• Recall 5898 [USA]: Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source can result in a fire.
  Vehicle description: minivans. The fuel tank vent hose allows air to vent from the fuel tank during refueling. Cracks have developed in the vent hose. If (1) the fuel tank is overfilled, not allowing excess fuel in the vent hose to flow back into the tank, (2) the vehicle is driven only a short distance after refueling and, (3) there is subsequently significant heating of the fuel tank, the fuel in the tank can expand into the vent hose and leak fuel.

• Recall 13890 [USA]: This condition can cause a catastrophic failure of the battery which could lead to an engine fire or battery explosion.
  Vehicle description: passenger mini vans equipped with automotive batteries supplied by gnb technologies. These batteries have a defective negative post that can cause acid leakage and related corrosion damage.
  dealers will replace these batteries. Until a new battery is obtained, owners should not attempt to "jump start" these batteries.
  owner notification has already begun.All owners have been notified and vehicles have been repaired.No further action is necessary on this campaign.

• Recall 2001011 [Canada]: Fuel supply
  On certain vehicles, cracks could develop in the fuel tank vent hose. If (1) the fuel tank is overfilled, not allowing excess fuel in the vent hose to flow back into the tank, (2) the vehicle is driven only a short distance after refueling and, (3) there is subsequently significant heating of the fuel tank, the fuel in the tank can expand into the vent hose and leak fuel. • Fuel tank vent hose leakage investigation # EA00015

  Periodic exposure to liquid gasoline may result in extraction of antidegradants from the subject fuel tank vent hose.Hoses which have suffered loss of antidegradant can develop cracks in areas of high strain.Fuel may spray or drip from cracked vent hoses following tank fill.Starting at job#1 1998 my (california emissions vehicles) and job#1 1999 my (federal emissions vehicles), the subject vent hose composition changed from nitrile rubber hoses with chloroprene rubber covers (nbr/cr) to fluoracbon rubber hoses which an outer layer blend of nbr/pvc.The changes wer made to improve hydracarbon resistance for complaince with new evaporative emissions regulations.The modified hoses are also significantly more resistant ot degradation and craciking. In a letter dated december 14, 2000, nissan notified nhtsa that it will conduct a safety recall campaign to replace the subject vent hose in affectd vehicles with the redesigned hose.Nissan will begin notifying owners of the affected vehicles on february 5, 2001.Nissan will finish its owner mailings on september 10, 2001.Owners will be notified in reverse order of vehicle age.

Transmission jumps out of gear in traffic, rpm go high then transmission engages.This could cause aaccident.

Tl* the contact owns a 1997 nissan quest. The contact was attempting to park when both frontal air bags deployed independently. The contact sustained unknown injuries by the air bags. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was not illuminated when air bags deployed. The manufacturer inspected the vehicle but had not provided the contact with a reason why the air bags deployed. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 105,000 and the current mileage was 108,000.

Door locks and unlocks by itself at random. Not all door locks will lock when the door lock button is pressed. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 1997 nissan quest caught on fire. The fire department extinguished the fire, but the vehicle was completely destroyed. A fire report was filed and the contact has pictures of the failure. Two days later, she received a recall notice for nhtsa campaign id number 00v419001 (fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly). The dealer stated that they did not store recall information exceeding the year 2000. The contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer. The failure and current mileages were 119,747. Tl*the contact owns a 1997 nissan quest. The contact smells gasoline in the passenger compartment when the vehicle is started. When the heat is activated, the odor intensifies. There is no visible leak. The dealer stated that the vin was not included in any recalls. The vehicle is more than ten years old. The current mileage was 121,000 and failure mileage was 118,000. The car locks spontaneously and constantly. It is a known defect (service bulletin 98068). We did not purchase the car while it was under warranty from the manufacturer, however since this is such a safety concern (my 2 year old nephew was locked in the car in his car seat over labor day weekend), i feel the manufacturer should pay to have it fixed. They are refusing. *nm

I dt: the consumer spoke to a dealer and asked them if some repair work was done for recall campaign 00v419001 on 1997 nissan quest. Consumer spoke with someone in tampa at courtesy nissan, who told her that the work was fixed, but could not provide anything in writing to prove it due to the previous owner's privacy. Another dealer in orlando, universal nissan , said that it did not appear to be fixed. The consumer called nissan about a month ago and asked them if they could check it, and they said they could send her something, but the consumer has not heard anything yet.*ak

I bought this nissan quest 1997 two years ago and i was told there is a faulty gas tank that can cause a fire. I contacted dealers in my area and was told the repair was done in one of the dealers but they never wanted to provided anything in writing that shows the repair. Courtesy nissan in tampa florida was terrible and didn't want to help, i contacted nissan at the 1800 number and this guy chris at extension 8443 told me i was going to receive a letter showing the repair but i waited two weeks and never received nothing, when i called him back he never responded to my calls and i spoke with tammy at extension 3879 and said what chris told me was a lie i am very tired of this company lying to me everytime i call ,i just wanted this people to be investigated, they have a terrible service at the 1800 number and i feel like me and my kids are traveling in a dangerous van, i won't recommend anybody to buy nissan quest or dealing with nissan courtesy at tampa or the 1800 nissan number, i wish somebody can investigate these people and do something about it, because i don't think is fair to buy a car with a dangerous recall and they don't even want to provide information if it was fixed or not or at least have it check. I won't buy a nissan ever in my life, terrible company.*jb

My 97 nissan quest gxe sliding door opens unexpedtedly while driving. Especially when running over bumps and pot holes.
