped with Privacy Glass (With RPO AJ1)
Tint Percentage:
Windshields are SOLAR glass with a light transmittance of >/=70%
Front door glass are Solar glass with a light transmission of >/=70%
Rear door glass, quarter windows and back windows can use either Solar glass (>/=70%) or Privacy glass, which has a light transmittance of (nominally) 20%.
*Basically, if the glass is 'light green' in color, it is solar glass. If it is the dark gray/black glass, it is Privacy glass.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the
remaining steps do not need to be performed.
GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may
occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools,
safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that
your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
