Head previously (8/13/01) reported to you the refusal of the dealer/mfg. To replace an inoperative seat belt buckle that is part of the passive motorized seat belt assembly . Requested $330 to repair/replace. By coincidence, the buckle on the driver's side assembly failed in exactly the same way only hours after initial report filed. While both buckles can be connected, they cannot easilyt be removed, and represent a dangerous safety hazard in the event of a crash. Exiting the vehicle would be more difficult. Believe that repair/replacement of buckles could be covered as part of lifetime warranty of vehicle restraint system. Refusal to cover as warranty item is against spirit and intent of vehicle safety regulations.

Took my vehicle to the local dealer to repair the passenger-side passive motorized seat belt assembly. Dealer repaired under warranty, but refused to replace the defective seat belt buckle that connects to the assembly. Requested $330 for repair. Since system is not fully operative with defective buckle, believe this is an attempt to circumvent the vehicle safety regulations. It violates the spirit, if not the letter, of the safety regulations. Am concerned that inoperative buckle could be a serious safety hazard in event of crash, as it would make exit from vehicle difficult. Mfg. Should replace faulty buckle as part of lifetime warranty on restraint system.
