  • Recall 41293 [USA]: This does not meet the requirements of the standard.
    Certain passenger vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 208, 'occupant crash protection.' the bilingual english/spanish removable air bag warning labels affixed to the dash and to the sunvisor do not meet the size requirements of the standard.
    mitsubishi caribbean will mail a customer notification letter containing a written description and a graphic of the bi-lingual dashboard air bag warning label. In addition, all current 2000-2004 nativa owners will also receive replacement air bag alert labels for the sun visors. This recall is expected to begin during march or april 2005. The notification to the nativa owners is expected to begin during april or may 2005. Owners should contact mitsubishi caribbean at 1-787-251-8715.
    the manufacturer's petition which requested that nhtsa determine this fmvss noncompliance does not create an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety was partially denied on january 26, 2005.   • Recall 55624 [USA]: If the fuel leveling valve does not seal properly, fuel may leak onto the ground. fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire.
    On certain sport utility vehicles, when the fuel tank is full and the vehicle is parked facing forward on an upward slope, the fuel tank leveling valve may not maintain proper sealing in the event the fuel expands from a rise in the ambient temperature.
    dealers will replace the leveling valve. The recall began on august 30, 2004. Owners should contact mitsubishi at 1-800-222-0037 or mitsubishi caribbean at 1-787-251-8715.

  • Recall 34596 [USA]: This information could potentially result in consumers loading their vehicles beyond the gross vehicle weight rating (gvwr).
    On certain sport utility vehicles, the vehicle capacity weights as stated on the tire and loading information label are in error.

  • Recall 2004255 [Canada]: Fuel supply
    On certain vehicles, when the fuel tank is full and the vehicle is parked forward on an upward slope, the fuel tank leveling valve may not maintain proper sealing in the event the fuel expands from the rise in ambient temperature. If the fuel leveling valve does not seal properly, fuel may leak onto the ground. Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire. Correction: dealers will replace the fuel leveling valve.

Heat gauge is faulty and it will blow hot heat only out of driver side vents and blows cold out of the rest of the vents. Heat gauge says its running fine but it is really overheating to the boiling point. I am not sure how long it has had this problem as i just bought it 2 weeks ago and have had no use for the heat till now and never drove it far enough till today when i noticed the heat gauge and heard it boiling over with steam coming out of the hood. *tr

After fully refueling the vehicle, it began to leak fuel at approximatelty four drops per second. The contact also stated that the vehicle leaked fuel when parked on inclines. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 200,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 mitsubishi montero. While driving approximately 60 mph and attempting to engage the brakes, the brake pedal was hard to depress. The emergency brake had to be activated in order to stop the vehicle. Also, the contact heard an abnormal noise from the driver side of the instrument panel when the brakes were applied. The dealer stated that the hydraulic booster system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that the vehicle was previously remedied according to nhtsa campaign number: 01v254001 (service brakes, hydraulic). The approximate failure mileage was 189,000.

2004 mitsubishi montero sport i purchased the vehicle from drivetime and the service engine light came on immediately. It went off after i turned it off. 2 days later the a/t temp light came on. The 4h light came on and the anti lock brake light came on. I called the warranty company and i was sent to a mechanic who removed all the electric connectors and pronounced the car fixed. 2 days later the a/t temp light came on again i was sent to a transmission specialist who changed the transmission 2 weeks later the light is on again anytime i drive more that 40 miles. *tr

As of october 9, 2007, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle. The current and failure mileage were 125,000.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving on slippery roads the consumer hit a puddle and rolled over a fence into a water reserve. Upon impact, both frontal airbags failed to deploy and the driver's seat belt failed. The seat belt came unlatched while the vehicle rolled over the fence. The seat belt was able to latch after the accident. The contact sustained back and neck injuries along with loss of movement to the hand. During the accident, the contact's knee hit the steering column because of the seat belt failure.
